Funny that they require to go to a store to activate. How is TMobile messing this up so badly?

Right? Took me 2 hours with no service yesterday to get it squared away. None of the TMo staff in the store even knew about eSIM and tried telling me they could fix it by "opening a new line" and cancelling it.
Why haven't they just updated the eSIM app? Only the people that really care about eSIM are going to go through the hassle anyways.

Or they can move to Verizon where it's all done in the app, which is what I did months ago. It is really odd how TMO has handled the whole eSIM thing. It's so against the message of who they claim to be.

I switched to verizon eSim for work purposes and it worked 1st couple day then someone broke it for 2 days and no one could not fix it...in store or over the phone...

Only problem I have had with Verizon eSim, is I have both my personal phone # through Verizon (on eSim) and my work phone # which is also through Verizon on physical sim. Any Verizon app uses the physical sim as the primary sim for the apps purpose. Also Verizon swears that it won't support Total Mobile Protection on an eSim activated phone which is BS

I had a quick problem when I changed the eSIM # after transferring* but it was fixed in a couple of hours. I'm not sure what they did but I did expect some issues in general as it was when eSIM's first launched, but I've not had a single problem since. Not sure how long ago you tried but hopefully they've got some bugs worked out.
*I started a new line via the Verizon app using eSIM and it worked great. I wanted to try it out before putting my main line on it. When I transferred the TMobile number over, there was some kind of hiccup but it was fixed soon after.

What's the process to activate a new phone , replacement, for an phone that had an esim? With Verizon and they can't seem to figure it out. Basically have a new phone , old one gone and no phone service.

I'll get the new iPhone XS Max Pro or whatever they call it. I am using Verizon eSim and a physical SIM from Vodafone. Not traveling to UK until the end of the month. Do I have VZW send me a physical SIM today, get rid of the eSIM at least temporarily, then switch back to eSIM for VZW?
How would a simple backup/restore handle the eSIM?

The eSIM doesn't get backed up and cannot be backed up. Just get Verizon to generate a new one when you get your new phone. You can still can it and activate it from overseas as long as you have internet.
I may be missing something here but how about just leaving your eSim alone and just get a UK PAYG SIM card when in UK? I use a Spanish Vodafone eSim and GiffGaff (runs on UK O2 network) physical Sim. When I’m in the UK I buy a Goodybag for £6-7, it includes minutes, texts and data and is valid for 30 days. I think I’m still correct in saying the only UK network offering eSim so far is EE, and then only on contract not PAYG.
Did you turn on WiFi calling on both lines? The second line will connect using the first lines data. There is no support for dual sim active on the iPhone.
It is happening with or without wifi calling...and iOS 13 offers simultaneous calls...as far as I know dual sim active is supported.
Do you have VoLTE on both lines?

iOS 13 supports dual-sim active, but both lines need to have VoLTE and data activated. The second line uses the data of the first line on an active call to do VoLTE. Therefore it doesn't require two radios. It still qualifies as dual-SIM active. As a carriers move to VoLTE, all carriers will support this. Why have two radios if you can simply VoLTE on another line's data? More efficient.

That's *NOT* dual sim active. There is only one single radio in your phone. You're relying completely on carrier #1 to allow the VoLTE/IMS traffic for carrier #2. If carrier #2 blocks data to carrier #1 for whatever reason, this will not work.
This is Dual Sim Dual Standby with a workaround thanks to VoLTE.
I know what you mean, but because this feature is brand new and no official body has decided to differentiate the two, we can call it dual-SIM active. For example the GSMArena glossary says:
Dual-SIM Active (DSA) enables both cards to receive calls at the same time. This feature usually requires an additional transceiver for the secondary SIM card, and as such consumes more battery life. More recent models feature Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology which enables them to have two active SIMs with only one transceiver.
Emphasis on the word usually is mine.
Blocking of the IMS traffic might be a US problem: in countries like Canada, carriers do not have the right to block traffic (neutrality of net).
And like I said, this method of doing DSA will probably become the norm because no manufacturer wants to implement two radios in mainstream phones in 2019, with all the drawbacks like battery life.
By the way, you can always switch which carrier is carrying the data for the other carrier's VoLTE. So in terms of reliability it's not really an issue because you can user either data line.
I have a question on using Dual SIM. I have T-Mobile on eSIM and just added a local physical SIM in India due to the piss poor T-Mobile roaming here.
There are times when I want to call a number from my US line and times from my India line. For any given number in my contact list to call, there is an option to "always" use a particular originating call, but no option for "only for the next call"
Is there a way I can accomplish this?
