I hope these all bomb like the 14 Plus right now or even worse. Nothing but a cash grab and very poor design decisions. They made it very simple for me to hold onto my current 12.9” M1 and 4KTV 2nd gen box.

I bought the 14 Plus and I'm very happy with the phone. Of course I wanted it more for the IOS and I didn't need the latest and greatest so it was more saving money, but I am a little surprised the 14+ has not sold well.

The cheap iPad looks like a cute little product and has USB C, which is nice.
The Pro gets the M2. A product in that category can't get a full redesign every year, just like Macs don't get one. They're not iPhones, they sell much less. That's how it works, get over it. It's nice that they bothered to keep it as powerful as newer consumer Macs.
The Apple TV is a niche product that rarely gets updates.
It was a minor almost-event, they've announced exactly what we were expecting and it all makes sense. If you were expecting something else... you're not learning a lot a lot about Apple from this site.

I’ve never been happier with my current iPad than I am after seeing the prices and configuration options of the ones released today.

Want an iPad with a landscape-rail camera and 128GB of storage? Too bad, best I can do is one with 256GB of storage and no laminated display for $599.

Want an iPad Pro with a landscape-rail camera? Sorry, that doesn’t exist at any price.

Try again in 2023 Apple! I’m keeping my iPad another year, with pleasure. 😁

Everyone knew what to expect and has laid out their gripes pretty clearly. "Upgrading" a $329 iPad to a $449 iPad is ridiculous enough, but with the weird adapter pencil thing, it's just outrageous.

The new iPad is a bad offer. It's WAY too expensive, on top of not being good enough.

The first iPad was $500 when it came out. I thought we'd moved on long from those days, at LEAST with the cheapest model you would think they'd not go over 399 at most. Nobody is going to buy this and it sucks. It's not that we don't understand.

Very surprised to see an M2 iPad Pro update before the Macbook Pro or iMac. It doesn't make sense to me to have your flagship notebooks running an older chip than a tablet.

They won't bomb. John Q. Consumer will go to the Apple Store and say, "can I get the latest iPad?", and the sales person will say, "sure can!" That's how real life works.

Maybe you need to revisit history when it took 11 months for the M1 to make it into the flagship MacBook Pro laptops.

Wow, this is the first time in over a decade I didn't even know a Keynote was happening because I just haven't been following/caring as much lately. Probably not the worst thing in the long run.

I was only interested in replacing my 4th Gen Apple TV (HD) and Apple definitely delivered with the new, lower priced A15 Apple TV. I wasn’t interested in getting an iPad, but despite how ridiculously priced it is, I might be tempted to get a blue one with a $50-75 Black Friday discount. Probably won’t happen, but if it does…

It’s now pretty obvious that Amazon was made aware of the AppleTV pricing and the discontinuation of the HD when they “discounted” the old models last week.

Everyone should return those Apple TVs in protest.

The you add the landscape on a base iPad -> and you don't do the same on iPad Pro which is the most used in that orientation.
Then there’s no place to add the magnetic charging stripe, or require significant engineering, or simply abandon base iPad line altogether.
it is. And they totally killed me with that Lightning-to-USB-C adapter needed to charge the 1st gen Pencil, it's just comical.
It’s comical in the surface, but apple doesn’t want to use iPad Air mould for 10th gen iPad, which comes with magnetic Chargoing stripe.
I get the feeling there is a real wholesale change about to happening as to what is the future of apple desktop machines and it doesn't look like its macOS somehow..
That’s more worrying Than I thought. If apple really want to turn macOS into a glorified iPadOS, then the addition of stage manager suddenly makes sense. Over time they remove terminals, remove power user features, disable apps that are not downloaded inside App Store, restrict disk access… Omg.
What is the big fail with the 10th gen iPad, except for the obviously dumb Apple Pencil 1 charging issue?
The position of that product plus the price point. Does apple somehow believe people would buy a DEDICATED video call machine just for that landscape camera?
Also that apple pencil charging Issue is because apple doesn’t want to support Apple Pencil 2 on lower end iPad, thus not including magnetic charging stripe. So they have the room for landscape camera.

