Apple needs new software designers. This is ridiculous.

Example: the long-press on + to immediately go to the photo picker.

STUPID. Not intuitive at all, even in the slightest.

Most people send PHOTOS in their texts more than they use stickers, avatars, location data and other features.

So rather than make a PHOTO button front and center and easily accessible, they expect you to think of long-pressing a simple button in order to introduce the shortcut.

Who thinks that way? Nobody. No one. Not a single person would think, intuitively, to hold down + as a fast way to bring up photos.

Ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to use Google or YouTube to search how to perform simple functions that a 3-year old used to be able to figure out with iOS. It’s like nothing matters anymore.
So true. User interface breakdown. The paint icon on the 128k Mac was intuitive. Maybe Apple has good intentions and wants to help seniors like myself keep the brain active by forcing us to memorize as many “shortcuts” as possible.

Here's to the crazy ones...
Here's hoping that the native Podcasts app will stay in sync.
Here's hoping that when I open the app, random episodes from 2018, 2021, 4 weeks ago, etc will stop mysteriously reappearing as unplayed.
Here's hoping that when my iPhone is all caught up, my iPad won’t say I have 50 unplayed episodes, my Mac 14 unplayed episodes, and my Apple TV saying I have 789 unplayed episodes.
Here's hoping that after years, YEARS, of something going on with my .Mac Apple ID behind the scenes that I have no access to making my Podcasts sync data completely broken it'll suddenly get fixed.

But, I suspect, that I'll be renewing Overcast the next time my subscription is due.

I agree. iOS, in fact all Apple OS’s design is a mess rn.
I am not saying everything in every OS is, but a lot new features are not well thought out.

Slowly writing down some examples…
1. The Apple watch’s animation of double clicking side button to bring up wallet is glitchy. The original design was much smoother and thoughtful.
2. The new control center of Apple TV is weird. If you click down after selecting a section, the cursor moves to the top left.. it should move to the icon spatially below the current section.
3. Placing widgets on Mac desktop. I don’t think I ever have empty spaces left for windows I need to open, not going to see the widgets ever. And you cannot interact with iPhone widgets that needs to open the App, there is no continuity.
4. iPad’s multi tasking, there is so many different paradigms mixed together. I feel a heavy mental burden whenever I pickup my iPad.
5. The new ios keyboard has so many bugs, but one of which affects PiP, they are pushed all the way to the top

Six betas in and they have not fixed a single issue of the hundred I've reported. The beta is more refined, and just as crappy UX as the first one.
apple gets tens of thousands of feedback reports during a cycle, if not more than that. these betas also are planned and developed months in advance. heck, they’re already testing iOS 17.1 internally from what i read in an article a little while ago.

if the issues aren’t software breaking, they won’t have that high of a priority. that’s just how software development works. things are typically filtered by priority, especially bugs.

And, I’ve always thought “Why use this ‘baby’ Photos view when I’ve got actual Photos just a swipe away?” I’m far more apt to find a photo in Photos then use the share feature, which still sends it to Messages.
What if it doesn’t bring up the baby view by default, but rather a legit photo picker?

A bad design doesn’t make another bad design better

Personally, it doesn’t bother me, I use pretty often the long press across the system. But also, I don know if anyone can check this, but I guess if you set the Haptic Touch to fast, a new and faster setting on iOS 17, could make much easier this long press.
But does anywhere else in the system, you long press a plus icon, to open an image picker, or to perform an action?

The problem is not with long pressing, but rather, you won’t expect long pressing the plus icon to bring up the image picker. That is unintuitive.

The redesign of the app picker in the Messages.app is one of the most idiotic changes Apple has made in a long time. It looks like something Facebook Messenger would have. It was perfect the way it was. How is a vertical list that takes up the whole screen and blurs the background any better or more intuitive than a horizontal scrolling bar, like it was in iOS 16? I guarantee this is going to be the most hated and criticized change that iOS 17 has brought. I can’t wait for them to change it back, which we all know is going to happen.

This is a prime example of change for the sake of change.

Lmao, how many of you, without randomly watched a video or a post, knows you can drag the items in the newly styled menu in messages app after clicking the plus icon to reorganize the items. what a mess of UX design
You could always rearrange stuff on the messages app since forever, so I don't see the surprise really. Whats the alternative? To not allow it? Or to fill the UI with more clutter? I prefer it like this, clean as it can be, and we can always learn things by using it.

Its actually the second best improvement, next to the auto correct. I hated the previous messages with all those icons and menus, now its totally clean with onle a + symbol on the side. I am a minimalist, the less clutter the better.

It’s actually more steps as before you clicks the app icon and that app opened directly below it where keyboard was.

But most people just text, I rarely ever need to send a picture on sms. That's why I prefer to not even that pointless bar taking up space, it looked cluttered, now it looks clean. I do not see the issue of pressing twice to add a picture.

He might be suggesting a photo picker icon next to the plus, because that’s the most used function.
Options are good, so yeah, but in the lack of options I'd rather have the less icons possible, I hate clutter, thats why I prefer macos over windows. Most used function, it depends, not for me, I rarely text a picture at all, 99% of my messaging is actual messaging, I dont even use emojis or anything like that. And whenever I take a picture to share, I share it straight away, I do not go to open the messaging app, when you take a picture, just press the icon to share, be it messages, whatsapp, facebook messenger. I cant even remember the last time I was already texting and just decided to take a picture.

Theres like a crazy statistic that like 2 trillion pictures are taken every year, sorry but yeah people share pictures via Messasge.app all the time. Especially memes :)

Also currently in iOS 16 while in Messages.app, if you press where the App Store icon is (next to camera icon) you can permanently hide the app bar. Pro tip.

I don't care where the "End Call" button places as long as I get a caller app features like in Android. Perhaps the only thing I miss in my iPhone when moved from Samsung. In fact End call button on the side wasn't a bad idea. When it is in the middle, it happened often that I ended calls by accident.
Its better in the middle, on the side is where you are holding the phone, so prone to more accidents, because most people are right handed. But on the left it would be bad for left handed people, so middle is the best. I have no idea what is those features of samsung you mention, the only things I need on a call is hang up, mute, or transfer to another number. Oh and loudspeaker. I cant think of anything else needed. Maybe a record call button? I wont need it for sure, but someone might.

Bring back 3D Touch! For the win! 😉🤣🤣🤣 I actually liked it. I understand that the newer panels may have had a problem with it though. I think I’ll survive. But not sure about this human. 🤭🤷🏻‍♂️
3d touch? You realize you would need to go back to an iphone XS right? The 15 is already around the corner, any iphone from 11 up dont have the 3d touch tech.

Oh no, now you lose half a second each time you share a picture, I share a picture like 2 or 3 per week, mostly things for sale on classifieds. So I will lose 1.5s per week. That is really a motive to freak out.

Maybe they'll get it right in the next beta. Put the mute and speaker buttons back where they go. The keypad button should be on the top row in the middle. The add and FaceTime buttons can be on either side on the bottom. As I so rarely use the, I'm indifferent to their placement.

They keep updating the mood logging animations and there’s like 10 emotions in total to choose from. Feels so limited and useless, I reported it to them, I wonder what the rationale behind leaving so many emotions out was.
