Anybody notice that in the Mission Impossible video the AirPods supported Hey Siri and were waterproof?

Perhaps they were going to announce new ones but they slipped it to the next Apple event.

The Apple Watch in the video supported teleportation but I guess that is for a future year.

The fact that Face ID does not work in landscape on the iphone max makes me worried that the new iPad Pro only working in portrait rumor is true. I think that will be a dealbreaker for most people.

Also, iPhone XR: An LCD display that’s not even full 1080P...in 2018?? At $749 that’s just insulting. I was hoping to upgrade from my SE but now for the first time I’m considering the competition. The OnePlus 6T looks reallly promising!

I give Cook & AAPL a D+ for what they announced today.

Usually, an "S" year brings some Engineering Accomplishment.

So far, I've haven't been able to discover what that might be.

Anybody ???

I've had CNBC on ALL day long, & the so-called Pro Stock Analysts we're ALL hyping AAPL today ... I smell something fishy there !

To this EE turned software developer, Cook & AAPL blew it today ! ... where's the Beef, Cook ???

What the hell are they doing with ALL of their Coin ... is it simply ALL going into Stock Buybacks ???
You going to come back and eat crow when these phones are one of the best sellers of all time? Every new iPhone some genius comes onto the forums and says the same exact tripe you did.... they were all wrong and here's a free lesson...... so are you!

October needs to come faster. I want a new Mac mini

Absolutely. I am still rocking a Late-2012 and really, really, really do not want to buy a Windows box, but I need to replace this BEFORE it dies. So disappointed in the phone company Apple is becoming. Short term gains ... the next Nokia, how did it work out for them long term?

I don’t really see the use case of AirPower if it’s at a rumored $149-$249 price point. It’s not that much more convenient than simply using separate wireless chargers. Maybe for travelers since it means less to carry around but otherwise seems like an odd product.

Agreed. When I think of wireless charging I'm thinking you can be in the range of the signal and it powers your device not put it on a physical charger. Might as well plug it in the conventional way.

I like it when they do a "tock" cycle. So do most other humans who want tech that works properly

^ This. I love "s" releases. Tried-and-true components and manufacturing, with improvements. This is why OSX Snow Leopard was so good: under-the-hood speed and reliability improvements, instead of a mishmash of "new stuff" that doesn't work and no one wants.

Though I liked the S4 Watch, overall I felt today’s event was a snorefest. Would have been great to see one of these items as the ‘one more thing’. Hope they have another event planned for October.

I will be only miffed if they do a silent release on updated macs .

as for the show only the ECG feature of the watch impressed me, nothing else was really impressive or interesting. the lower cost iphone was needed but they should have aimed even lower

A suitable SE replacement

They removed iPhone SE from their lineup, if SE 2 was coming it would have make sense to remove SE the same day they announced its replacement.
iPhone 7 is now their cheapest option, not the same as SE in terms of size but I'm afraid they're not making another 4'' again. Maybe an X line phone with 4.7'' in a smaller body will be the next SE in a couple of years when they won't be able to sell the 7 anymore.

Waiting for the new mac mini so was quite disappointed but thats my own fault :( I liked the new iPhones but wow the pricing is insane.

Instead of a mac mini. Replace it with just a headless "Mac". Would be nice to have it simpler like:

Laptops:
Macbook (just processor options, ram, ssd size, nice entry level)
Macbook Pro (touchbar and pro stuff)

Desktop:
Mac (headless, just processor options, ram, ssd size, nice entry level)
Mac Pro (EEC memory and all that pro stuff)
iMac (all in one)

Tablets
iPad (ssd size, nice entry level)
iPad Pro (dump pro features here)

Tele
iPhone (skip fancy cameras, nice entry level)
iPhone Pro (Pro specs and good cameras)

It's silly to think that people thought they'd announce any of these things (short of the AirPowe). The September keynote has always been about the iPhone. On rare occasion they've added an iPad announcement, but even then it's generally been just little updates to it. These other releases will have to wait for another time, as they have in the past.

We all know Apple have forgotten about the MacPro, but I'm disappointed that MacRumors have forgotten about it too.

