Oh my goodness people are Making a mountain out of a molehil (yes i copied and paste this idiom from google)

Come on people you are wasting your time talking on FaceID Fail. People who agree FaceID fail was a nothing burger don't reply to people who continually arguing that it was a big deal.

[doublepost=1505555596][/doublepost]Or on 3 November when the phone is out and the faceid is working as intended, this thread will be for nothing and erased?

The official line was that the device had been handled by a number of people and the technology had worked in the expected way - it didn't recognise them and subsequently withdrew the FaceID feature in order to protect user data.

My only issue with this is that the 'backup' device didn't perform in this way. It would be safe to assume that both devices were handled in similar ways en route to the stage and should have therefore both protected themselves. This suggests that either one of them may not have been working in the expected manner.

I guess they've got another month and a half to iron out some of the kinks.

Wouldn't say it's safe to assume that.

From seeing the many hands-on videos post-keynote, the safer assumption would be that FaceID works pretty reliably.

that faceid is sscaning almost all the time, even if the lock icon says the phone is locked, if you swipe to enter the iphone it will scan again and unlocked the phone if its you. Very nice thinking, and i love Not to always touch the home button when i need to go to secure notes

Lots of complaints coming from people that haven't actually used it. People said Touch ID would suck and would take WAAAAAAY longer than a passcode and was garbage..... until they actually used it. People complained about AirPods falling out easily until they actually shipped and were shown to stay in very well and without issue.

I guarantee we will see all the competitors adding similar hardware to Apples on their phones to enhance their facial recognition.
[doublepost=1505249830][/doublepost]

That's exactly the case. Just like Touch ID, you have to enter your passcode to enable it the first time after restart.

Problem is, most of not all the competitors already have everything on the X, and then some.

I hear you, in order to keep up they have to provide similar technology within the same time frame and around the same competing price range.
Not come out with wireless charging and face recognition 2-3 years later and for $200-300 more than the other guys.
I think this year they will see a slump in sales compared to previous years. And the 2-3 month wait for the iphone X will be a negative factor.
You want to release and build up on the excitement, the lines and sales craze. Once that window gets stretched out that far and you dont have product to sell while its hot then you'll take a hit.
Just my opinion.

I know. I loved my iPhones but they are now starting to look like fools trying to keep up.

As I think that those using Windows 10
At work or play with a new computer, which has Facial Recognition can back me up. Facial Recognition works 99% of the time!!
And I would think that Apples Facial Recognition is much better than Windows 10 has
The hardest part of Facial Recognition is getting used to it.

I have it and it works well most of the time; the only time it doesn't work well is when I am using my Surface mobile like in bed or anywhere not on a desk. Then it has issues with distances and what not. At a desk and with a PC its not really a huge issue because of how we work with computers but with phones I can see that being a bigger issue. It mostly comes down to the software Apple has made for this which we can't really comment on until it comes out.

I know don't you just love all these Apple Quarterbacks... they know what Apple should do better than Apple does with 200 billion in cash. ...and....and they have to keep up you know... they have to release half baked stuff like Samsung are they are behind the times... Apple playing catch up and well they have failed.. doomed I tell ya.. Steve is turning over in his grave and he would be so embarrassed... These guys are freaking hilarious! LOL

Gotta love the arrogance and stuck up responses.
Sure Apple is too huge to do anything wrong or make any bad decisions.
They are untouchable since they have all these piles of money they're sitting on. What do we poor peasants know voicing anything negative about Apple?
You know who else had the same attitude and approach thinking they're too big to fail and people will just continue to buy whatever they put out?
Research In Motion.
Look where blackberry is today. They failed to compete and thought just because they were huge at one time they will stay on top forever...
Hilarious right?

Comparing Apple to RIM is laughable at best! Apple is far from perfect, (they have made some bad decisions and they have also been wrong at times), but you Apple Quarterbacks have continually with every release talked about this is it.. it's over Apple is finished and then they have another record sales year. Folks such as yourself don't make those decisions general consumers do and they apparently don't feel as you do because they keeping buying what they are selling at record levels. You are free to be as negative as you want but clearly that is falling on deaf ears with most consumers that usually buy Apple products.

