iMessage is not a viable solution for many, it's bugs history aside its not cross platform.
[doublepost=1465663474][/doublepost]Not a fan of Facebook, though it in a central way to keep in contact with many people around the world. As much as I dislike it, I have been informed of many happy and tragic events via Facebook by friends and family.
It's not cross platform? Hmmmm... I didn't realize I wasn't actually communicating with the android people in my group messages.

Really Facebook, really? Next we'll see an app just to allow us to update our status while that will be removed from the main app. It's pathetic.

iMessage bugs history? Really? Apple is rumoured to be introducing it to Android. One would assume Windows is soon, especially if there will be ApplePay incorporated into it.

iMessage is a really simple app that allows users to communicate. It's encrypted and free from the advertisements and nonsense Facebook dishes up. One can easily replace Facebook with iMessage for communicating, and email, as old as it is, is also great.

If you ever switched from iPhone or had friends what switched, yes very Much a bad experiece with iMessage. If you or you friends never switched end were always in the apple Eco system , sure, a great experience.

I know what it does, apple just dropped the ball how it worked when users did not have a appleid anymore and iMessage was registered to an appleid.

One cannot replace Facebook messenger with iMessage ..... Not everyone has contacts with the apple Eco system

Via SMS. Very different when one side has to pay for the service, and the other is getting it part of the dataplan. To simplify it, is there an iMessage app on android or Windows?

You do understand how iMessage works??

Let me explain to both of you, when you leave you country, and start roaming.....SMS costs add up fast, hence why people like cross platform apps, and can send messages using a data plan.

"One cannot replace Facebook messenger with iMessage" -- just watch Apple change that.

If they create an app for android and maybe Windows, sure. Though......why now? It took them a very long time to resolve the issue of people switching, does not seem like apple have interest in a cross platform iMessage. I wish they would, I would drop whatsapp in favour of it.

Until such time, roaming charges mean iMessage is not a solution.

Real jerk move. It's dumb to store photos only on Facebook anyway. They only store a compressed and low-res version.

And on top of that, Mark gets to rape all his users who will happily do whatever he SAYS !!

Slavery was harmless compared to Facebook. Wait n See !
Dude, calm down, it's just a silly site people use to post crap. You don't have to use it if you don't want to.

Apple Pay may be incorporated into iMessage, so it might make sense to extend iMessage to other platforms. I guess it's an approach similar to iTunes years ago. Theres discussion this could be unveiled at WWDC in two days:

I'm not sure why people are complaining since Facebook is free. If you were actually paying for the product, then you would have grounds for complaints.
You must be new to the Internet. Welcome! Glad to have you on board :)

Internet Lesson #1 - Facebook isn’t free.

The product being sold is you.

Here’s one article about it and you’ll find dozens or hundreds more with a simple Google search.

The more time you spend on Facebook, the more ads they can serve up to you. Why do you think they want you to IM other people so much? So you have to come back and look at the responses. And get ads served at you.

LOL AdBlock.

FB has been forcing ppl to download a new app to maintain a function. Like Messenger. That's why I hate FB and have never used messenger.

I have Messenger only, not Facebook. What's the big problem with having a separate app? You just have to click a different icon. It's better than being forced to download an entire 200MiB app with tons of features, bloat, and distractions you don't want just so you can send messages to people.

Actually, I deleted the FB app rather than add the messenger one, and I haven't missed it. I check FB maybe once a week from my laptop, and that works out fine.
Same. It would've been smarter (in terms of benefiting FB) for Facebook to not offer a separate app and force us to use the full FB app, bringing more views to their site.

FB has become a bloated mess, reminiscent of MySpace and we all know how that turned out. I use it far less than I used to, maybe 1-2 times a month, perhaps 1-2 times too much. I have older relatives who use it so I continue to use it. I only use Twitter occasionally, far less than I used to as well. I recently opened a Snapchat account, but I'm not sure how much I'll use that. I just have it in case I need it. I've used Instagram more lately, but I'm not sure how long that will last. In general, I think my use of social media peaked a while back and I'm trying to have more face to face contact with people now if possible. It's definitely more satisfying. Like I said in a previous comment, I think a lot of things have peaked or are peaking, social media among them. Hopefully, Apple isn't included in that group.

I do, and I was being sarcastic. I realize that the SMS messages are different. Thank you for deigning to simplify and explain, however.

Irony is that MR is also not free ;) articles on here are often tailored as click bait , resulting in debate and ads revenue.

And even funnier is that so many on here hate Google with a passion, and yet the ads are served by Google, so while they keep coming on and post against Apple, Google is making money out of them....

Twilio recently released an Add-on store where one can extend their API to take a phone number and use their lookup service via a third party and for five cents find out name, address, net worth, facebook profile, twitter profile, number of friends, followers, relatives, children, home ownership, gender, and household income.

So basically whenever you plug your phone number into a website or call a company, all of this information can pop right up and be populated into that company's database.

You're worth a lousy nickel.

But at least Facebook is free!

Even though you don't pay money doesn't mean there is no cost. There are different types of costs other than money. In this case it is your data and personal information which people hand over to Facebook. Without users, Facebook would not be able to sell advertising therefore make money. It is in their best interests to keep majority of users happy.

Therefore every user of Facebook has a right to complain.

There are many things that point you to face book (such as nearly every contest on this site, they ask you to visit the MacRumors page for an extra chance to win. Sometimes, it's the only way to win.)

It's a platform that keeps 'revamping' their security and privacy settings, often in ways that expose/violate said privacy, and now they are disabling their app bit by bit, making people use OTHER apps to do basic stuff. And ironically, this forced deletion coming up is probably the only way to have your pics deleted quickly by facebook, and not 2 years after you have clicked "delete".
