$5k++ AUD for a decked out MBP? That is stupid! I can get a far, FAR more powerful desktop for less than half that, plus buy a HTC vive, plus have enough left over to get a similar spec laptop to the 2015 MBP model and hackintosh it. You know what I might just do that. No fancy bar is worth $1-2k markup.

We should have seen this coming when they dropped Xservers. I wish Tim Cook will bugger off somewhere else. He is killing the mac (on purpose) because iPhone is his baby.

I really REALLY dont want to use windows again. It is horrible in every way, but I am seeing little choice.

I REALLY dislike people who liken Windows 10 with something they used 10 years ago. How about having an open mind about Windows 10, which by all accounts is a very good OS, and maybe the transition won't be so hard. You're painting a negative picture when it doesn't deserve one.

Where is that "magsafe for USB C" that a lot of people promised was coming? I can't see!

It's crap and near universally derided as so. They had to force installs of it and use misleading dialogs to fool people into getting something they didn't want.

So is it official that the Apple Display line is EOL? I watched the Keynote, but didn't see a mention of the LG displays. Are the LG displays filler until the next Apple Display comes out or are they the replacement?
Besides the fact that they did mention it in the Keynote (5K display we've developed with LG), this is a very good question. Based on their wording, it seems that it is the latter.

....
Where is the old Apple I love with its simplicity and coherence between hardware? Why is it so hard to like Apple nowadays?

Because everything they do is for their own benefit and not the consumers', the degree to which is increasingly difficult to ignore and accept.

well, geez, if they're going to get rid of literally EVERY SINGLE USEFUL PORT (other than audio), the least they could do is offer high quality options for all of the necessary adapters...

I don't like this whole idea or maybe it has always been like that but for "hey, look at me I have a better MacBook with touch bar than you" it has gotten pretty crazy.

Although it's nice of them to have cheaper version with no touch bar but it has become so common with apple that you pay more for new features and there's no more "the same". I'm sure people rather pay more for a touch bar pro than a regular.

If I had stock in Apple I would burn it right now LOL.
I really wanted a new macbook pro too but I am not buying outdated tech at those prices.

While I'm at it, I might as well also complain about the fact that I trip on my own magsafe cord literally every day, so losing magsafe is a huge downer.

Of course, I'm not at all surprised by these changes. I'm only (pleasantly) surprised that they actually kept the audio port.

Since I simultaneously can't see buying a non-upgradable computer that isn't completely spec'ed out, and can't see spending $4299 on a laptop with such severe compromises, I guess I'll be holding onto this 3yo model for quite some time longer.

There is a great article "Why Tim Cook is Steve Balmer" that makes what is going on at Apple a lot clearer....

Personally, I will buy a low-end version of the 15", but the 16GB of ram is a travesty. I would have maxed out all the options, but it makes no sense when RAM will be what obsoletes it. I struggle, at times, with 32GB on my 5K iMac. If they made a 15" without the touch bar, I would buy that instead.

I think they've decided on "High-Priced" adapters instead.

You can't expect a $3K Laptop to run without adapters, can you?

Add one more to the underwhelmed crowd. No headphone jack? I upgraded from the 6 to the 6s. No magsafe, no way to charge my iPhone using ports on my MacBook pro, I'm upgrading to the last version that had those features. (last years rMBP?) The best thing is those product prices are probably going to drop on the used market, so I'll save some money and have the last good things that Apple has made. I just can't believe 2016. Horrible choices for President, horrible choices for phones... What else is 2016 going to do to disappoint me??

Tim,

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

You have lost your hunger.

Foolish, that's another story.

Does Apple need new blood to regain their hunger?

I really can't believe they only revealed 1 1/2 new computers today.
No love for the iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro......yikes.

Apple, the iOS company.

Would be a lot easier if new iPhones and iPads already uses USB-C. It connects to Macbook immediately. Same cable tips and all, oh so simple.

It takes courage to piss on the fans you have left...

Looking at M$ - a software company: it released two refreshed products and a brand new really interesting desktop
Looking at :apple: - a software and hardware company: it released one new-but-less-functional (in some regards) product out of SIX different product lines: Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Macbook, Mac Pro, iMac, Mac Mini

The :apple: has rotten.

