Bummer, I like where the end call button was -- I could easily tap it with my right hand and thumb when it was lower right. Not that it's across the screen with the change or anything but I was cool with it.

The reason why it has been moved to the middle is because many people are pressing the ride side when on a phone call so the screen doesn’t dim.

When in the keypad while on a phone call, the hang up button is still on the right so in my opinion we’re not ok there!
I beg to differ — the reason it was moved is because a lot of people complained due to being left-handed, of course while I am right-handed — I still found it uncomfortable because that is where my assistive touch button rests. I don't think this has anything to do with pressing the screen while on a call so it doesn't dim — why do you even need to do that?!
When you go into your keypad, you do so to enter numbers, so why would you even risk tapping the bottom right corner?..

I liked the idea of moving the end call button - I sometimes accidentally call someone in my Favorites list, because the other person on a call that's ending hangs up just as I'm about to hit the end call button. Annoying.
I know, I almost want them to add a "call?" prompt, but I know it will drive me crazy every time I do intend to call))) Perhaps calls should be initiated with a long press?..

They added a "tap to view" button to see the incoming live voicemail transcript while your screen is locked. Tap it and Face ID triggers and then you can see the live transcript. Nice! Much handier now.

When I updated to beta 6, I noticed that the beta update in software update was "off" and there was no option to turn it on until I clicked on my apple ID and then backout out without changing it. Just a heads-up in case this is not just a me thing.

Just checked, same here. Have a developer account

Thanks for the heads-up

It’s weird how beta updates affects people’s iPhone so differently. Mine is cold as ice.. 🥶
Its not weird, some people have restored the phone as new, others have just kept updating since ios 16, others restored with their old stuff on icloud. I restored as new, no backups, as I always do with a brand new IOS major update, and any issues have been solved since developer beta 2.

Can’t they keep the call screen as it is on iOS 16, with the end call soft key at the bottom of the screen on its own.

Or am I missing something?

This messing around with the call screens seems as useful as the new tabbed interface in safari on macOS and iPadOS a few years back.
The whole purpose of beta software is to try and see what works best and what customers would like best. The final ios 17 when it launches then thats it, they wont be messing around after that.

I’m sure no one else is as annoyed by this unnecessary inconsistency between the iOS & macOS versions of Notes…

Can any beta kids out there see if it’s finally possible to change the text color in the iOS version of Notes? Currently, that feature is only available in the macOS version of Notes - which I find annoying.

While I’m here: I really dislike the number of taps now required to change text formatting in Notes. Prior to iOS 16, if you wish to implement two text formatting options (like bold and italic), it required a minimum of 4 taps (not counting the double-tap to select copy). Since iOS 16, that same format change requires a minimum of 7 taps. Nearly double! I’d like to see the return of the way text formatting worked before.

I know I’m in the tiniest minority of those that could possibly care about this. But Notes is part of my daily workflow. So everyday, I’m reminded of these issues.

I don’t know what you have had happen, my camera app has been working flawlessly.
Mine crashes like a em effer and then when trying to send photos in messages it freezes in a way I’ve never seen before.
Good news is I haven’t had that issue with this update, so far so good.

This is a pretty ridiculous comment. You can criticize UI even if you’re not an expert in the field.
One cannot, it is very likely those who complain have not considered all the options… I don’t think you fully grasp just how much UI changes need to be evaluated, likely involving collection of telemetry from all users to understand usage patterns.

It is not necessarily so that if a particular UI element does not work for you this would also be the case for all others.

I can confirm a lot of wireless CarPlay issues in this release. I have a BMW which only supports wireless CarPlay, and it's constantly disconnecting and then reconnecting again. I'm uncertain if it's a Wi-Fi issue, but it's very persistent.

I've tried both a soft and hard reset without any luck and even resorted to resetting my network settings (a royal pain, but I am running a beta), and again it had no impact on the connectivity issues.

It's incredibly annoying as I have no wired option in my car.

Six betas in and they have not fixed a single issue of the hundred I've reported. The beta is more refined, and just as crappy UX as the first one.
That was the case for me every single year as well.
Except this one. I don’t bother writing reports anymore, especially after I’ve heard and read how many people think the betas were stable and well, meanwhile for me it was bugs galore.
This year I hear it’s bad but apart from some (sometimes still really strange and annoying bugs) it works good.
watchOS 10 even works better than 9 on my S7.

I do this all the darn time. Very annoying.

Apple needs new software designers. This is ridiculous.

Example: the long-press on + to immediately go to the photo picker.

STUPID. Not intuitive at all, even in the slightest.

Most people send PHOTOS in their texts more than they use stickers, avatars, location data and other features.

So rather than make a PHOTO button front and center and easily accessible, they expect you to think of long-pressing a simple button in order to introduce the shortcut.

Who thinks that way? Nobody. No one. Not a single person would think, intuitively, to hold down + as a fast way to bring up photos.

Ridiculous. I’m so tired of having to use Google or YouTube to search how to perform simple functions that a 3-year old used to be able to figure out with iOS. It’s like nothing matters anymore.
I disagree, I like it. Makes absolute sense to me. It's not a "think of intuitively" thing though, it's called learning how to use your phone. There's tons of tips and tricks for things the iPhone can do that a lot of people don't know about.

Heck it's the same way on my Android phone. I have articles pop up in my Google News feed and find out things quite often about Android changes.

While I agree what may not work for some works for others, you absolutely can still can criticize Ui without being an expert in the field. It is literally called the user interface. If a user has a complaint they can voice those complaints. You’re assuming that Apple looks at the data of all users to make their design choices. Also what telemetrics would tell them holding the plus button would be an intuitive thing, if this is something new to IOS? That’s what the original comment was criticizing before Pavvel went all ad hominem on the original complaint.

People here are very good at criticizing: the best helmsmen stand ashore ;)

Ut hey, file your feedback in the app, apply for a UI/UX designer job at Apple or buy something else! The world is filled with opportunities, why spend time criticizing things here!

This is a public forum about Apple products for Apple consumers not just those who think Apple is perfect or above public criticism. You’re viewing criticism as some negative thing and all your posts voice the same ideology of “don’t complain about it.”

It’s ok to not like something and make suggestions. I don’t even necessarily agree with the original complaint. But the mindset of “well if you don’t like it how about you go work for Apple” is childish, which is what my original reply was to.

“Just buy something else” - it’s also fine to like apple more than other products and still have criticism with it. No device will be perfect. But to just avoid all criticism of the device you pick is silly.

I make lots of phone calls on a daily basis and this has never happened to me once, nor have I heard of this complaint from anyone else.
And whilst you make them do you do anything else on your phone? Like check email/messages/ browse? If the phone locks during a call an and you need to wake/unlock it this happens regularly because the RED button is so damn in the middle.
Or do you use an iPhone with home button?

I did not notice this before. When you zoom a photo in the photo app, it has a crop button in the top right corner. The same for video too. See the short clip. 👍👍👍

It was one of my favorite things, also why I held on to my XS for 3 years — but it's a hardware feature, so this definitely won't come back as a software update. The faster haptic is quite good though.
Is it hardware? When I tap the torch or camera icon on the lock screen, nothing happens. When I 3D touch it, it works. 🤷‍♂️

No... 3D Touch didn't work with a tap either... You're not 3D touching it — you're long pressing it. The amount of pressure you're applying is irrelevant — with 3D Touch — it made a difference.
