Didn't you know? When you register with Facebook, you automatically quit all other social activies and all of your friends change into virtual
"Facebook friends" and you spend the rest of your life at the computer.

"/s"

No joke.

In all seriousness, I understand some people not enjoying social networking and such, but for all the crap things like Facebook takes, this is one of the more pathetic points of debate out there.

Wow! People here are childish.
Here's my take on it:

1) People who boast about their great social life(on the Internet:rolleyes:) and how FB sucks and they don't use it and all, I'm happy for you and your lifestyle.
So please continue with that lifestyle and don't post about it again and again.
There are people , like me, who uses Facebook so this news is relevant for us.

2) I'm using iMessage, Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.
And there are advantage of FB messenger which no other service provider has.
If it's not obvious here it is:
Cross platform : You don't need to be on any particular device to use this.
I can chat with my friend who is on using PC using my iPhone.
No other platform has this simplicity.
iMessage is only for Apple devices and you can't have use Whatsapp on PC.
You can even chat with someone who doesn't have a smartphone.

3) Facebook home: I think I'm not alone in saying that but it's crap.
Like many people I've installed it, tried it out for 10 mins and uninstalled it.

4) Chatheads: This is one thing FB did right. In the hindsight, I'm shocked how no other messaging service did it first.
Chatheads on Android: This is how it should be. Perfect implementation.
No chatheads are not that stickers or big emotions.
It is just a minimized chat.
Here's how it is useful. I was just reading an article today and one of my friend messaged me.
Instead of getting a notification I got a chathead. I saw his message and replied. Tapped on the chathead and it minimized. Till the time he was replying , I kept on doing what I was doing.
It's 100 times more easier than having to switch between apps.
If anyone says it's useless, then honestly you haven't used it.
It is for this feature alone I would tell my friends to message me on FB instead of Whatsapp , because its a intuitive way of messaging.

Chatheads on iOS, from what I've seen is just useless. It's like taking a shower wearing raincoat.
If I'm inside the app already what's the point of chat heads.

I really wish Apple does something about it( I know they won't) because having a conversation with someone on iPad while doing what I was doing is just the way it should be.

I updated but did not get chatheads (still get banners within the app) or stickers?!

That's not true, my friend updated and he has chatheads.

They're rolling it out over the next week. Not all users will get it at the same time.

Yes this is cool. But any idea why chat heads are not working for some people?

It's a feature being rolled out to users over the next week or so.

Chat heads outside the app is a lot cooler; looks great on my Nexus. Maybe someone can do a jailbreak app for it.
No.
You kidults keep this nonsense in the Android playground thanks.
Leave the other platforms for the big people k?

Too late :) facebook is allready integrated on iOS

The option of posting photos directly to facebook from the camera roll i. E. obviously is far less intrusive than the Facebook Home approach. But in general, yes you're right and until today I don't think it was a good decision to integrate Facebook into iOS as they've done it. There are various social networking services around and while the popularity made Facebook an obvious choice to integrate, I hope that at some point you'll have the option to preconfigure your preferred services in iOS instead of having predefined ones.

(and no, my sarcastic friends, it's not enough reason to switch to any competition, but I might just be a completely blind Apple devotee ?!)

That's right!
So there's no controversy at all.
The kidults have long had the ability to have the effluent of FB pouring across their notification screens in iOS if they so choose.
The much vaunted 'choice' we here about endlessly from the Android shills.

This seems to be making fb even more annoying than ever before, combined with the home crud I think it's gone completely mad

The last time I used Facebook, was well, never. Just a silly platform for people who think they are important, and have something to say. Neither of which is true.

No.

Right, because if someone could make it happen on a jailbroken iOS you would be forced to jailbreak your phone, install Facebook, and install the tweak. Get over yourself, everyone is allowed to use their phone as they see fit.

No.

The guy you were replying to was right though. This is a big step ahead of iOS for the Android platform, and an absolutely irrelevant update for iOS.

It's not about floating chat heads - it's about multi-tasking chat, exceptionally well executed. SMS and Facebook messages in one multi-tasking, non-intrusive interface? Works absolutely brilliantly on my S3.

On my iPad, however...it's just a UI change for an app. Nothing new whatsoever.

this is what i said when they announced facebook home. dropped every app on all my devices and haven't been on since. Its pretty nice to be FREEEEEEE

Que"I'm Free"from Tommy by The Who!
Exhilarating isn't it?

Yeah, FB really wants to make the messenger component a visible feature, because they want you to use that over iMessage, SMS, WhatsApp, etc. That gives them control over another major communication channel, so they've got messaging, threaded type chat, photos, gaming, photos, e-commerce (hell, even phone calls!) right through the FB platform ... it really is it's own self-contained environment "outside" of the internet.

Hey maybe they will become the new AOL?

----------

For all the threads on this site in regards to FB, I don't understand the backlash. If you don't like FB, for whatever reason, just don't download the app or use the service.

Anyone who needs to log in to post how they can't wait to disable their account/delete the app etc... I assume the only people that are actually excited about that prospect are the people who have you in their newsfeed.

Hey!Somebody just poked you!And you need to water your crops!

1) The iOS version is a gimped version and is not as good as the Android version. I'd also like to note, just like most apps recently, the Android version got updated first.

2) I'd rather have the choice to have it and turn it off, than not have it at all

Why don't people understand you can turn things off?!

Exactly, the damm thing is allready on iOS and if you dont use facebook it will not bother you or force you to create an account and enable it  hell iOS dont even tell you about the option unless you go into settings and see it.

I'm the opposite. Have Chat Heads on my iPhone, but not my iPad. Is the sticker feature being rolled out slowly, too? Can't seem to find it.

Same here. Have Chat Heads but not Stickers. Hopefully we get it soon before they start charging
