They argue that directly targeting users based on collected information is much more cost-effective for small businesses. And that is probably true. BUT, what they don't get is this: We, the consumers, think that the price WE have to pay in return, as in giving up our privacy, is too high! So, it doesn't ****ing matter how much more it will cost you, because the alternative - for many of us - is not an option.
Based on how many monthly active users Facebook and Instagram have I don’t think this is true.

The thing is, Facebook still has all the data on you from your profile, posts, likes... They can still deliver you personalized ads without all the other tracking they do across the web which is what they are complaining about losing access to. This is purely a try to put Apple in a negative light because they will be impacting Facebook’s bottom line.

Thanks. I know what Facebooks real agenda is here, I just didn't want to lose the personalized ads.

Facebook, Google, Twitter etc want to be able to be track and monitor you everywhere on the web and don't like Apple interfering, and they also want to be able to track and monitor EVERY time you use their Diem coin.

Their Diem (used to be Libra) coin is the largest, anti-privacy, anti-freedom, anti-liberty trojan horse ever. The "Diem Association"/"Libra Association" is essentially an unregulated central bank that will monitor EVERY transaction in the ledger, freeze, control, inflate the value away or seize your coins at any point. And it will be ONLY the association who can monitor it. Plus you can bet the governments around the world will want in on the ledger to monitor it.

Goodbye privacy for everything if people take up Diem and if Apple doesn't stand up to them for the privacy of everyone else.

At least with the Fed and other central banks there is some control via a vote so that people know the issues with it. (assuming that Facebook, Google and Twitter allow you to criticize the Diem and don't label it as "fake news" or "disputed").

It is centralized, censorable, blocked at a border, tied to fiat, can be frozen at the whim of whatever government can pressure FB. It might just be that FB not liking what you are posting or disagreeing with you. As the last few years have shown, these huge companies (FB, Twitter, Google etc) are behold to the governments and political parities. Do something they don't like, "well your coins are frozen and you can't move them or cash out." Recourse? None since they aren't regulated banks. Think they are following you now with cookies etc? Soon they'll be able to also track what you spend your coins on. Bitcoin will (one hopes shortly) be helping to increase privacy on chain via taproot and extensions..

It might as well be the Petro or one of the other nonsense coins. Anyone who decides to use this is just asking to be controlled, watched and monitored.

Apple standing up to Facebook in this case is important. If they'd stand up to the authoritarians everywhere around the world that would be a good step also.

I run a small business. Facebook is standing up for me? Wow I feel so honoured!

How will I ever be able to keep paying them more ad money, so they can continue to harvest peoples information.

I ditched Facebook ads years ago. Sorry Facebook nice try.

A lot, I mean A LOT of small business use Facebooks Ad platform which is really really good to find new customers. Facebook is not wrong here they say it will effect small business and their ability to use the Facebook Ad platform to find new customers or sell more product.

This does not just effect small business on Facebook, but Google Ads and every other Publisher network out there.

I personally think this change will end up being a bad idea in the end, a lot of developers will stop making apps because they have no ability to make money from the apps.

I also think just resetting the Advertising ID would have been a better idea. Reset it every 7 days or so and have multiple Ad id's on each device that are given out at random when an Ad is requested.

Facebook is a huge way for local businesses to reach their customers. I don't use Facebook (or Apple products for that matter) but you have to realize that Facebook has nearly replaced Google for a lot of people when they're looking for local businesses.

I am on FB a lot (unfortunately it's where the bulk of my photography groups get together) and I rarely (never??) see local ads. I see a lot of ads on my phone where I don't have them blocked, but they are not local companies. They are often things that have no relevance to me, but they are national companies, not local.

While I want to support local businesses, I also want to keep some privacy.

I also find the attached picture ironic. Probably the most trackers by far I've seen compared to many of the other sites that I've been to.

They need to make money. If you use an ad blocker and don't buy the overpriced Chinese crap they "review" here you'll be fine.

What tool is that? I'm using the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials plugin, and it only sees 2 trackers. I do run PiHole though, so maybe some are blocked before they ever get to my browser... What does that "Trackers on This Webpage" show if you click it?

It's Safari's builtin tracker prevention. Just shows which sites are tracking you.

Can you imagine being a Facebook employee and having to nod along with the premise of that ad? I almost feel bad for those people, and by ‘almost’ I mean not at all.

This is the main reason why I use iOS devices rather then Android, Apple may not be perfect but when it comes to privacy and security they are fantastic and stand up for their users. Android on the other hand is a Google operating system, need I say more?

I deleted my Facebook account over 2 years ago after I caught them listening in on my personal conversations.

I had gone to Walmart and my GF had asked me what deodorant I wanted her to grab for me from the Health and Beauty department. I told her “Gillette Cool Wave”. About two hours later I was at home and opened up Facebook. As I was scrolling down my timeline there was an ad for Gillette Cool Wave deodorant. Now I’ve never once searched the internet for that nor did I have Facebook open on my phone or even running in the background when I was at Walmart earlier that day. So I knew then that they were somehow listening in at all times despite my phone being in my pocket with the screen locked and the app not even opened in the background. F them!

“You’re the product and we need as much info as possible about you to sell you to advertisers.” Its a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for ‘em.

All you have to do is look at Facebook 6 page privacy “nutritional label” to see how invasive and corrupt Facebook is at its core.

Can you imagine being a Facebook employee and having to come up or defend this argument? Anyone of quality should head for the door
They pay well, I'm sure they sleep just fine at night.

Yeah, because if there’s anything Facebook cares about, it’s the success of small businesses. **** Facebook and **** Mark Zuckerberg.

Yeah, I'm all for small business (or any business for that matter surviving), but to make a straw man out of Apple and accuse them of destroying small businesses, while claiming that "it's really for the best of small businesses that we should be able to collect your data and sell it for our profit", is just garbage.

What a joke. Facebook is no great savior of small business. What a gaslighting joke.
Do you want a business?

I personally spent 30k a year on facebook ads and was very successful.