Apple specifically said, earlier this year, that the Mac Pro wouldn't be released until 2019 (and didn't say when in 2019 either) so predicting it in October would be a stretch even by MacRumors' standards.

The rumours of a "not-so-mini Mac mini Pro" could be garbled stories about the Mac Pro - otherwise it seems unlikely that Apple would throw away the opportunity to make customers who just wanted an i7/i9-class headless desktop fork out for the new Mac Pro.

Anyway -probably best to forget about the new Mac Pro anyway: the longer we wait, the more certain we can be that Apple are over-thinking it. It doesn't take 2 years to design the mini-tower PCIe Hackintosh actually needed by the sort of customers who aren't delighted with the iMac Pro. That is - those who are still around.

Frankly, the last glimmer of life left the corpse of the Mac Pro when nothing was said about it at WWDC (the trashcan and the iMac Pro both got WWDC previews despite not being available in quantity until early the following year). One definition of a "pro": "someone who can't afford to wait 2-3 years for a new computer without being given one molecule of detail on what its specifications will be, when it will appear and how much it will cost". Once people have moved their pro workflow to Windows or Linux then they're not going to be in a hurry to move back.

Ahh, I don't think so. The Mac mini trajectory with recent releases is to dumb down, so its probably going to be iPhone Xs hardware running macOS in a white case without cellular and cost $899.00, no replaceable SSD, no upgradable RAM, lightening 3 ports only with USB wall wart power supply.

"Everything Apple Didn't Announce at Today's Event": anything innovative.

with the exception of 6S, no "S" iteration of iphone had anything ground breaking included. That was almost always reserved for the new release.

I think update is fine, and Xr looks like a nice phone.

You might and thousands of other people may, but not the millions and millions Apple needs to get a decent return on it’s investment.

Hundreds of millions of people agree with me. Or 7. Since Apple doesn’t make devices for their customers, but rather in spite of them, we have no idea what the demand is.

Agreed, it’s a tock. I’m more interested in the watch 4, but that’s because I have a discontinued X.

You are not going to get a mac mini. Look, Apple just released a near $800 as "budget", that's flagship prices. Apple are no longer an computer company, but a fashion company. The only way anybody is getting a mini is with a hackintosh.

Random thoughts in no particular order:

The latest iPhones aren’t a significant upgrade from last years.
True, but it was announced about a year ago that Apple was going to concentrate on reliability instead of releasing phones with known hardware/software problems. There are bound to still be some but we’re going to need to see how reliable IOS 12 is.

I want an SE upgrade/replacement.
It isn’t going to happen. A majority of people like bigger phones and Apple has dug in its heels and won’t change even if it costs them customers. I know people who want a SE sized phone but there aren’t enough to make Apple reconsider, even if they could make money selling one. This has moved from supply and economics to prestige and ego. Ego will win.

The cost is outrageous even for Apple.
Yes it is. There are people who say it has been for at least 10 years. As long as they make money the price structure will stay the same. At this point, even if there is a sharp drop in profits it would take 2 or 3 cycles to drive that point home.

There is nothing impressive about the Xs or X Max.
The processor is extremely impressive with its speed. No Android phone comes close. The camera/software combination is also damn impressive. Whether the phone is worth well over $1000 on items you physically can’t see and have a hard time comparing to either competitors or other models is something I can’t answer.

I was thinking the same thing. Then I remembered how the original airpods were pushed back almost a year... It seems like they are very hard to make.

If that is true, than that wont be a Mac mini at all. It will be called something else.
Anyway, we will see, if a "new headless desktop computer" gets updated October this year or not.

I would say, it won't be updated, but that is just me.
Maybe next year, when the "pro" machine gets released as Apple promised.

I'm with you on this.

As much as I'd like an updated Mac Mini, going beyond the performance and features of my 2012 Mini, I don't see Apple making a compelling business case for that.

The original Mini's purpose was to sway Windows users to the Mac camp via an inexpensive device. That likely didn't meet expectations back then, even though a *relatively* small number of tech enthusiasts like myself embraced the computer.

I imagine a new "Mini" will be something else. With a higher price that will result in a better return for Apple.
