So zero downside for the consumer then. The "silent" tracking is what is really creepy. You look at one web page about kangaroos and all of a sudden Facebook is offering up ads for kangaroo gloves, food, and clothing. I love the idea of these ad networks being forced to disclose their tracking efforts.

The list of people who care about the profits of Ad men is about as low as the list of people who want to send all their app and browsing data to Facebook.

Facebook is a joke. All that company cares about is its tracking and ad services, the actual customer be damned...
You've got it all wrong. Facebook DOES care about its customers. Businesses buying ads are the customers, users and their data are the product.

When your entire business model centers on secretly profiting off user data, eventually it will catch up to you.
That's a one-trick pony in a two-trick stable.

Facebook and Google etc have to ask permission to target ads, but Apple's advertising panel for it's own ads will default to on and uses more 'friendly' language. Yet more Anti Trust fuel...

"Contract killer says anti-murder laws will cut 50% of his revenue."
While people are obviously in love with your cute quip, it isn't 100% the truth. Yes, the 'anti-murder laws' will impact that one good at his job contract killer's revenue, but the new laws won't actually cut down on the murder rate.

Same here. This change doesn't mean we're going to be seeing less ads...if anything, we'll be seeing more as competition for eyes increases with ads being less targeted. Apple's intentions are good, but it isn't going to work how they hope.

I’m guessing Joe Public will give zero f.... about poor Facebook. Both them and Google have had this coming for a long time.

I wonder... if there was a mass campaign to do just completely random stuff on FB, Google or just generally, wouldn't that pollute the data with meaninglessness, rendering it useless for any purpose, and therefore worthless? Or some sort of script that would run and just do random stuff, very very quickly?
Just a thought.

Genuine question , lets say the anti trust and all the anti App Store campaign succeeds , and Facebook takes their app to their own store (and of course remove it from the App Store) , will they be able to allow tracking? is it something in the guidelines of the app that needs to be coded a certain way due to new API`s apple is mandating or this is a higher level iOS feature that blocks tracking ?

TLDR - will apps be able to bypass all the track blocking apple is adding (including sign up with Apple) if they go to a 3rd party App Store (if it gets allowed due to all the anti trust that is going around).

This is higher level and only Apple advertising tracking defaults to on :)

Why is Facebook whining about this? It's not as though Facebook has any revenue and earnings problems. The stock value is freaking climbing like crazy. I doubt consumers are unhappy about not having to deal with an avalanche of ads. Apple is trying to protect users from all that ad junk that wastes bandwidth. These ad-based companies are always calling out Apple for doing things that help protect users on the iOS platform. Facebook still has Android OS and all the other platforms to blast ads to, so why is losing iOS such a huge problem. Facebook is making the assumption that everyone will opt-out of ad tracking, but that may not be the case at all. Some people don't mind ads. As long as those ads don't slow down my web browsing too much, I'll accept the ads. It's just good Apple offers the choice.

I doubt this will hurt Facebook very much. From all indications, Wall Street says Facebook has extremely high growth prospects as most people absolutely love that social network. Facebook continues to attack Apple for trying to ruin its business despite being one of the wealthiest companies around. No one is going to give up on using Facebook.
