Facebook is a joke. All that company cares about is its tracking and ad services, the actual customer be damned...
Facebook cares about its customers, the paying customers are the companies that buy ads, you’re simply the product that’s being served.

Surely no iPhone user has ever installed Messenger! I never make a comment on a site that requires Facebook sharing. Why do people let Facebook in? We all lied about our personal info when we set Facebook up in the first place, everyone knew better than to provide real info. I have never clicked on an ad or link on Facebook, I just post to friends.

Facebook users are not its customers. Its a free service. Feel free to leave it.

The users are their customers, just because it's free (its not, you have to view ads) doesn't mean you aren't customer. And just because you can leave it doesn't mean you're not a customer.

Have you found an alternative for staying in touch with friends and relatives? A long time ago, Google tried to create an alternative - Hangout - but it never succeeded. The problem was that everybody was on FB already and it was 'good enough' (sort of like the initial IE vs. Netscape) that none of my friends moved over - eventually I got tired of double-posting everything and ran back to FB, tail between the legs.

This was maybe 5-10 years ago. Maybe an alternative has emerged and people are fed up enough with FB to move to it now? I know of none...

Group texts, Slack, FaceTime group calls, Zoom... living life in real time these days.

Very few people are going to feel bad for them. It's unfortunate that an important revenue stream is suddenly being cut off... but it's in a channel that should never have been dug, and it was kind of a deal with the devil if they let themselves get dependent on it.

Only 50%? I wonder if Apple is attempting to squeeze Google and FaceBook rather than actually protect their customer base? An interesting juxtaposition, more money from more Apple ecosystem customers as they abandon unprotected computing or squeeze financial concessions out of Google and FaceBook. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

In a blog post, Facebook said that it does not collect the identifier from advertisers (IDFA) from Facebook-owned apps on iOS 14 devices, as Apple added a feature that requires users to agree to ad tracking to prevent cross-app and cross-site tracking used to provide targeted ads. Facebook says that it's not a change that it wants to make, but Apple has "forced this decision.

Tsk Tsk, go away Facebook.

Facebook’s “ad targeting” is Fubar anyway. Recently, they have sent me ads for healing crystals, anesthesia machines, dental assistants, veterinary accounting software, and Keanu Reeves in “Bill and Ted Part 3”. None of which I have any use for.

Ha ha. Poor wittle FaceBook won’t be able to collect personal data & sell it to companies anymore. Boo hoo. Some people are saying that FB will be forced to charge people for using FB. Good. I quit FB years ago. Don’t miss it at all. And don’t care what they do.

Well I think this hurt is overrated. The whole industry just adapts to available tech. Remember before tracking there were advertisements in newspapers.

Hahahah the ad industry has lost huge amounts of money because od ad blocking and they have not found a way to recover. Nor should they.
Ads in newspapers don't track you. Obviously. Meaningless comparison.
