FYI, an interesting quirk: in the hero pics, the size setting has changed to be a little tighter, allowing better visibility of what it looks like through the perforations..

Ordered a couple of bands to check out IRL (stores still closed round here). ETA is April 27-29. Right now I would expect the keeper rate to be approx. 50% but we‘ll see. Still bummed that the Amethyst is a no-show (and no Capri Solo Loop). I guess @athousandbands will be kinda glad that his light blue prototype band stays a rare collector‘s item lol.

A friend looked at Mallard Green and commented that it looks like the Forest Green Leather Loop in Sport Band form. Gotta admit it does.
Yeah I can definitely see that. I am curious to see what it looks like in real life. I also get Pacific Green vibes from the Apple render but that color turned out to be almost black in real life.

Speaking of similar colors, is it just me or is the Olive sport loop just Inverness with different outer colors? Similarly, Abyss looks to be just Deep Navy with different outer colors. But, on closer inspection, it looks like the blue in Abyss is a bit more saturated. Hard to tell from the Apple renders but that certainly how they look to my eyes.

I’m assuming it will be a sea salt sport band in summer. But yeah nice that for my trouble (it’s a little defective) I at least get my exclusivity window.

So will sunflower be a sport band or solo loop? And is the orange rail on Olive indicative of a summer band or just the Electric Orange Braided color in the way Plum sport loop had a pink punch rail?

And is olive going to be a sport band/solo loop?

The splintering of all the accessory colors is dizzying, but the lack of SKU quantity is a relief, for now.

One observation: unlike last year, all Winter bands and a good chunk of the Fall bands (except for the braided and leather lines) are now discontinued. Once again makes me think that the Fall/Winter 2019 bands sticking around all year was mainly due to Apple trying to clear out stock due to COVID. The recent fire sale prices on eBay also support this theory.
quick question who was selling the apple bands on ebay? Was there a particular store or was this general observation throughout eBay?

Currently rake-rock is selling a bunch of S5 bands at ~50% off retail. Though, several people have had problems with the seller shipping wrong bands or not all the bands they ordered. Others have had no problem. There have been a few other eBay sellers selling off S5 sport loops at around $18-$20 over the past few months. You can look at the Discounts thread in this forum for a complete history.

I feel like Amethyst and Pistachio sport bands are also possibilities. Depends on how big the release ends up being. Olive strikes me as too dull for a summer release and also too close to Cyprus Green.
I’m assuming they’ve dropped all the pistachios they’re gonna do. And after coastal gray and linen blue as “summer” colors, I don’t think olive is too crazy. Just the fact that olive appears in the Abyss, Sunflower, Olive, and Red4 sport loops seems to telegraph it’s the new kumquat/northern blue, in terms of winter/summer follow-on.

Yep could be. I agree that Sea Salt seems like a contender for the Summer neutral. Olive would only compound my disappointment with the Spring bands.

Ughhh, what a disappointment. My first round of band releases as a first time watch owner and I was so looking forward to them. Will comment on the band areas I’m most interested in:

Sport loops - Not as many as I was hoping for, the odd colours on the rails are ugly, hopefully this will be the last set like this.
Nike sport bands - Not bad but where are the oranges, red’s etc, always the same colours.
Nike Sport Loops - Nothing? Are you kidding me, I was looking forward to these the most. If they aren’t coming back then I can see my interest in straps starting to wane already.

Total amount Apple will get from me - £0. Let’s hope next release season is more interesting and they aren't all on the way out with a series 7 redesign.........

Guess I’ll head back to eBay and try and get some of the older bands to make up for the disappointment......celestial teal and flash sport loops will have to do.

I think this is the closest I came, from Nov 18th.

Based on new Nike items posted yesterday I was certain we were getting chlorine today. And green glow was worrying me too, as close as it is to recent Nike greens, bec Nike was using it on so many products. Couldn’t come up with novel ideas for them respectively, little did I know they would combine them in the first Nike band with unlike colors.

That one turned out to be pretty close!

To be fair, I’m not sure anyone would have predicted some of the wacko color combos Apple released today. These new sport loops (especially Sunflower, Olive, and Red G4) have to be up there as some of my least favorite bands Apple has ever made.

Yeah olive was the missing link in all my sport loop predictions. I littered sea salt throughout but never in a million years would have guessed olive after inverness.

Now that I’ve had a bit to digest, here are my thoughts on the Spring release.
  • Sport Band and Solo Loop: Odd that Apple has decided to diverge the color choices so significantly. Pistachio, Cantaloupe, and Capri strike me as the only “classic spring” colors this year. Tamales looks like Linen turned into a solo loop. I am most intrigued by Mallard. It has the potential to be a re-do of Pacific Green (which turned out to be more blue when it wasn’t busy being black). Will wait to see real-world pictures though.
  • Braided Solo Loop: Pistachio and Electric Orange seem like fine spring colors. Nothing grabbing me here though.
  • Sport Loops: Umm...I’m sorry but what happened here? I hope Sunflower looks less mustard-y in real life because that combo with the brownish gray edge is...not great. Also, too many colors this season are just Fall colors with different rail colors that don’t match as well. Olive (replaces Inverness) and Red G4 (replaces G3) are the worst offenders here. Apple has completely lost me with their Sport Loop choices over the past year. And no Nike loops remains the biggest (and most worrying) surprise today.
  • Nike Sport Bands: Honestly kind of surprised to see Chlorine given how muted Nike bands have gotten over the past few years. Sure to please anyone who missed out on Blue Orbit though! Hasta and Ironstone are right at home with most of the other Nike sport bands made since 2019. Maybe they’ll turn out to be more interesting in real life.
  • Leather: No new Modern Buckles or Leather loops supports the ongoing speculation that those lines are on their way out and will likely be discontinued in the fall. Only one new Leather Link is also interesting. Perhaps that line is not selling very well?
  • Hermes Woven Nylon: Not sure what is the bigger surprise here: that these bands were silently launched or that they cost almost as much as the Hermes leather. The colors and designs are interesting but I think Hermes may have priced these a bit too high in relation to the leather bands. I will also be interested to see if these wear any better than the Apple woven nylon bands from a few years ago. Those started to fray pretty quickly.
Overall: Pretty disappointed. Way too may wacky color combinations for my taste. Will wait to see how Mallard and Hasta look in real life. But I’m thinking this might be the first season where I’m not tempted to buy even one band. That’s probably best for my wallet though!

The product red sport loop was updated? It looks lighter (pinkish) compared to the last one which was more vibrant:

Left is pre-keynote right is post-keynote. Perhaps it is the lighting? But I believe cannot order the pre-keynote one anymore only instore if they have stock.

Yeah it was definitely updated. Good catch on the slight color difference in the red section. Hard to tell if it will be pink though (Apple’s renders are notoriously inaccurate). The old band was actually a little orange in real world lighting so I’m wondering if this new one might end up being more truly red.

I feel like Raja Bose in the iPad Pro demo was wearing it. I thought it was pomegranate at first but I didnt see the dual tone.

I'll have to watch it again on my TV tonight to double check. I could be wrong.
