but steve jobs said that HTML5 is da awesome and the future of everything

He also said he hated the idea of an AppStore and that the iPhone would never need native apps and that HTML5 'webapps' were enough.

Whats your point?

He got it wrong, obviously. We all make mistakes...

Wow actually the startup speed of the new Facebook app is really impressive now! It's basically there instantly!

And yet we somehow still rocked at the Olympics.

A little defensiveness here from some. As a dual citizen, there is some truth to the gentleman's statement. I've noticed a few comments using the Olympics as an example of America not facing the largest obesity epidemic in its history. Olympians train for life, they are a very small segment of the overall American population and do not represent America as a whole. They are well outside of the bell curve.

As for the statement, one cannot argue that America is not facing a health crisis. It's been an issue for well over 2 decades and is worsening. We have become a country of consumers, and as we consume we produce less. We are over worked, under educated, paying more, earning less, and this effects our overall diets, stress levels, health and happiness. The onslaught of relying too much on our tech is partly to blame. Technology should be an extension of humanity, not en lieu of it. His statement has some validity.

Better late than never...

I hope this version will come to Android very soon!

Kinda different, this is Objective C and Android runs Java apps. One of the big reasons Facebook made it's app in HTML5 is because it was easy to build one app to work in all devices, now with the native apps however I imagine development will be staggered between platforms, since development time will differ for each one.

It's faster/smoother, I'll give them that. But what about features?

Still can't share.
Still can't tag people in-line in post (using @...)
Still can't tag pages
Still can't choose a thumbnail or edit the preview text when posting a link
Still can't change your cover photo
Still can't schedule posts (like you can on the website). I do this often with the page I manage.

I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting (that I'll remember the next time I go and try to use them).

When will Android be getting this update? I need to rub it in to all my friends that we are getting it months prior.

They also published a new version of their Android app today, but it was a minor 0.0.1 version increment. Not a whole new rewrite, but just a few updates to their existing framework (which, IIRC, is also HTML5-based).

Specifically, today's new version of the Android edition of the App heralds the following earth-shattering improvements:
- Easily create events
- Share photos faster with a new upload flow
- Add photos and emoji to messages

Apple release 10.8.1 and Facebook release their new app! This day couldn't get any better!! :D

In all seriousness though, I am so glad they finally released it. It's so much quicker. The amount of times I used to get frustrated with the old app!

I still have my reservations. It runs better, but I wouldn't say it's project butter quality.

You can't view the timelines or newsfeed in horizontal view anymore (turning iPhone sideways). But you can view pictures and videos horizontally.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha --- with a GIANT Samsung logo on the front of it hahahahahahahah

You sir made me laugh out loud with that one :D:D:D

Yes, Samsung built it. In a plant located in Texas. This has been reported very widely.

I don't have it, just 'concerned' about this integration deal they have agreed upon...... in iOS6.

The Twitter integration is completely optional as an install in the Settings app. I'm assuming it will be the same way for Facebook. That's good because I consider Facebook a waste of time.
