this is already infinitely better than the iOS-only style BBM that is supposed to come in iOS 5. I see another Facetime like fail on Apple's part.

Well, I downloaded the app and test it out. At least I don't get double notifications ( 1 in the FB app and another one in the FB messenger app) when I receive a message, for now. Got to say its silly to have a stand alone app for something that is already on the other app.

this BS is not needed..

Facebook is in a good position to make it the most used app. If they integrate communication (texting, video, voice all over WiFi), shopping through "pages" and buying media. And if they brought it to the iPhone in an incredibly fun and easy way, they'd be taking more advantage of the iPhone than i believe Apple would be comfortable with.

People who aren't fourteen year old girls use FaceBook? I learn something new every day.

Is this universal for anyone? Cause it loads as an iPhone app on my iPad. No native resolution.

Yes, the title of this article is misleading. "Messenger App for iPhone and iPad" only in the loosest sense. It's an iPhone app, period. iPad will let you use it the way it lets you use all iPhone apps. Pixelated.

Ugh. C'mon Facebook - gimme something I can use over here.

I run my entire business on Facebook... and no, my clients aren't 14yr old girls.

I'm just one example. I know of plenty more people using Facebook in many different ways to make a living. Maybe it's time for you to expand your horizons a bit?

try searching for Beluga that is the only way i could find it.

Still i think this is a worthless app...does anybody even use facebook messages?

I have no idea how you came up with that. Searching for "Beluga" worked, but searching for "Facebook" did not. WTF?

I have no use for it. In all seriousness, none of my adult male friends use it. Just sayin'.

My sister finally talked my 70+ year old mom into starting a FB page after at least a year of her absolutely refusing to do so. She had many reasons for not doing it, like: "why do I care if someone stubbed their toe? Why do I care if someone just ate the best chocolate chip cookie? Why do I want to be friends with people I met once and didn't like enough to get to know then?"

Usually 70+ year old folks are behind the times in tech and pop culture but I'm really starting to think my mom is on to something!

Just what we needed... Yet another way to stay in touch. Someone wake me when they develop an app that makes it so people CAN'T reach me.

She had good reasons. I don't understand why I'd want to stay in touch with people I don't care to stay in touch with. If I don't feel like shooting you a call or an e-mail or a text, you aren't really my "friend" anyway, are you?

I can't find it

I tried to look for it at the US store without success... Maybe they took it down for some reason. (Tried my search with Facebook, and Facebook, Inc. as well).

I don't mind it - app gives me something to use for my friends with Android as I work in an area without cell service, but have access to WiFi (subbasement). This app and iMessage are welcomed.

Facetime is a fail? I must have missed that since I use it nearly everyday.

Back on topic...

I disagree that this Facebook app is better than iMessage, which is not "iOS-only." iMessage is much better in that it is one stop messaging. With it, I can message anyone, for examples my wife (who has an iPhone) and my mother (who has an old-school flip phone). iMessage picks the best way, SMS or iMessage, to ensure either receives my message as soon as possible. With Facebook's app, my mother would not see my message until she logs onto Facebook, maybe sometime this weekend.

I personally don't want to think about how I message this person or that person. Give me one app that sends messages to everyone's phone by the cheapest, fastest means possible. iMessage does that. This new offering from Facebook does not.

I love how Facebook is going to 'archive' the messages.

I've never been on facebook. I find there are already enough idiots out on the roads much less looking for them online.
Besides, after reading the TOS I had to pass. My data is mine. My info is mine. If anyone is to profit from it then it should be me.

I tried that as well, and it didn't work. But than I searched for "Beluga", and it was the 2nd result :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

So ... Just like email, except with less assumption of privacy?

haha idd

It's not a universal app!!! Correct the article plz!!!

It's not the article's fault, Facebook listed it as universal when they submitted it to Apple.

No, it's there.
