Yup the delete/reinstall worked.

Now the search feature kinda sucks. Needs some work to where can actually search... How do you find other people or pages?

Oh and I will add that I had a do a few hard resets and try to download the app again a few times as it froze in the process of installing. Ouch with the people that had to do a full restore of their phones :( glad I didn't have to resort to that. So was this just a possible issue with jailbroken iPhones/iPads?

Ugh...

Same exact thing happened to me. Glitchy, and I reinstalled the app. Installing so I rebooted. Frozen. I'll wait out for 10-20 minutes then do a restore. ugh, ridiculous.

.....It worked....10 minutes with the apple logo and it came up. Piece of crap app update...!

I attempted that. It stopped halfway through installing and froze. The app store says it's installed and I can't delete it from my phone. Really an amazing update.

EDIT: Just saw your edit and restarted my iPhone. Works now.

Did Facebook just completely steal mypad and re-brand it as theirs? So far so good on my iPad and iPhone running iOS 5. Their developers though really need to get it together these buggy apps of theirs are ridicules.
 
Couldnt get it to load after direct update, uninstalled the app, rebooted, reinstalled the app, and it works fine.
 
I got it installed on my iPhone 4 (latest os) and iPad 2 (latest). It's installed but I can't log in. Keep getting told it will send me an SMS. When it did (45 mins later) it didn't work for either. Then another. And another. None work :(
 
Now who was the bright person who put the small "send" button next to the delete key?

Also why isn't the return key a way to send the message or chat message?
 
Updated. App Froze. Deleted. Re-installed. Phone Froze. Rebooted. Nothing. WTF?!

I didn't know an app could screw the phone up this bad. I am deleting it immediately after I can get my phone to work again. How did this ever get through the app review process?
 
The new app is a no-go for me. Reinstalling did nothing. Oh, well, back to the old version that works.

Did you figure out how to reply at all? I can't reply to anything, there is no send button!
 
Anyone use the webapp from safari? It looks like the same exact thing to me as the 4.0 update released today
 
Is this Facebook get special access to the iOS because it just bricked my iPhone!

First I updated my current app... It froze and just sat there
Did a hard reset

Second I deleted the app and reinstalled it from App store...
Next thing my phone crashes and hangs on apple boot logo forever!

After about 10 minutes phone starts up and Facebook app is no longer on the phone period. It's like it never existed to begin with.

This is very strange and unlike any other app I've installed on my phone!

I just downloaded it again and will see what happens...

rinse, lather, repeat!

I wish google+ would release an iOS application!

UPDATED: Facebook reinstall and now seems to be working! Facebook now offers a direct link to my Foursquare App? Is this new I've never noticed an app being able to link to another app!

I like the new look but the chat is actually ****ed. Chat messages seem to be delayed or not sent at all. Anyone else?

QFT. I CANNOT stand badges. I know you can turn them off in iOS 5... but then I wouldn't have anything to OCD about. =\

Funny note: My iPad had 68 updates because it was off all summer because I packed the charge cable by accident. And, my other half had 40 updates on her iPod Touch because she couldn't remember the password to my account. ><

Edit: Should say, installed fine on my iPad running iOS 4 (never had the facebook app installed). My iPhone 3GS updated just fine, running iOS 5 Beta 7. Updated my other half's iPod Touch running iOS 4, no issues. Roommate's GF had the infinite spinning loading icon, so I deleted it from her phone, she reinstalled and it is working just fine (she has an iPhone 4 and iOS 4).

Its there on my iphone, but not my ipad. I tried installing the app on my phone, loaded installed about halfway and just disappeared. I have never seen any app just disappear while being downloaded. this thing is a piece of crap.

It depends if you're in portrait or landscape mode. In portrait mode, chat does not appear at all. In landscape, it shows up in its' own bar on the right hand side of the screen. I'm guessing the developer was coding it primarily to be used in landscape mode, and overlooked adding chat into the sidebar on the left because of this.
 
What seems to have helped on the iphones/ipads Ive installed it on is to delete the original FB app BEFORE installing the new one. I don't know if anyone has posted this or not, I don't have time to go through the whole thread, I just wanted to put that out there in case anyone else came here looking for help. Ive updated four iphones (friends/parents) and three iPads...

At first when I opened the update in the iPhone version it crashed immediately upon launch but when I tried relaunching it again it worked.
