Wow you haters
iOS doesn't even have a home screen!!!
How can you hate ?!
Jesus Christ - what is wrong with this forum
The problem is, that joining Facebook may become less and less of a voluntary "choice". If a smartphone is released with this monstrosity as the default setup, then I'm sure you are prompted to create an account to access the most basic functions of the device. How soon before its on the majority of devices by default?
Facebook is trying to make itself the *only* way to communicate with your friends and share stuff with them. Anyone without an account misses out on invitations, pictures, etc. Not even Google can create anything even remotely close in popularity--they are a monopoly.
Sigh, the Home screen on FB is really unnecessary. Tell me what's the major features about it that you really NEED? I saw nothing during the keynote stream.

"sugarloaf"? Zucker = Sugar...Berg = Mountain, Hill, AlpMore crap from Mark Sugarloaf? Hell NO.
How did they install Android in the iPhone 2g? Oh, wait a minute ...
If you have a teenage daughter who spends so much time on Facebook that she needs a phone UI layer dedicated to such a thing, you have bigger problems as a parent.

Sorry, just had to correct this one.

I know German, so there is absolutely no need to correct me on this - it was on purpose, based on Rio's famous Sugarloaf Mountain.
These first few responses certainly tell the tale of Apple disciples. No room for discussion, no intelligent dialog about preferences and ideas. Nothing but negative responses.
Me?
I cannot comment as I have never used Facebook, nor do I have the slightest interest in what appears to be a massive time sink.
However I don't need to "hate it" or slam Zuck for making an attempt at improving his product.
I happen to enjoy the free enterprise environment.
Fragmentation is not really about what the X device can do that the Y device cannot. It's about devices sharing the same operating system but still look different, behaving different, offering an overall different experience to the user. Even if you are able to make device X - with some effort - look exactly as device Y when out-of-the-box, that's still fragmentation.
Google licenses android to any phone manufacturer pays for it, no questions asked, no real standards enforced. Therefor you'll find a big variety of h/w, varying from awful to high quality. But still, they are sharing the same applications, meaning these applications look different and behaving slightly different to each device. Now, that's the definition of fragmentation.
