Then you misunderstand your agreement. You always have the OPTION to trade in any device, but you're not REQUIRED to trade a device; especially not for a 2-year-contract agreement. You need to check what agreement you are currently on.

On an AT&T Next plan, there are 3 time periods you can choose from for making payments (18, 24, and 36 months). The longer your agreement, the less you have to pay, but the longer you have to wait to keep the device forever.

It gets tricky from here and this is why you really need to read the website, verify your existing agreement, and speak to a representative at an AT&T store.

Let's say you chose the 24-month AT&T Next plan. AT&T will tell you that at 18-months you can trade in your device for a new one. You can do that, but you lose the device you've been paying for. At 24-months you can keep the device forever and continue to use it or buy a new phone and still keep the one you just paid off. It works kind of like a rent-to-own service.

If you are on a 2-year contract, then you really should wait until that ends before making any decisions. If AT&T is telling you that on Sept 22 you have to trade in your device, then you're on a Next plan and you have to reached your milestone to be allowed to keep the device. Of course you don't HAVE to upgrade and can choose to finish out your payment plan so you can keep your device.

But I can't verify your account information on a forum and don't want access to your info to do it. The info is available online and store reps can view your account and answer your questions.

I hope I've clarified how most of this works, but again, I'm not a rep, so there's room for outdated or misunderstood information from my viewpoint.

Is true when I check the line I upgrade in September of last year if I want to upgrade that same line I have to pay 142 to make that line eligible again does that mean I have to trade in iPhone and it's on the 30 month installment I want to make that line eligible so my dad can upgrade to the 7 since my other line is eligible for me to upgrade

Hi
we are on the same upgrade time scale (Sept '14 iPhone 6 - 24 month plan)
I phoned EE UK and told then I didn't want to upgrade till June '17
They dropped the monthly cost from £48.00 to £18.00 - I can upgrade mid May '17 onwards.
just saying
cheers

I have to pay 115 to upgrade or use any other line available in the account but my dad also want the 7 he wants to trade in the 6s plus I have and his 6 so we can both get 4.7 inch iPhone 7
[doublepost=1469120882][/doublepost]People you know more than I do can I trade in the iPhone's before I order the iPhone 7 online

I'm on the fence for now. Currently have a 6S. I've recently gotten into quality headphones and picked up the Sennheiser M2 wireless. I'm planning on buying the HTC 10 in the next few days due to the allegedly awesome internal DAC and use of AptX codec for Bluetooth audio. Also want to go from MP3 to FLAC in my phone and use a micro SD card for music. Seems much easier to work with FLAC files on Android from my brief research. HTC 10 interests me FAR more than iPhone does. If Apple leapfrogs everyone and jumps to AptX HD support in the 7, which is highly unlikely, that will impress me. Otherwise I'm very bored with Apple.

I won't be skipping iPhone 7 since I promised myself back in 2010 that the 7 would be the next iPhone after 4. Of course, I expected iPhone 7 to be released in 2013 since I didn't think we would have s models back then. The iPhone 7 will be a nice update thanks to adding features Android users have experienced for years. But I will say I won't be blowing my load rushing to get one like some here. I don't get excited for phones anymore like Justin Wagoner camping out for an iPhone 4.

I average one or two new phones every year. The iPhone 7 will likely be my 4th new phone for this year though. I might still get a ZTE. To spice things up, I prefer buying phones from different brands. This year, Apple. Maybe next year, I might go Samsung, Huawei, or Oppo. Not all Androids are created equal. Each brand offer a distinct personality. With over 20-30 brands in the Philippines, it would be nice to try a different branded phone every year.

There are literally over a hundred phone manufacturers and brands in the world. Variety is the spice of life. Buying an iPhone every year with the same UI sounds boring. So iPhone 7 will likely be my last iPhone purchase of this decade until I might buy another one in six years (2022).

My Phone Brand History
1999 - Audiovox
2000 - Qualcomm
2001 - Nokia
2003 - Nokia
2004 - Sony Ericsson, Sanyo, Motorola
2006 - Motorola
2008 - Nokia, Apple
2010 - Apple
2011 - Palm, RIM, Google/HTC, Samsung
2012 - MyPhone, Cherry Mobile
2013 - HTC
2014 - Xiaomi
2015 - LG
2016 - Microsoft, MyPhone, Motorola, Apple
2017 - Nokia Android? Samsung? ZTE?
2018 - Huawei?
2019 - Oppo?
2020 - Sony?
2021 - Asus?
2022 - Back to Apple?

Just keep it varied. Spread the wealth. Expand your knowledge. The most powerful tool isn't the smartphone but the mind. People can steal your phone but never your knowledge.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how long I can make my 6+ last. My original iPhone still works.

This is my third iphone. The first one went out just before a year was up, the second just after a year.

I have mine now with the iphone upgrade program, will trade it in september 2017.

I just got the SE so I'm in no need of a new phone. However, I'm kind of waiting for the 2017 10 year anniversary iphone. If it's really incredible (I think it will be), I'll trade in my SE to upgrade.

So yeah, the answer is I guess I'll "skip" iPhone 7. Though not intentionally.;);)o_O

I'll be getting the iPhone 7 Plus, and sell my 6 Plus. I also think Apple will be working on their own version of wireless earphones, like the Bragidash and Samsung Gear Iconx. Probably to go along with the removal of the headphone jack, I don't think they will come included in the box, they will be an added accessory.

