Could be that this year they release it as the iPhone 6SE, then next year just revert to 'New iPhone'. The SE moniker could indicate the most refined Aluminium design, an almost end stop to that design.

If rumors of curved OLED screen and new case materials are to believed then it would kind of make sense.

I have a 6s and I just see why I would upgrade, at least not on day one. I scored my 6s 64gb for under $600 from a bestbuy deal in April. Yep a contract free unlocked 6s. I will probably wait for a similar deal on the 7.

I've stopped buying phones on contracts. I just buy them outright since the 4S days. And my contract price is so low for it being a sim only and also I have the freedom of selling the phone whenever I feel like.

Depends, some people like spreading the cost over a monthly contract and with O2 in the UK you can just give your phone back after 12 months and get the next model. I'm in 2 minds what to do, may buy outright, but if it's just a minor upgrade there won't be much demand when selling.

But over the period of a contract you end up paying more, and you can't switch devices if you wanted.

iPhones will always have demand. You won't be able to get one for a couple of weeks at least if you don't preorder.

No you don't, O2 splits the contract into "device plan" and "airtime plan", the "device plan" is just the value of the phone / 24 say and the "airtime plan" is just whichever calls/data plan you opt for. You can pay off the "device plan" whenever you want or on some plans just hand back after 12 months to get the next.

Really?! But then you still can't pick a different service provider if they give you a cheaper deal. That's my problem.

Been with them since the iPhone 3G and never had any complaints and always great customer service. I live in London and the signal is great here, not sure about other places though.

I used to be with them and yes I agree the signal is awesome. I'm in London too.

There seems to be a general "I already have the specs in my head" train of thought. Better processor, gpu, better camera, no headphone jack...not worth the upgrade. I'm thinking Apple has a few surprises and I hope I am right.

This is possible but they haven't been very good on keeping secrets lately.

it's curious how, especially in this forum, those who declare themselves as tech-experts are often the same who fall first for a redesign, as if that was the main feature to watch out for.
The main argument i see in favour of skipping the iP7 is the design similarity to the iP6.
that's honestly laughable.

You're kidding right... Design is a huge part of why people chose to get someone new. When you buy a car, do you not look for one that is aesthetically pleasing?

Should Apple choose to retain the next iPhone in the 6-series, I would enjoy them naming it the 6x

Will not happen. Sounds way too much like 6s. In fact, I don' think it will be named 6 anything because people thinking that Apple is still on the iPhone 6 going on three years now will not inspire sales.

Also true. Don't get me wrong I'm really into design myself and think the 6 series is rather ugly in comparison to past iPhones. I'm just due and upgrade so will be getting the next whatever.

I like the 6-series design. I think they're the sleekest looking iPhones we've seen thus far. But truth be told, the design is getting a bit stale after 2 years. I'm starting to really appreciate the designs of Android phones that have trimmed their top/bottom bezels and get larger displays into the same footprint as an iPhone. Just look at the Note 5 compared to the 6+/6s+.

*And how the heck did predictive text put in "bit" in place of "not" in my previous comment?!*