I had an epiphany, the reason why Apple doesn't make sense to me anymore under Tim Cook is not because they loss their focus or run out of ideas or innovation or because they are now driven by pie charts and number as I thought. They are thinking about the future, their next user base, their next fan base, a set of people who will become their next source of income, they are just replacing their user base for a new one, and I´m no longer part of that group, excluded, adios. While I don´t understand the importance of emojis and watch band in keynotes, a lot of people live by emojis and bands, Apple remove elements now so they can be reintroduced in the future, imagine what a MagSafe will mean in 5 years if you didn't´t even now it was removed today.

I'm 36 and I´m a developer, I was thought to focus on what is in front of my when using a computer, the screen, to learn to type in a keyboard with out being distracted my moving my head/eyes up and down to find the keys, the first thing I thought when I saw that touch bar was... if I want to use that then I will have to constantly look up and down while working, and then it hit me, all this Tim Cook's products are meant for a new user base, the ones that will keep Apple running, they have no problem at having two outputs methods that work together located in different places, Emojis are a very important way to express themselves, not having a headphone jack is better because they are starting to buy things and don´t have to worry about previous headphones or devices, wearing a device that doesn't connect you to your digital world is ridiculous, hence the Apple Watch, you can do all your 7 min youtube videos in one of these computers, that is pretty much pro, "thin" is beautiful and expensive, for me watching TV was no problem since I was a kid, Netflix like companies don´t add any complexity, however I just don't understand Apple strategy with their hobby product (ATV), first it was about the apps, ok, then games, ok, now is this new "TV" app the one that all people should only use?, I just don´t get it, because it is not for me anymore.

I won´t lie, I enjoyed my time using Apple products, just 8 years:

When I saw the aluminum iMac running Leopard for the very first time I spend a lot of hours just looking youtube videos learning about OS X, then I found these keynotes with this guy, Steve Jobs. They had my at "Stacks".
Then the 27" iMac was splendid, how to forget "I´m a Mac and I´m a PC", that MacBook Air inside the envelope was genius and well staged (There is something in the air), that striking iPhone announcement (today we reinvent the phone), that iPhone 4 which many people still consider the most beautiful and elegant design (Stop me if you already have seen this, believe you haven´t see it), that truly magical and revolutionary device that was better at key tasks, better than a laptop and better than a phone (Last time there was this much excitement about a tablet, it had some commandments written on it). There was a correlation between a product and those words they used, they had a meaning.

Anyway, it was a good time for me, thanks Apple.

Hi MS, looking good ;)
....

I'm so glad I bought the top spec in 2014, I have no need to upgade to this. $3500 for the same options I ticked 2 years ago.... I think not. My company can easily afford this but hell no!

Does it still have DLL hell? Does it still have a registry? Does it still have every second port open? Is the built in firewall still useless, or worse a hinderance? Does it still have a million and one active Viruses, malware and spyware? Is it still built on layer, after layer, after layer of legacy obsolescence dating as far back as the early 90's? Is its system/administrator permissions still back the front? Do I have to reinstall the OS twice a year because it slows to a halt? Do I still have to set aside a little time each week to keep drivers up to date, virus definitions, gigabytes of windows updates that take over your whole computer while doing it. Is it still all those things? Yes, Yes I think it still is.

Under the hood its junk, its only saving grace is DirectX. Unless Microsoft pulls what apple did 16 years ago and start again from scratch I am not interested.

hm another no news from apple, after 22 years of Apple I'm just about to switch to a PC and give Windows 10 a go

I like to see a four minute video of everything they didn't mention.

- We didn't present any iPhone 7 sales figures
- We didn't present any Apple Watch 2 sales figures
- We didn't present
- We didn't comment about the Airpods not being available in October.
- We still have bezels
- We have removed the SD reader
- We have raised the price
- We have removed the MagSafe
etc.

Compare yesterday's presentation with how the Mac Air was presented.

Where is the excitement? Where is the revolution? Where is the joy and playfulness

Most of your points are exaggerated, ridiculous and not worthy of a response. The one that I will address is viruses. Windows doesn't "have" viruses. They don't come with the product. People make bad choices and/or are too dumb to make safe choices. Don't blame the OS for peoples mistakes. I've been using Windows since it came out and haven't had a virus yet (and I don't even use anti-virus software!)

You keep thinking all those things, though, if it makes you feel better about what Apple is doing to its brand and its customers.
