Here in Australia the prices in the Mac Store are expensive. Base level 15" touchbar model with 256SSD is $3599. For the 2.7i7 512GB model it's $4249. That's really getting up there and would be out of the price range that many could afford. Base level 13" touchbar model is $2699. For students that's a pretty big ask.

If they could have squeezed a quad core i7 into the 13" I think it would be the perfect machine for me and I'd sell my existing 12"MB and 15"MBP to buy the 13". But alas.

Otherwise I like the design. But the decision not to go with USBC on the iPhone now looks even crazier. Can't connect an iPhone to a MBP and can't share headphones between the two...

So, just to clarify, Apple did a huge price spike, but also:

1. Didn't get kaby lake in for this release (which I really wanted for vp9/hevc decoding), and
2. No optane memory? (unclear what the new SSD is).

Not a fan of the small macbook keyboard - if it feels anything like that it may be a big dealbreaker for me.

The new screen and touchpad look nice, but the loss of magsafe is huge to me. Only 2 ports? I guess that means if you want to use a mouse + monitor + power charger, you have to get a USB-C hub? Quite odd - 3 ports seems like the bare minimum to me for that reason alone.

This is one of the most disappointing macbook releases I've seen in a while, especially given the time to release and price bump.

Remember most USB-C monitors you can plug keyboard and mouse into and it charges the laptop as well with one cable. BUT.... ALL of my usb devices would be obsolete if i ended up dropping change like that for a laptop. That and the price are my deal breakers. looks like ill have to wait and see what the refurb prices are...

My personal summary - pro/desktop users received (another) spit in our faces.

I'm switching back to real computers. It was an expensive 10 year experiment.

Apple is banking on the fact that like you, many will switch to Windows if they just keep neglecting the Mac line. That way, they can get out of the desktop OS business and concentrate on phones and fashion accessories.

Lots of duplicate threads, but even the most hardcore Apple fan has to admit: gulp, this was frightening and somewhat embarrassing!
Trying to stay objective, but some of what they did away with is really upsetting and maybe it's the way I work, but it is no skin off my teeth to press keys.

They are systematically driving us Apple users away changing things which don't need improvement.

The price is a double killer.

Since I am not Mr. Upgrade immediately and at all costs, I hope they have it right by 2018 when I'll look at MBPs again.

For many people I assume : "Hello again" will quickly turn into "Goodbye, see you later!"

They axed the lighted apple logo ;(
And still using the old ancient 3,5mm headphone socket
No more sd card slot to upgrade your internal storage...
Old ddr3 ram
Bad gfx cards
Outdated cpu gen.
And so on and on....

Couldn't they create a mac / ipad hybrid with macos and ios?

I also waited for the "one more thing". Didn't came...
the apple reminder was set for a 2h event. They finished early like they left something out ?

something doesn't seem right with the prices. I bought an iMac last year £1679 and that same config is now £2039?? iMacs haven't been updated.

It could be a lot to do with the struggling pound, but this is yet another retrograde step from Apple. The minimum SSD in the existing 15' is 512gb. As this technology gets cheaper, they charge more! I'm gobsmacked!

I was really looking forward to the new MBP and I'm happy with the improvements introduced - but it's the price point I can't get over. $1799 for an entry level macbook with the touch bar and such a small SSD? I'm going to pass on upgrading. I'm willing to pay a premium for Apple quality but this is a little ridiculous.

Was thinking that the touch bar will be useless if you close the laptop and hook to larger monitors with a real keyboard and mouse!
It would make much more sense to add such capabilities on phone or ipad.
