What's the difference between Facebook and Twitter?

I just opened both accounts and immediately closed them. I use email and phone to communicate with my distant friends.

Wow. You really gave them a chance there, didn't ya champ?

While I'm not a big fan of Facebook, Twitter is another beast altogether. To equate the two is either uneducated (which is the issue here since you never actually tried using them) or just downright ridiculous. They're two completely different platforms and serve different purposes.

Twitter has actually become my go-to app for news, whether it be sports news, world news, whatever. Once you've been on there for a while, you'll find all the right people to follow so when you open it, you're seeing exactly what you want/need.

How anyone can crap on Twitter is beyond me.

check out this - ads in the home screen :
http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/4/41...ut-ads-in-home-for-android-just-not-at-launch

Given that the users PAY for the device, this is really bad. You pay and are still getting annoyed by ads on the home screen ????

BAD!
Everyone is different so YMMV but personally I want my wall paper to be something I select. The launch photos of perfectly composed/exposed shots of beautiful people doing adventurous things are great but the reality is a blurry picture of someone's lunch or one of those god awful e cards!

Add advertising pushed to me as 'content' and I'm more than happy that FaceBook can't make this work on iOS!

ew.

**** facebook.

what's next, forced facebook registration in order to use your android phone? I'm sure Apple would love that though, it would push even more people to iOS.

Its a bit like the difference between a Radio and a Phone, except that for the Twitter and Facebook comparison they overlap a bit more on what they can do.

A Radio is more useful to get informed, news, what his happening. A phone don't do that, but it keep you in contact with peoples close to you and is a social tools.

Twitter like the radio is a bit more public, its more about what is actually trending in the world, and its a public media that you can participate in. Facebook is more like the phone, keep you in touch with peoples close to you. And like on the phone someone could call you about some big news, its also possible on facebook to use it that way, its just less convenient than twitter on this regards.

I concur on the "let see". I kinda think they could go somewhere with this though, for some Android phone users now, and later for others like me that might resurrect that old tablet as wife's Facebook device.

LOL Zuck, man, you suck. I bet over 50% of the people who visit this forum could have managed this project 1000 times better than you. This is so terrible, just like the website it's designed to emulate. :D:rolleyes:

This is now getting creepy!

Sorry 'friends' I'm starting to get creeped out by Facebook... It's kind of like giving out your secret phone number to the telemarketers. Only instead of a phone call you get 'Suggested Posts' and other BS from people you don't even know, or friends of friends of friends. Oh, I had coffee and a donut for breakfast this morning. Yumm! http://cdn.macrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/eek.gif

Yes, you are pretty much right - but for some reason I trust FB even less than Google

Main difference is FB stores your data permanently. Google deletes it after 18 months.

Meanwhile Twitter sold all your tweets to a startup who's now distributing the info to paying customers. But since they got a cute bird logo, they're alright lol

Every company that monetizes through online advertising is gonna try to build a profile of you through data mining. That's how the industry is right now. If it bothers people they should actively filter what they put on the internet or not use the service at all.

I'm waiting for a company to come out that can data mine message boards because a lot of people who hate FB are pretty generous with the personal info they post on forums. Some of you guys wear the fact you don't waste time on FB like a badge but then spend 3-4 hours a day posting on a board like this, it's practically the same thing and you're an easy target for online marketers once they figure out a business model.

The problem is, that joining Facebook may become less and less of a voluntary "choice". If a smartphone is released with this monstrosity as the default setup, then I'm sure you are prompted to create an account to access the most basic functions of the device. How soon before its on the majority of devices by default?

The whole create an account part to use the phone reminds me of Apple ID

And FB Home won't become a standard. Right now it's an optional launcher. People who don't like it won't use it, cutting off FB's revenue stream. FB has no leverage other than its brand, penetration, and the quality of its launcher.

I really, really like the design of this. Facebook? Not so much. Aka not at all.

But the OS design looks sleek enough on the screens.

I wish we could somehow post the same exact story except it was on iOS home screen and see how the exact same people respond. Something tells me they wouldn't be tripping all over themselves to trash it then.

If you have a teenage daughter who spends so much time on Facebook that she needs a phone UI layer dedicated to such a thing, you have bigger problems as a parent.

All he said was she would like it. Liking it doesn't mean you're on it 14 hours of the day. Way to call him out as a bad parent for such a basic comment.

That looks awful....
that awkward circled picture at the bottom is already bothering me just lookin at the picture
so is the pic of Zuck the home icon or does it make farting sounds when you press it?
That looks like an utter nightmare. I use my phone as a tool more than a social hub. Call me crazy.
So when everyone changes their profile photo to whatever the "cause" of the week is it will get real confusing.
I don't believe it.
These first few responses certainly tell the tale of Apple disciples. No room for discussion, no intelligent dialog about preferences and ideas. Nothing but negative responses.

Me?

I cannot comment as I have never used Facebook, nor do I have the slightest interest in what appears to be a massive time sink.

However I don't need to "hate it" or slam Zuck for making an attempt at improving his product.

I happen to enjoy the free enterprise environment.

Interesting how most people here don't like Facebook. Count me in on that. It's mostly a waste of time.

It reminds me of Justin Bieber. Or maybe the people who hate him are jealous because he took their girlfriends.

So your sentence can be changed to any of the following three...?

Yes, you are pretty much right - but for some reason I trust Google even less than FB

Just kidding. :D

for some that might be true :)

The idea is horrid but they've finally made Android look nice, in other words more like iOS.

The use of Helvetica is lovely, as always.

I think 'yuk', 'ick', ... are an allowable responses to the first impression you get when seeing the device/screenshots of something no matter if you have an FB account or not ...

Could be the coolest phone and the coolest OS in the world.. but it still would not make me sign up to that service.

I actually agree here. From a pure design perspective this is actually pretty nice. Extremely clean and clutter free.

Wow you haters

iOS doesn't even have a home screen!!!

How can you hate ?!

Jesus Christ - what is wrong with this forum

THANK YOU!

Was reading through this incredulously. Not a massive fan of Facebook but some of the implementation is great. The chatheads feature-if only was an Apple feature could be amazing. Looks great already.
Seriously, iOS is so tired yet so much hate for something that's putting one foot in front of another instead of languishing on its stitched leather look.

I don't believe it.

Yeah, I'm with you - not sure how they can turn on their phones 100 times a day when I'm certain they never shut them off because I never see them put them away. Not ever. Sometimes I wonder if the screen of other people's phones display instructions such as, "Right foot forward, left foot forward, right foot forward...", or "Breath in, Breath out, Breath in..." but I'm sure they are engaged in much important things. ;-)
