Seems cool.

I've never jailbroken before? Can someone briefly tell me what this new one is about/ What it does? And how exactly I use it? :)

Why doesnt apple just enable use of themes for ios? It doesnt make sense if I want to change my icons I have to jailbreak the darn thing. We pay good money for ios devices at least allow us to make our own themes.

this jailbreak is garbage. it goes like 50% of the way and then just freezes every time.
My first try froze as well. You HAVE to back up, restore to factory default, apply the jailbreak then restore from your original back up.

The reasoning has to do with the the way the OTA updates are applied, supposedly. I followed the steps I outlined above the second time and everything went without a hitch. If you still have an issue, restart your Mac/PC too then try reapplying the jailbreak.

Apple has never been about giving people choices. They just want your money.

I'm not able to actually install any apps. I get an error (red text) or it just installs forever and nothing happens.

Today is a bad day for Cydia. They have been overloaded with traffic. Give it some time. Maybe tomorrow or the next day, then try again. For now just keep it jailbroken and try periodically.

I'd call it using the data I paid for. I also pay for water in my sink. That doesn't mean I can't put that water in a bottle and take it to the park. The water company doesn't charge me more to e able to use the water in different places or different ways. Nor should att/whoever charge me again to use the data I already pay for in different ways, in different places, or on different devices.

I agree

it's like saying you can use that water for drinking but you can't use it to water your plants.

i thought the days of jailbreaking were over but since ATT will not unrestrict my grandfathered unlimited data plan I will be jailbreaking my iphone 5, never use much of the other apps, but I welcome PDANET free tethering again...

Im just gonna wait a few weeks before i jailbreak, ill let them get some tweaks and other things out for the i5.

That's correct. This is what a jailbreak is suppose to do and nothing more which is why every jailbreak release has done only this.

I know. I've been jailbreaking for years. It was a joke to the fact that Cydia has been down all day. Hence why I added the Cydia still down part.

Will it really void your warranty, even after a restore?

No it wont. If its restored its good as new

I will never understand why all these people complain for a free service that they had no obligation providing you.

Thanks evad3rs :)

"steal" tethering...

A bunch of tattle-tale Cindy Brady wannabes running around declaring to everyone, "you're in trouble, I'm telling mom, that's not the rule." Ignore them - they're merely the self-righteous declaring themselves superior for only crossing the street in the well-painted cross walks and only when the crossing guard tells them it's okay or the sign indicates it's permissible, regardless whether a car is coming or not. You know, the type that would forever stand at a corner because the sign said, "Don't Walk," even in a town with no cars or other people, because the sign said to do so, and would yell at anyone walking past them and crossing the street.

I gave up after it freezing 3 times.

Was only doing it on my old iphone4 to play around with it, but i'm done wasting my time. :/

right, because you know exactly how much I know about computers

If the software says to click "Jailbreak" and it should be done in 5 minutes, and 20 minutes later the app is frozen and needs to be forced quit, it's garbage.

All of my **** is up to date, there's no reason for it to be crashing other than poorly written software. Not surprising consider the nature of this thing to begin with.

yea, you should know to wait a few days to let the dust settle... especially if you want a trouble free experience.

Will it really void your warranty, even after a restore?

Technically yes it will. It would be unwise to listen to anyone who says otherwise. But if you restore the phone before taking it in to an Apple store, who's the wiser?

Anybody added lockinfo in their iphone5? That's the main reason I wanted to JB. I loved it on my 4s.

So you just like voiding your warranty (it does, even if you lie about it and tell Apple you never did), and violating your contract with AT&T (and basically laughing at all of the people who pay the legitimate tethering fee by stealing it yourself instead)?

I'd say just get some free apps and be cool with it! Sounds like you're ok with everything else (even if you rationalize it)....

:apple:

Oh jeez. Lol.

I have trouble booting my phone after the JB. JB works etc. but if I shutdown/repower up it gets stuck on the apple logo until I hard reset it and then it boots.

Actually now it won't boot at all. Great.

Although not many reasons for me to jailbreak, I know many who will be happy.

What jailbreak tweaks is everyone excited to try on their devices?

ACTIVATOR. The one and ONLY one I need! Now I don't need to fiddle with Apple's stupid "Touch Assist" feature which is annoyingly intrusive, just so I can keep the home button working nicely (the first thing to break on an iDevice).

I've never, ever had a home button break on me; and I've owned them since the original. What do you do to your phone, torture it?

It's easy to do if you follow the instructions with evasi0n. Jailbreaking gives your iDevice Cydia or something similar, an unofficial App Store run by a bunch of friendly hackers into which you can place repositories for downloading stuff (comes with some by default). It's pretty easy to figure out. You can download various things form there that are usually not approved by Apple such as game console emulators (like GameBoy Advance), Terminal, themes, and a bunch of random tweaks.

Warning: Be careful what you install. I've never run into any malware, but there's plenty of garbage there that doesn't intend to be harmful but will slow your device down or even open security vulnerabilities.

Mine is broken too, and I am very careful with it. I keep my phone in an iPod touch box when it's not in my pocket, and it has a case and a screen protector.

No, it doesn't void your warranty.

any good tethering apps???

i'm on iphone 5 on vz network.

first time i ever jailbroke... an iOS device...

I used MyWi back in the day. On normal iOS tethering my carrier would throttle the connection if it detected tethering, with MyWi I get full speed internet with tethering.
