I am disappointed but not surprised that people are responding as they are (slamming Facebook for their apparent hypocrisy). It is the obvious way to respond. I don't believe that Facebook's primary reason for the ad has to do Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Do people really think that Facebook thinks they can convince people to side with them over Apple?

Advertising ruined the internet. I still remember the old days when people freaked out over the introduction of banner ads. The internet in the 20s is worse than television ever was.

While I applaud Apple for this, Facebook does have an option to win this battle.

They can always just sell themselves to a Chinese parent company like ByteDance (TikTok’s owners) and Apple would probably back off and make an exception for them.

Apple (and pretty much most companies, politicians, Hollywood, etc) are absolutely terrified of messing with China.

Pure lies again from farcebook. Business as usual for them. They simply do not want people to opt-out. This is what happens when your entire business model is built on thievery through subterfuge.

While I want to support local businesses, I also want to keep some privacy.

I also find the attached picture ironic. Probably the most trackers by far I've seen compared to many of the other sites that I've been to.

This is like American Express saying they love small businesses publicly, then proceeding to rip their faces off through exorbitant fees.
Not true anymore. BTW, benefits and top notch customer service is why I prefer Amex.

So I guess we know now that a 90 day old feature works REALLY well 😆

I hope one day Facebook just... disappears...

#DeleteFacebook #DeleteFacebook #DeleteFacebook !!!!!!!!!!!!

Small businesses is one thing, but Facebook allows fraudsters, scammers, conspiracy theorists and cult groups to run ads full of dishonest marketing and false information. It has a profound effect on the minds of susceptible people and fuels extremist beliefs and creates terrible echo chambers. The ads are targeted towards people suffering from depression, or having financial problems, or lonely or of certain political and religious persuasions.

When Facebook stops doing that **** and stops letting crooks and cranks take advantage of people then they can talk.

Until then I support any and every possible move to smash Facebook into pieces.

FaceBook or should I say #HateBook is bad for America. Watch the Social Dilemma on Netflix it's very insightful on how Facebook uses/misuses the data it collects to alter public opinion. Mark Zuckerburg reminds me of the villain Elliot Carver from Tomorrow Never Dies.

What small company relies solely on tracking users to make money? You need a massive user base to be effective. I really hope this pushes the advertising world to a decentralized model similar to the BAT project. I am not against opt in ads and tracking as long as the user knows what is at stake.

For me it's only 7 trackers prevented. Does that mean the remaining 21 went under the radar and are still tracking me?
Depends Brave is only showing 5 blocked for me ublock is over 40 on Macrumors it all comes down to what lists you have enabled and the browser you use. Chrome as an example prevents any adblocker from being 100% effective.

Do they really expect people saying "we are with you Facebook, we want our browsing histories to be tracked so you can make money out of them"?
When you don't pay for the product, YOU are the product. This is why people are more willing to pay a premium for Apple. While Apple does use data for their own research and yes that leads to more money for them, they at least are keeping it much more safe. Rather than selling it to the slimiest , highest bidder.

I can’t decide if Facebook is really this cynical, or it’s just run by the least self-aware people on the planet.

FWIW and IMHO, it seems like any site which offers it's services for "free" operates on the model of building "profiles" of users to serve their clients(the advertisers). Google and Facebook are prime examples.

I wonder what percentage of users of those services know about how those companies make their money.
