Well this event definitely gave a ‘peek’ into the future of many Apple products:

1. Starlight is officially the new lower end device colour rather than silver.

2. Centre stage is coming to future macs.

3. There is likely no iMac Pro coming soon or larger iMac for that matter.

4. We are not getting anything M2 until October at earliest.

5. The 11” iPad Pro is definitely getting miniLED, if they bother refreshing it going forward.

6. The Mac Pro is likely coming at WWDC.

A side note, they all pronounced it "siliken", not "silicone" — "cone" seems more natural to me. Never noticed it at the last event, or knew it was a thing. Must be a directive from marketing, don't say "cone".
Lots of people get em mixed up. But two different words.

Silicon for computers is used as a semiconductor in solid-state devices in the computer and microelectronics industries.

Silicone, also called polysiloxane, any of a diverse class of fluids, resins, or elastomers based on polymerized siloxanes, substances whose molecules consist of chains made of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms.

Hope that helps.

That Mac Studio in impressive! I just it just the place thigh the new Display and Mac Studio with max ram should last someone at least 5 years!
If you buy the maxed out version it works out to $2200 a year based on your 5 year life span before death

I just wish they would dispense with the endless stream of superlatives during these presentations.... as opposed to feeling like you're drowning in marketing BS.

Is that just me? Is it a cultural difference between Australians and Americans perhaps?? Tell me, my fellow MR members from other countries… do you find the non-stop superlatives cringe-worthy too, or do you not notice it so much?
Maybe cultural and/or personal preference. It's just the way they do it for sure! My wife has always cringed at Apple presentations. At least at this event there were some genuinely new and relatively awesome things. The nadir of Apple events for me was a few years back, I think with the iPhone 7 or 8, when you could basically swap out the numerical difference of the phone and you'd have the same presentation as the previous year, with all the overbearing hyperbole and superlatives. It was so predictable and bad. The products were still good overall but had all the "amazing magicalness" of a different shade of grey,.

The Mac Studio totally stole the show—great release and just what creatives have been asking from Apple for… gosh, 20 years or so? :D

I just wish they would dispense with the endless stream of superlatives during these presentations. Yes, these machines are 'phenomenal', 'amazing', 'like we've never seen before', etc, etc. I get it. But the more you use those words Apple, the more meaningless they become. My theory is that it's better to let viewers speak out those things for themselves. I found myself saying, 'that's impressive' during the Studio's unveiling, and when you say it yourself, you believe it—as opposed to feeling like you're drowning in marketing BS.

Is that just me? Is it a cultural difference between Australians and Americans perhaps?? Tell me, my fellow MR members from other countries… do you find the non-stop superlatives cringe-worthy too, or do you not notice it so much?
And other BS like “computational photography”…. really? Is that an actual thing, or just an Applefied term for a slightly better camera? Are there “computational cameras” in the real world?

The Mac Pro combined with the Nano glass big screen monitor intrigued me. I'm not one to jump on the newest tech offering unless it really moves me, but this time I went ahead and preordered both. I am associated (paid) with John Hopkins Univ, so I was able to get a few bucks knocked off with the educational discount. A dollar saved is a dollar earned as my parents used to say.

Well we don’t say “siliken” valley. Maybe I’m wrong on Cone, but I think it should Con.

Ken sounds almost like “silken”

1- when they announced the new iPad Air in Starlight and Midnight, that’s what I thought too. Not a fan of it, I’m all for color options, but there should be real neutrals too imo. When I upgrade my Apple Watch eventually, I’d rather a space grey than one of those new colors.

3- a larger iMac could still be in the cards, but it’d be the same as the 24” but with a larger screen. Wonder if they could/should slap a Pro or Max in the iMac too

The way I see it, making more sense would be something like:

Entry-level:
M1 MacBook (Air or vanilla MacBook)
M1 Mac Mini
M1 iMac

Mid-tier:
M1 Pro MacBook Pro
M1 Pro Mac Mini
M1 Pro iMac

M1 Max MacBook Pro
M1 Max Mac Studio
(M1 Max iMac)

Higher-tier:
M1 Ultra Mac Studio
(M1 Ultra Mac Pro)

Highest-tier:
M1 Extreme (?) Mac Pro
(Though from the presentation it sounded like Ultra was the last new chip… so we’ll see what that means for the upcoming Pro’s chip)

We’re still in the midst of the transition and the lineup is a bit messy for me… also I think the naming is awful. Put the words "Pro", "Max" and "Ultra" in front of someone not in the know, and there’s an argument to be made for any of those being the top-of-the-line.

So does this mean the 27 inch iMac refresh is shelved? Product line now looks like iMac (entry consumer) Mac Studio (prosumer) and iMac/Mac Pro (top tier)?

I want to be positive about this but I can tell you that Apple has not developed any innovation in their product design they have continued to use the same old product design they've been using since the 90s since the launch of the apple cube and although the insides of changed not much else splitting these products into two things may give some people some flexibility but if you want a larger screen iMac I guess you're out of luck I guess I'll just have to use my 27 inch iMac until it catches fire. Apple you are so disappointing.
How would you suggest they innovate more in terms of form and function of their computers and other products?

Yes, computational photography is a real, well understood term in the real world not just Apple's world.

I'm willing to pony up for the Max studio, but the Ultra is beyond me.

If I had a use for the Studio Display, I'd think it was a good value. I just don't personally have a workspace where it makes sense.

One thing that has gone unspoken that I find interesting is that the high end iMac seems like it's being chucked out in favor of the combination of the Studio and Studio Display. So no more high end Pro all-in-one desktop.
This is what I'm wondering - where does a more powerful iMac fit in? If it does.
I have a 2020 topped out iMac. It's great, but I'd love more power. Not enough for a Mac Pro, but these studio macs look pretty sweet.
Very, very tempting.

I am so curious to see what is taking up so much space in the Studio that they need to add a second story.

Also, does anyone know if macOS is smart enough yet to disable monitors set to different input?
Cooling system. Look at the size of the back grille. Rewatch and notice the animated air flow graphics.

ken/kin or kon ?
cone?

But it's one of those things where if enough people say it a certain way, it'll become normal usage.

Another money grab by Apple. Really? No mouse and keyboard with a $4K computer? $300 for a mouse and keyboard GTFO Apple.

Question: Are people abandoning Windows PC's for M1 Macs?

They could have condensed this video into 30 minutes. Other than the new mac and monitor, everything else could have been quick mentions or relegated to press releases.
