Facebook for iPad Going Live with Updated Universal App for iOS

Blue screen, app deleted, reinstalled, froze half way through, hard reset, won't stop trying to install, can't delete.

I hope someone is at Facebook is FIRED.

Biggest failure in app history? Steve would have fired someone....

its called marketing, no quality just marketing the name

besides facebook and skype should be replaced with more decent trustworthy companies not obsessed world supremacist seeking to control the populations and running a information collecting campaign
 
Works for me straight away. iPhone took a bit longer to load, but that was probably because I was updating other apps too.
 
installing the fb update got stuck during installation. Resetting the phone has put my phone into an initial lock up state with the apple logo. I dont want to do a restore since i havent done a back in 2 weeks and phone contains tons of pics from family gatherings and such.. oh man.. this app killed me phone
 
Finally loaded. It took forever, so I finally closed all apps and restarted the phone. Apparently that's all it needed (yes, my phone is jailbroken), although it still took its' time loading.

I must say, I'm usually all for updates/improvements, but this is pretty bad. I used to hate the old layout, but now I actually miss it. This new layout is terrible.
 
It's also updated for iPhone. I think its stupid, who has so many friend requests they need a button at the top of every page. The friend request button should be changed to a News Feed button and there should also be a button for Chat at the top. Why can't developers make things easy to use?
 
anyone running iOS5 on ipad 2 having problems posting photos with the Facebook app??

when choosing a photo from camera roll the app crashes....
 
When you click Photos on the left in a browser it shows you all the latest photos your friends have uploaded. When you click it here (iPad and iPhone) you just get to see your own photo albums. Annoying
 
So does the new iphone app make the recently released Messenger app a little redundant?
 
I like the new versions on iPad and iPhone. However if I uninstall the messenger app, I don't get push notifications on messages which is annoying....:(

So I still have to have the messenger app.

Wow. Hyperbole much? It's working fantastically for me. Your experience is not my experience is not everyones experience. I'm running this on iOS 5 GM. Zero problems.

Same here actually... thought it was just me ... the install on the ipad worked, but the upgrade of my iphone froze to a point where the phone needed not just one or two, but 4 hard resets .. stuck at "installing" even after reset .. only went away when I restored from backup and installed via itunes
 
Ugg... The "friend request" at the top is stupid, I'd rather have my favorites back and accessible. I used that more than the actual news feed, especially after the butchered it.

And the updated the web app so it is identical to the iOS/iPhone app. I'm not sure why there is even a dedicated iOS app now, aside from push notifications, which FB could pull off with SMS. Wait, doesn't this now violate the developer terms by duplicating the same functionality of the website?
 
I like the app, BUT:

1) no Like button visible on comments within Page posts- only when u view those same posts on your News Feed will u be able to Like comments within posts.
2) no Share
3) Pages list is a pain to get to- swipe to reveal side menu, Friends, then finally Pages. A screenshot shows Pages in the side menu on the app store- why isn't it there?
4) uploading a photo doesn't show it in the News Feed, only in your Profile
5) selecting a PUSH notification loads the app but just shows a white blank window with the top menu- doesn't show u the message associated with the notification
6) Chat only visible in landscape and in News Feed view? Really? Why can iPhone have Chat listed in Apps on the side menu and display Chat in portrait but not iPad???
7) Can't unlike Pages
8) Can't remove photo albums

There is most probably more but i think thats enough for now.

To add- I have also read that Facebook have also update their mobile website for iOS- yet, when I visit it on my iPad, it looks exactly the same as it has been for months. Is this as US only thing? (I'm in UK)

Second I deleted the app and reinstalled it from App store...
Next thing my phone crashes and hangs on apple boot logo forever!

After about 10 minutes phone starts up and Facebook app is no longer on the phone period. It's like it never existed to begin with.

This is very strange and unlike any other app I've installed on my phone!

I just downloaded it again and will see what happens...

rinse, lather, repeat!

I wish google+ would release an iOS application!

UPDATED: Facebook reinstall and now seems to be working! Facebook now offers a direct link to my Foursquare App? Is this new I've never noticed an app being able to link to another app!

Really digging the UI changes. The iPhone app seems smoother and way less buggier, and the iPad version is great to have.

Apps can launch other apps using URL schemes. They can even deep link into a specific part of the app should the developer set it up that way.
 
I was having the same problem with my 2 iPhone 4's. I had to uninstall old app, redownload new 4.0 app. After that it sat on installing for about 10 minutes but then it finally finished installing and has worked fine. Didn't have to do a hard reset. Hope that helps
