Love this kind of thinking. Facebook is bad because they provide a service I use for free, but they generate 99% of their income through advertising. Apple is good because I give them thousands and thousands of dollars for all my gadgets which become obsolete in a year, but they still had a ad platform which is not subject to any regulation. It's ok that Apple does it because they don't generate as much of their income from advertising as Facebook does. Damn do the cultists on here even stop and think about their rationalizations before they type them out?
Facebook can still advertise. They're just pushed to provide information, and they don't want anyone to know what extra information they provide to track people.

The problem is that Apple will not be following the same rules they are requiring all other companies to follow.
I thought Apple is also disclosing the tracking info for their apps,

Regardless, using my metaphor with windows and curtains, even if Apple doesn't allow it, it is still best that with other Apps that I am asked explicitly whether I want the curtains into my windows opened or closed.

Don't you agree? Some control over privacy by intentionally selecting whether the curtains are open or closed is certainly better than no privacy at all. Right?

The issue isn't about "fairness" but rather, do we as Apple users have the right to explicitly decide whether the curtains are opened or closed for each app? It seem ridiculous that anyone would complain about our right to intentionally select whether we want privacy or not.

So I still really don't understand what FB is complaining about.

I would certainly be for a policy where people have to intentionally select whether they want privacy from tracking or not. Who would object to the protection of user privacy?

So then why would you use Facebook? Why do you use a free service and not expect them to make money off of you?
I don't use Facebook but if a company provides a service that I want then I would click Allow without issue. Right now, everyone in our family have life360 which I know its tracking our whereabouts and that's ok. Apple its not taking away anyone's choice - if the service is worth it people will click Allow even to Facebook

The only small business affected is called Facebook. Stop using our private data and selling out to ad companies, Facebullsh*t.. Apple at least respect that part for now..
Yes Facebook keep making a service I use for free and don't make any money off of me. I expect you to do everything for free. Do you also expect that from Apple? It's ok that apple charges thousands of dollars for all its devices that are obsolete within a years time. But Facebook better not make any money off its users.

Of course Apple is not taking away anyone's choice. They are allowing users to opt out of targeted advertising for a service they use for free. Facebook provides a service which most of the world loves to use and Apple is allowing users to continue to use that service and not let Facebook make money off of them.

Coming from the guys who buy up any small business in the social media space to continue having an unthreaded monopoly, I feel like it’s not about small businesses to them.

Might need to rethink that business plan. Good business' are able to change with new restrictions and licensing everyday. Evolve.

Facebook’s position is entirely about profit. But these little hissy fits between companies don’t really matter to the end user. If people actually cared, then facebook would never have become what it has and people wouldn’t be talking about “free internet” of services and we would be spending small amounts on the services we actually use.

That is going to be an ongoing judicial battle; where does personal and public information meet and how does personal privacy mesh with that?

In all honesty, and joking aside. I do believe that people are giving up their right to the privacy of their information to companies such as Facebook and Google and Microsoft and Apple an... well we see where I’m going with this. As soon as they agree to the terms and conditions. It is after all, what they are agreeing to.

What I would like, and why I agree with what Apple are doing in this case, is for people to know they are giving up that right. We all know that very, very few of us trawl through page upon page of terms & conditions before hitting the, I’m losing the will to live reading this, where’s the yes, button.

So, I’d like a prompt to be shown clearly and concisely, identifying the most crucial and important aspects, to be shown before anyone ever gets the chance to tap on, I don’t care, look how funny my baby is, button.

And yes, that should apply to everyone, Apple included.

Yes we know, and every position Apple takes is from a moral standpoint. Apple doesn't like money and they never base their decisions off of profits. They got to be a $2T company because of the moral high ground they claim to occupy. Wake up. We live in a capitalistic society and all business big and small do everything in their power to make the next penny. Apple is better than most at that.

You're one of those people who blocks ads using any means necessary, then continues to consume "free" ad-supported content.
Absolutely, and I’ll tell you why - current ads suck. They take up a good portion of your screen on mobile devices. They are poorly coded, so they are resource hogs. They are TOO personalized, making it obvious you’re being tracked across other apps and platforms. They frequently impede your use of the app or site.

I’m reasonable. Make ads that don’t suck and I wouldn’t use ad blocking software. I get the need for revenue. But my patience in this regard has limits.

**** Facebook. They are just as bad. They do not pass on to ads the IDFA or the GAID which is used to measure campaigns and control frequency so people don’t see too many ads from one advertiser. They want it they won’t pass it

Everybody read this article and educate yourself:

Apple grandfathered in their own Advertising Network. And YES Apple does have an Advertising Network. Apple cares about user privacy as long as it doesn't affect their bottom line. Open your eyes and your mind a little. Gotta step away from the whole "Apple is good, everyone else is bad" group think.

To limit the number of popups much appreciated if devs stops using the Facebook SDKs. Please guys. For the idiots (sorry) who prefer the login by Facebook feature, make something else.

Apple's advertising revenue is currently around $2B a year. Experts are saying it could grow to $11B in four years. So still Facebook is the only company making revenue off of advertising? Apple is worth over $2 trillion, sells high value electronics and still runs an advertising network which brings in billions a year in revenue.

I have a small business as a side job. When I post on Facebook from my business page Facebooks algorithms are setup so basically no one ever sees it, even if they have liked my page. They made this change a few years ago as a HUGE money grab. Don't even get me started on the way they treat small businesses on Instagram.
Let me guess than they remind you that you can "boost" the visibility of your post if you pay them.

In the screenshot, it shows the option "Ask App Not to Track".

I don't want to "ask" the app not to track, I simply want to "Deny" the app the request to track.

Will that also be an option?

How can we have facts about Apple? They are the least transparent company in the history of the world. No one really knows exactly what Apple is tracking. And since the new regulations won't affect Apple's Ad platform we probably never will.
Do you have any link that has some information on Apple's Ad platform? The last thing I remember was that they shut down iAd. When did they start to go back in the ad business?

"If we don't, they will block Facebook from the App Store...”

One can only dream. Facebook is a disease.

This.

Facebook is a cancer. It destroys relationships, families, friendships.

It has zero redeeming qualities except to make Zuckerberg richer. People of all political stripes equally hate it, and it's destroying human relations like anything in the past 500 years.

The world is better off with crack cocaine. Given the choice, I would eradicate FB...
