you really don't know how huge of a money maker fortnite is, do you (and various other products they maintain)?

Unreal Engine has been around a few decades, and powers many games like Pikmin 4, Yoshi's Crafted World, Street Fighter V, Hogwart's Legacy, Gears of War, Tetris Effect... hundreds of games. Their pricing making it somewhat favorable for indie developers... Royalty model of 5% over a million dollars in revenue, or free if published on the Epic Games Store. They'll very much be thriving in five years.

I suspect the UK and US are headed for similar regulations. The EU is not a serious state but a global regulator. Others will follow. Investigations are already underway in the UK and US into Apple and others.
We haven't cared about Europe since 1776.
 
The Epic Games Store is only available on iPhones running iOS 17.4 or later, while iPad users will have to wait until the release of iPadOS 18 to access the store on their devices. Epic says it plans to expand the availability of its store to other regions where regulations permit, with Japan slated for a 2025 launch.
Their website mentions iOS 17.6 is needed.
Sideloading for EU was added in iOS 17.4, but maybe there were some hidden changes to sideloading that Apple didn't mention in the 17.5 and 17.6 release notes.
Or maybe they simply decided to require the latest iOS version at the time for the epic store app, even if it's not actually needed.

Read your TOS.

You don't own the game. You own a license to play said game even though you have a physical disc. This isn't new. I'm sure your $5 PSP games you own/don't own keep you up at night

The Palm Pre came out in 2010 and largely answered the criticisms of iPhone OS at the time with a physical keyboard and proper multitasking. Palm could not compete with Apple at scale though and did not have the anything close to app parity.

Every great feature in iOS and Android from the last 10 years has been lifted from webOS. Palm had magnetic wireless charging in 2010!
 
Once I get an iPhone 16, I have no use for Lightning cables. You know where they go? The trash.
Why not pass them on to someone who needs them, donate them to a goodwill store or if you have a family member inheriting an old iPhone, give them to them.

It isn’t, at least in EU.
We’ve been over this: you own the hardware, but license the software. You don't get to do whatever you want, and you agreed to that the day you turned the phone on.
Good luck with that, but the world doesn't work that way.

Well it’s how it works in EU. Just because you have bad contract law and private property laws in USA doesn’t mean the rest of the world is as backwards.
Except you agreed to the TOS when you bought it, so no, you don't.
No TOS was presented before purchase = not legaly enforceable.

Making millions upon millions of cables useless and forcing people to buy all new USB-C ones! Just hope they charge your phone, since some can't. What a ****** standard.
And what do you think would have happened when iPhones stops having a port in the future? Or if Apple changes it with a softener lightning 2.0 cable that isn’t backwards compatible?

Even more lightning cables would be wasted…. Even tho you can’t give them away with your old phone on eBay.

To cite one example, wireless charging was invented by Nicholas Tesla. It has been around for a while. Palm did not invent wireless charging. Just like Eastman Kodak invented oled, not Samsung. Not saying innovation didn’t happen, but using some else’s invention…

Epic Games has announced that Rocket League Sideswipe is leaving the Play Store on August 23. This will happen globally, and it’s because the game is moving to the newly-launched Epic Games Store. This new store needs to be sideloaded and will be the only way to access Rocket League Sideswipe moving forward.
 
Wonder if Microsoft can use this to launch Game Pass on IOS so we can download games directly to our phone instead of Cloud Gaming.
 
Don’t like the terms? Don’t buy the phone. People act like babies wanting to have their cake and eat it too. Just buy a phone that meets your needs, don’t try to impose your ideas on others.

Competition breeds innovation.

Consumers might actually get a good AppStore, or a more diverse game range.

Especially when we have one store with strict rules regarding what a game can be about, and the other allow a more liberal approach to game design.

What are you talking about? Outside of mature content Apple isn't restricting anything in terms of gameplay or approach to game development on iOS.
