That would be my assumption too, except that the mini was already oversized. I am sure the Ultra produces more heat, but is it really generating so much heat that it not only used up the existing space it also needed more? The announcement made it look like the extra space was used for cooling - fans, air flow, etc.
20 sec version
Apple TV+ - zzzzzzz
Green iPhones - meh
M1 iPad - hmmm
M1 Ultra - now we're talking
Mac Studio - Yep, exactly what I needed
Mac Studio price - hmmm maybe not
Studio Display - really want it, but damn $1600 clams
No doubt that the Studio Computer and Display will both be low sales volume products.Boring! Not that I don't like the Mac Studio and Studio Display, but they are far too expensive for me to consider. I was hoping for new entry-level MacBooks because I've been thinking about upgrading, but it didn't happen.
Definitely not something for the masses to run out and get in this current state of inflation. No doubt that the Studio Computer and Display will both be low sales volume products.
That’s sadly none of what I wanted. The Mac Studio is too expensive for me. All I wanted was the M1 Mac Mini with 32 GB of RAM. I guess I’ll stay with my 2010 Mac Pro for now.

I am curious about the airflow. It sure seems like it has active airflow to pull air up and in and then uses the pressure to push it out the back. If that's true, and you mounted it with the cables down it might suck hot air back in. If you mount it with the cables up it might fill with dust. My guess is that it would work pointed left or right.Since the left Mac Mini Intel in the store, I would still have great expectations for perhaps a silent update or press release update for something like that.
All I wanted was MAX MAXED Mini and I fully expected to pay a logical price (based on 14" MBpro pricing) of about $5K for it. Instead, they show Studio with that config instead. I had a pretty solid plan for that Mini including wanting to wall mount it but I'll adjust the plan for Studio: I wonder if it will be wall mountable?
Well, I can name the creators who won't have to pay for one on one hand. How many YouTubers are gonna drop $10K+ on these only to process their 15min run time videos 1min quicker. Apple straight up milking these “creators.”

I think that's a good call. Save the ~ $2K difference, and apply it to an upgrade to whatever the entry Studio is in ~2025 (M3 Max?).I'm willing to pony up for the Max studio, but the Ultra is beyond me.
I think Apple made it pretty clear that there will not be a 27" iMac. It was replaced today with the Mac Studio & display.I assume that we'll get a Mac Pro and 27" iMac around WWDC (if they want to follow the 2 year release roadmap) and that will complete the transition.
So those with enough money will probably buy another one 😉Studio Display: Finally, how the eff did this take so long? Instant buy.
Mac Studio: Insane, I'm blown away 😳
Green iPhone: Why do they release the coolest color now, after everybody has already bought it months ago 😑
I am so curious to see what is taking up so much space in the Studio that they need to add a second story.