Not quite as insulting as “you no longer have to deal with a SIM card!” but in the same spirit.

No Ethernet port on the 32GB Apple TV. No Find My in the remote. No headphone jack on iPad. Also Apple Pencil 1st gen is still around to confuse things. 6E on the iPad Pro which doesn’t make sense at this point. CPU being the only real upgrade on the iPad Pro whose least problem is CPU.

I think that about covers it. At least they didn’t give us a patronizing presentation about it this time.
No headphone jack is ridiculous. Lots of kids use iPads and don’t have expensive wireless headphones (they will lose them or forget to charge them).

My 1/2 deaf son has special single ear stereo ear buds that plug into the headphone jack. They are inexpensive so he has a few of them.

Yeah people in education are gonna hate this. If they really wanted to make the iPad the universal replacement for paper and everything else, it’s a short sighted move. Now it’s gonna be loudspeakers or nothing, because nobody is going to keep up with the dongle or manage bluetooth sets.

Yeah no ****, that’s what everyone wanted to hear from Apple today. “You no longer have to deal with a headphone jack! Now you get to deal with an adapter! And as a bonus you no longer have to deal with using headphones and charging at the same time!!”

And after my rage induced hot take I now realize you agree with me.

I’m super glad I got the last iPad Air with headphone jack. Headphones are still a real thing with iPads, and I now realize that particular model was one of the good ones. As opposed to essentially everything released this year, which will soon be referred to as ”the bad ones.”

Two things that are bothering me: iPad not supporting Pencil 2 and iPad Pro getting M2 before the remaining Macs (mini, iMac, MacBook Pro).

Well, Apple. I’ve tried to back the majority of your decisions for a long time. But You, Tim and the Gang fell flat on this line of releases.

I’m sure something will ‘accidentally’ scratch my iPP 2nd Gen forcing me to get a nice refurb right before my AC+ is up next year. I’ll be stretching its life as long as I can.

Been wanting to replace my 2015 mini for about a year now and was really hoping for an M2 mini announcement but Maybe Apple is thinking that an M2 mini could cannibalize mac studio sales, especially as options are added. October isn't over but my hopes have been kind of dashed. The price on the TV looks decent but I have the previous model so don't "need" that. I'm not a pad user so those releases don't mean much to me.

Agreed. It's frustrating that a bumped Mini wasn't included today. I'm looking to replace my 2014 model. The Mini is such a great machine and Apple has a sad history of neglecting it. I hope this isn't a sign of more of that. Hopefully it's coming later this month or in Nov. Who knows?

The $129 Apple TV was about the only thing that I found positive. The rest was underwhelming, the new 10th gen iPad is nice but fits in a weird spot with a price point that makes little sense. I am sure that iJustine will be showing off all the colors shortly and praising it for being awesome on YouTube pretty soon.
I'm underwhelmed myself.
My "old" iPad Pro from 3 years ago still holds up compared to these new iPads. In the old days I gladly upgraded every year despite having less financial leeway. There's just not much to get excited about anymore and that's the problem. I've been an Apple fan since before the PowerPC days. I want to be excited but Apple's just not getting it up anymore.
It's like Apple's living off the dividends of past innovation and demands loyalty merely for not being Google or Microsoft.

Apple needs some innovation viagra.

The iPad 10th Gen is a frustrating device. It’s obviously limited to keep it cheaper but I don’t understand the design revamp if you’re keeping the Apple Pencil 1?! Why not just put USBC into the old design and call it a day?

Here’s the question:
When the iPad Air is updated in the winter/spring how much of an upgrade will it get? I’m expecting it to get the new camera position (and probably moving pencil charging to the top?) and a design refresh on the pros next year.

Also…
What’s happened to the iPad line? At one point it seemed the darling of Apple. Yet since the introduction of apple silicon and the breath of fresh air breathed into the Mac line the iPad and iPadOS has just stagnated.
