I'm 39 bro.
My eldest is 17.
NO. I do not seek validation from strangers checking out my kids; glad it makes you happy. I find that creepy & weird.
On the other hand, sharing something with some people you know and seeing what they share and so forth doesn't in the slightest have to relate to anything that has to do with strangers or seeking validation.

Lol, condescending much??!!

The assumption that people that eschew Facebook don't know what it is or what it does, is the height of egotistical ignorance.

Please.
Yeah; believe it or not: we can actually grasp the concept. And we are not "missing out"; trust.
As a matter of fact.... I challenge you to d/l a timer app & for a day, press it every time you waste your life on that time vampire; then- come back here & post to me in minutes and seconds the quantified amount YOU are missing out on life... I will be looking into my daughter's beautiful eyes during that time, listening to her slowly starting to connect in her perfect little brain the sounds animals make with photos of them in her picture books.
Perhaps if a colleague of a former flatmate's cousin saw a video of something equally precious & posted it on FB, you will be able to semi experience that type of joy third-hand.
Enjoy the disconnect.
I absolutely LOVE technology; it is my lifeblood, career, & passion- but miss me with Facebook please. It is the antithesis of all which I hold dear.
There's been some research on facebook use. I read a headline that users are spending more than 12 hours a week on facebook. That's a part time job in itself! https://www.sensis.com.au/about/new...e-than-12-and-a-half-hours-a-week-on-the-site

As a Moments user the app has a lot of utility - not least making it possible to share photos without risk of them becoming available to the public in the main platform. An important consideration.
More crucially Facebook seems to be learning an important lesson from iTunes - overburden one app with functionality and it can become bloated and a frustrating experience to use.
Though people may gripe about having to install extra apps, that may be for the best as functionality is added to each to prevent a single confusing beast of a product.
Spot on. I don't know how many in this thread are software engineers but breaking up the app makes perfect technical sense.

I deactivated my account 3 weeks ago and feel so much better for it.

Same here! Three weeks ago as well. And yeah - I feel great. Thinking about the ultimate next step of full deletion after preserving some of the tagged photos, etc.

They don't save the facebook password which is what is important ;) Everything else personal of mine is set to private already so besides my profile pic and my name there isn't anything else they can grab. Its better to have websites log in through facebook than creating a password for each of them whenever possible.
Oh, that yes. I was under the impression you thought everything was saved on the Facebook side. ;)

Actually most of it is. They only get the email ID & if they need more info then they need authorisation from Facebook. Unless they can provide good reasons for their service to use those details they don't get approved.

Well, you are missing out

I seem to be doing ok,
Wow such a witty comment. Must be awesome to be that cool

See what Facebook does to your online communication skill set? Neuters it.
Let me guess, you have 1500 friends; yet when you want to go out, you haven't anyone to accept your request.

Am I the only one that finds this confusing? Does this apply to the photos you share with your friends, or to some (to me until now unknown) sync function, like iCloud etc.?

It's for auto sync. (Unknown to you )

And on top of that, Mark gets to rape all his users who will happily do whatever he SAYS !!

Slavery was harmless compared to Facebook. Wait n See !

I pretty much despise Facebook for many reasons, but using terms like "rape" and 'slavery" are just offensive hyperbole. There's no need and it just weakens your argument IMHO.

Each new feature they add is a feature to all them to collect more info from you and your smartphone. Each updates you lose privacy. Best not to update or install any Facebook apps on any of your smartphones or tablets. Get a dummy computer and just log on from there if you need to. Make sure nothing else is on that computer though. Just use it to log on and off only.

That pretty much sums up what a phobia is.

I'm not sure why people are complaining since Facebook is free. If you were actually paying for the product, then you would have grounds for complaints.

What does it being free have to do with this?

So the fact that the app is free, means free license to do anything and the user experience be damned?

I think not...

I'd love to quit Facebook and did so some time ago, but came back kinda under pressure. (I can't invite you for this event!)

Facebook has two functions for me:
Facebook helps to keep in touch with friends from around the world.
I unfollowed almost all connections and only check events and companies that prioritise posting on Facebook.

Facebook has become very impersonal, all things personal are now at snapchat.

Instagram is creepier. Its just duckface sunglasses douchebags and food porn.

Or they could, you know, focus on their core competencies instead of spinning things off to die a slow death, like this photo feature. It's a fine line to toe without alienating your users.

Facebook is the definition of Social Media. Only since its arrival socializing has suffered. It is about the worst thing one can treat himself with. Facebook is a one way ticket to becoming unsocial. 1000s of Virtual Friends and friends loosing their dignity with selfies etc. Zuckerberg had to create Facebook to get friends. No one would have followed him in real life without Facebook. Facebook is his idea of being social. How social is 10 people meeting to meet only to sit and stare at their 'smart' - phones and check if someone they dont really know, liked them... Almost amusing if it was not so darn sad.

And on top of that, Mark gets to rape all his users who will happily do whatever he SAYS !!

25ghosts, a polite FYI: There is not a word in the English language, loosing. It is spelled losing, as in lost, lose, loss.

I don't actively use Facebook, but keep it around just in case. Living in Orlando, this morning was THE moment for Facebook to shine, but their news feed algorithms are absolutely awful in a real-time situation.

Here is a screenshot of my feed earlier, with Facebook prioritizing a day-old article about the clitoris, over a friend who works at Pulse letting everyone know he is alive.
