You're missing the point; I own the hardware. That's all the matters, end of story. Apple doesn't own it, I do. I didn't license the hardware, or rent it, or finance it, I bought it.

No company should be able to dictate what I do with my possessions. Not a single one.

Please, when you buy an iPhone, you agreed to the terms and services that come with it.

No, I own my iPhone, therefor I should be able do what I want. If Apple doesn't want to let me download others apps, they should provide a way to let me replace the OS.

It needs to be one or the other.
Well unless you’re in the eu or Japan in 2025 buy an android. your opinion is your opinion but it is what it is.
It doesn't matter why. I'm against closed platforms across the board. No exceptions.
Okay you have the wrong hardware then. You knew it when you bought it.

In the EU, which has had being attacking US tech companies for sometime.
This isn't about "attacking US tech companies", it's about fixing the abusive behavior of tech companies.

Apple has managed to Stockholm Syndrome lots of people into believing that the abuse is for their own good, which is even more disgusting.

Apple hasn't always been like this. My Apple II came with schematics and ROM code listings.

So don’t use american tech products. Unlike air, food and water you don’t expire if you buy an iPhone. Buy some European cell phone.

American tech companies are crooked as F, and need to be knocked down several pegs, across the board. Every single one of them. I absolutely loathe the tech industry and their rent-seeking practices. I can't stop using them, but I can push for our government to stand up to them.

Car companies used to do the same, but now rules (laws) exist to allow 3rd party repairs, diagnostics, modifications, upgrades, parts, without issue, and without voiding the warranty. Why is the tech industry so special that they should be exempt?

Ahh yes. Like forcing everyone to through away millions of perfectly working fine Lighting cables for USB-C ones! Thanks EU! More waste

Nobody is beating anybody with a stick. The point is the App Store is so heavily regulated anything apple does could be construed as anti-competitive.

What stagnation? That’s just an opinion. And there is no legal duopoly.

I thought apple wanted a complete change for iOS 7, which was the cause of a flatter UI.

Windows on an iPhone sounded good, but I’m not sure how many android or iOS users were ready to jump ship. But you place a lot of credence that windows phone was disruptive. Not really sure about that.

You place too much credence on the carcass of webos.

Right - let me uproot my digital existence, strain communication between me and my loved ones, and have to spend hundreds (if not thousands) on new hardware to prove a point. Fact of the matter is that I buy what works best for me, even if it means buying from a company I don't 100% agree with. Things in real life aren't as simple as single issues.

So what you're saying is that Windoze Phone is what ruined iOS?

Yeah, that tracks.

I just wish that now that abomination is gone Apple would make iOS pretty again. Skeuomorphism is nice, and iOS 6 was absolutely beautiful compared to 7's ugliness.
Windows Phone didn’t just popularise the idea of flat design: it invented it. There are a few things of iOS 6 I miss. I was always a fan of the way the background parted to reveal the folder contents and how it moved upwards slightly for the multitasking interface was really cool.

But Windows Phone 7 made iOS 6 and Android 4 look 5 years out of date. It was fast, gave the user instant info and made good use of typography. It was a lot better than that static grid.
