LOL - What is a full page News Paper ad? Guess that is one way to keep the antique media still going.

I think it is a way to pay off the newspaper editors to attempt to continue to get their editorial support. Of course, President Obama was "the Facebook President"* so with a President Biden, it will be interesting to see how much they protect Facebook.

* e.g. Bernardo Attias, chair and professor: “It’s mainstream. I mean, President Obama is known as the ‘Facebook president’ — that’s how mainstream it is.” ( https://sundial.csun.edu/14163/news...k-now-part-of-mainstream-losing-some-members/ )

While I want to support local businesses, I also want to keep some privacy.

I also find the attached picture ironic. Probably the most trackers by far I've seen compared to many of the other sites that I've been to.

Actually, I'd say you're fortunate...

I personally think this change will end up being a bad idea in the end, a lot of developers will stop making apps because they have no ability to make money from the apps.

I also think just resetting the Advertising ID would have been a better idea. Reset it every 7 days or so and have multiple Ad id's on each device that are given out at random when an Ad is requested.
Developers can still ask people to opt in to tracking. If developers can convince people that the app is worth giving up their privacy, then the developers should be fine. If people don’t want to give up their privacy, developers can still show non personalized ads or charge a fee for ad free experience.

Hulu used to have an option between fewer personalized ads or more non personalized ads. I switched to the ad free version for a higher fee now, so I get neither. All apps should have those three options and the users should be able to decide how much their privacy is worth.

This is the main reason why I use iOS devices rather then Android, Apple may not be perfect but when it comes to privacy and security they are fantastic and stand up for their users. Android on the other hand is a Google operating system, need I say more?

Android without Google is actually safer. You can buy a Google flagship phone and install GrapheneOS. Then use F-droid but then you'll realize the experience is a little limited.

I like iOS. I just don't use iCloud/Siri since I care about privacy.

I have a rooted Android phone.
The most fundamental feature I desire and why I too my phone is ad blocking.

Clearly I'm not who he is trying to appeal to.
It's my data. If you want it, pay me for it!

Good point! I observed this a long time ago. Macrumors is a clever commercial site.

Good point! I have been watching this for a long time. Macrumors is a smart commercial site that does a lot for Google and Android (while presuming to expand a narrowed Apple horizon). There are currently few sites that can actually report in technical depth about Apple and the conceivable possibilities.

To have impudent advertising claims printed in 3 actually serious newspapers should put these newspapers to shame.
They would not have accepted MAGA stuff, so why Facebook

Back in the day 2010-2014 my business use to advertise on Facebook and get actual traction, sales, and viewership. Now when you advertise on Facebook for the same spend, it's like they are using bots to increase the reported numbers and charge me for not getting any traction, sales or viewership. Our small business no longer relies on Facebook to feed us fake advertising numbers while charging us the full amount.

Do you have proof of that?

There's so much wrong with this. FaceBook doesn't give a crap about small business. Anyone who thinks they do is delusional. Second, printed ads in newspapers? They're clearly targeting an older audience who don't understand the Internet or will believe anything FaceBook say. This is so pathetic.

Tip for Facebook: Maybe don’t position yourself as a selfish, evil, immoral company right before trying to move public opinion like this, otherwise people might think you’re just continuing to be soulless, evil and immoral.

Note to Mark Zuckerberg. I don't need a Facebook ad in front of me to support small business. I buy at them all the time. No ad is going to change that. Mark is not as important as he thinks he is.

Well, Apple could bring back web hosting & iWeb (for those with an iCloud account) and enable integrated tools like Apple Pay for customers, etc.
Facebook is pretending to fight for the little guy when they know they forced them into a Faustian bargain by giving them ‘free’ websites & advertising.
Nothing annoys me more than a company whose website is a Facebook page, especially if you need a Facebook account to view it!

From https://freakonomics.com/podcast/advertising-part-2/:
HWANG: A few years back, Procter & Gamble, which is one of the largest advertisers in the world, decided that they would run a little experiment. They were going to take about $200 million of their digital-ad spending and just cut it out of their budget to see what happened.

Procter & Gamble said they were doing this because of concerns over brand safety and the proliferation of bots, which can pollute the data on ad impressions.

HWANG: And the end result was fascinating. Basically, they said that there was no noticeable impact on their bottom line.