I'd be more excited for these, assuming they're actually a decent pair of headphones than I am about the new phone currently. I'd love to have some good workout buds. Just haven't found anything worth the money.

I'm guessing that Apple have been working on them for a while, it could even be one of the reasons they brought Beats? So I don't think they will be rushed out like the Samsung ones, which I think they only released because they got wind of what Apple were planning. I'm with you tho, I hope they are a decent pair, I will buy them if they are, the lack of a cord would be great when going running, or even just in general.

Idk about your Samsung assumptions. There are at least two Kickstarter (may have already launched) devices that are basically identical to Samsung's buds that I've heard about for going on over a year now.

The limiting factor is the battery life. Small battery driving decent sound. I've resolved myself to accepting 3 hours of Bluetooth playback. Anything more than that I can't justify the price of $2-300

Day one purchase for me. I don't care what others think and it does not influence my decision. 4.7 iPhone 7. Leaving the SE. Would welcome the second speaker with wireless earbuds.

I'm just going off of past history, I may be right or I may be wrong! It just seems that info was leaked about Apple doing a pair of wireless earbuds and then a few months later Samsung did it, it could just be a coincidence but I'm not so sure.
Battery life will be a big factor, but I think Apple wouldn't be removing the headphone jack without a reason and an alternative.

Are you upgrading from an earlier iPhone? Personally I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in September, I'm sure the I phone 7 will be a great upgrade for those of us on the iPhone 6 or below.

I had the 6s and went to the SE. But I realized the iPhone 6s 4.7 was the perfect size for me. So I'm headed back the 4.7 iPhone. I'm looking forward to it. To me, the September Key Note is like the Super Bowl for me. Can't wait!

Have you tried the plantronix ones? I use them for workout and they're solid.

Yea I'm the same, the September keynote is usually the best one, last years was great :D we got the iPhone 6s, Apple TV 4, and iPad Pro 12.9" not sure what else we will see this year, maybe iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 2 12." But that will depend if Apple want to release iPad's every year or not! OR maybe we could see the iPhone 7 and new MacBook Pro updates.

Personally, I do not know if I would jump and pre-order an iphone 7. Eventually, yes I will definitely have one.

I am no longer able to upgrade via at&t, so paying $750 is not something I want to do. If the leaks are correct, it looks very similar to the 6/6S and to be honest my current 6S is working phenomenally. It is unlocked, jailbroken and still in excellent condition.

I am holding tight for now, but I am very interested to see the upgrades in September.

Same here, it would probably be $1000 CAD here in Canada. For the iPhone 6 64G, that's what i paid. I hope the features are not worth the upgrade, so it gives me a reason to skip this year also :)

I hadn't. I tried yurbuds (felt they were bulky), jaybirds (didn't stay in my ears), and one other that I am forgetting about.

I do love the way yurbuds fit in my ears and they are my buds of choice (though chorded, the bluetooth I didn't like as mentioned above). Ultimately I think I just can't stand the cable behind my neck. Does planetronics make fully wireless buds?

I am intrigued by the sort of design Samsung and a few others have produced. These are almost like earplugs that also play audio. This, I think, is my ideal design, but the huge limiting factor is the battery life.

I have these ones. They're alright. About 3-4 hours battery life.

My upgrade isn't until May 2017 so who knows what I'll get, been tempted by the Samsung Galaxy S7 this year so maybe I'll end up with the S8.

Yeah, I'll definitely still be watching the event to see what they come up with. Whether groundbreaking or not, they often still throw in the odd surprise that we haven't heard in any of the rumors. It's true though that for many of us, like myself, who already have at least one fully working iPhone that will probably serve us for many years (I currently still use three of them, and even my older ones are still in the house and have been given to other family members, so as not to waste perfectly good iPhones). So if I were to be sensible, there really isn't alot of point upgrading until either one gets lost/damaged/worn out/etc, or a really "must have" new feature comes out that makes us want to buy the latest one anyway. (I certainly did that when the iPhone 5S came out, simply for Touch ID, and am glad to have done it. -Going back to having to type my password in every time I unlock the screen would really seriously annoy me now).

The rumors for the iPhone 7 though don't have that "must have" feature though for me, so it does look incredibly likely that I'll skip this one. (possibly for my own good) lol. But you never know. -I didn't think I'd bother with the 6S Plus either, but ended up getting one much later on, so stranger things have happened. However, it has to be said that my 5S is still in great shape, and even though I own newer models, it is still hands down the device I prefer to use as my main device, as it does everything that even the newer models do, exceptionally well, and is much more convenient to carry when I go out, so my 6S Plus tends to stay at home and be used more for watching YouTube and Netflix in bed. So perhaps the iPhone 7 not seeming that special is a blessing in disguise, as if it had a new feature that I really couldn't live with out, I'd probably be overspending on iPhones, and have way more than I'd know what to do with. Would be a pity to waste such good machines, and by the time they do finally expire, new features worth having will undoubtedly have come out by then. So perhaps this year's model was just the kicker I needed to begin a new attitude of pragmatism and sensibility. ;)
