Facebook today announced the release of its first native application for the iPad, coming as an update to the company's existing iPhone application. The new iPad compatibility is being featured on Facebook's site. The updated app should be propagating through to the App Store at any moment.

Facebook's long-awaited iPad application had apparently been delayed several times, with lead developer Jeff Verkoeyen quitting in part due to the delays. The New York Times reported back in June that a Facebook app for iPad would be released "in coming weeks". In late July, an iPad version of the existing app for iPhone was discovered inside the iPhone app, accessible through a tweak, but Facebook quickly disabled access to the iPad-specific interface through that mechanism.

Hoping for an easy way to switch between accounts. Hate it when my wife borrows my iPad and I have to retype my info because she was checking her FB.

Precious seconds lost!

An iPad, iPhone, etc. is a PERSONAL device, intended for use by ONE person only, not to be passed around like a prostitute. Have your wife get her own iPad!

It would be cool if it supports multiple accounts, a la Friendly. That's a great feature on a shared household iPad.

It does support multiple accounts. You just have to sign out and sign back in with your own login and password. No different than a shared desktop, using a browser. If you meant having multiple accounts logged in, well, I don't know about that. I don't think 17 year-old Jenny wants mom and dad going through her messages.

post on another site saying zynga is making an announcement on html5 games.

Not seen anything mentioned regarding todays apparent fb announcement on html5 games but looks like sims will be one of the first few.

Just a shame that most of the games on fb require you to have 100's of friends to make it worth playing without spending serious amounts of money.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en_GB) AppleWebKit (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile [FBAN/FBForIPhone;FBAV/3.5a;FBBV/3500;FBDV/iPhone3,1;FBMD/iPhone;FBSN/iPhone OS;FBSV/4.3.3;FBSS/2; FBCR/O2;FBID/phone;FBLC/en_GB])

About time. Facebook has been the most unstable app on my phone for months!

....the Yelp and Are you interested? apps built into Facebook

Anyone found a way to delete them, please?

They're not really "built in", I believe it simply indicates you've connected your FB account to that other service/site and have the supporting app installed. In fact, if you click the item, it just opens the native app for that service (which is shown by the little [] type icon next to it).

Okay, I can confidently say the iPhone app... still sucks.

Yeah, it looks a treat. Is pretty nifty too. But is generally quite useless if you like to update your status! It just refreshes back to your wall but doesn't actually post you update! Kinda the most important feature on Facebook is pretty useless on the app!

Thanks...

never used these apps before...guess I'll just ignore them

Horrible on the iPad. Way too big, takes up too much real estate. It would be better if it were smaller and more posts could be seen...along with favorites. lists, groups, etc.

I don't agree with the one iPad per person thing. I have one roommate and we share the iPad all the time. It usually sits on the coffee table and we use it for casual surfing of the web, browsing through TV channel listings, the occasional game of Angry Birds, AirPlay, the Remote App, looking up movie times, FaceTiming with friends and family... and even Facebook. We even allow house guests to 'play' with it. Anytime we host parties, they like the ability to pick the next song from the comfort of the couch.

The more personal things - such as emails, online banking, etc - we each do on our own laptops and phones.