I certainly don't think Apple is too big to fail and I don't see anything they are doing that makes me feel they think they are either.. It's always the same with you guys... Apple doesn't innovate anymore.. that died with Steve... Yet their quarterly financial results shows you are wrong! When Apple starts losing money, only then will this topic have any real credibility.

Apple may show up late when it comes to adding certainly features and hardware... but they do get there when they feel the tech is ready and when they do, it's well done. RIM was a no show and unlike Apple they didn't have deep pockets and was losing money hand over fist quarter after quarter and they also didn't have multiple products to generate income. It was a nice try, but no cigar for you. LOL

I'm not a goat like Tom Brady though:D
Just stating my opinion, no company is untouchable by competition and if they don't innovate and compete they will fail.
That's a fact. Only time will tell...
Announcing a so called new iPhone X in September and then taking orders for it in November and probably with no stock till December or later?
Putting out Wireless charging on their devices without selling a wireless charger?
Finally very late to the party offering OLED screens with no stock or supply to make the devices to sell to consumers?
Jacking up the price outrageously high for what seems like a beta rushed out device that wasn't ready to be released.
But they're sitting on billions so it's all good, some are noticing the obvious while others drink the kook aid :D
I hope they learn from these mistakes and improve, I love their products and a supporter of their innovation but I'm not blind;)

Yes, time will tell for Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and the list goes on. But folks have been saying this about Apple for years now and the reality just doesn't bare out that you are right. If you are a consumer then put your money where your mouth or typing is that will have a much bigger impact. It's your opinion that Apple isn't innovating... I disagree along with millions and millions around the world clearly!

If you look at the screen during the keynote the phone needed the passcode to enable faceID.

That's a demo screwup, not a faceID screwup.
That has certainly seem to be the most likely story as all of the events have unfolded and multiple sources have confirmed the snafu of the keynote.

and... exactly how does any of that impact the everyday consumer that have for years stood in lines and ordered online and often times had to deal with waiting weeks if not a month to get the new iPhone.

Consumers don't sit around thinking about, you know Apple doesn't offer a wireless charger and wow they are late to get to the OLED screen party. You know I read today they are having problems getting enough screens and this just upsets me so much. (Really) LOL You maybe a consumer... but clearly you aren't the average consumer that buys Apple products (so I guess that makes all other consumers blind) or perhaps it's just they buy what works for them and all these issues you are bringing up they just don't give two rat turds about!

Jacking up the price in standard fair for Apple... over charging for most of their products has been for many, many years what they have done. They piss me off too with the pricing and outrageous amount they charge for adding memory, but does this mean they are not innovating and/or failing... NO!!!! Look at Apple Care+ its crazy what they charge for that and I don't always buy them.

Apple has for years been a huge supporter of 3rd parties making accessories for their products... so guess what? That is where most will get their charging pads from. I am sure Belkin and all the others appreciate the fact that they get a little piece of the action.

Sitting on billions just means they are financially sound because "WE" consumers continue to buy their products at record levels. It doesn't mean they don't make mistakes and are above making bad decisions... but until you can prove they are going downhill with huge sales declines and loss of money... you are just barking to bark... Honestly I think you are right on in your observation... where we disagree is the impact to Apple in the short or long term.

I appreciate the civil discussion... but back to the real world (Mowing grass, washing cars and laundry).. LOL :)

We are all average end consumers with an opinion that's all.
And you know what they say about opinions, everyone has one:)
Apple is a supporter of 3rd parties accessories as long as they're paying to play what Apple wants for royalties off course ;)
It just seems like a huge lost opportunity because of this rushed out release that they have no Apple wireless charging accessory.
Tons of potential profits lost, most will not wait months to use Apples wireless charging but will pick up that product from another manufacturer.
And so on, what is going on doesn't seem very Apple like judging from past experiences. But we'll see how it all plays out, you suggest that they will continue breaking sales records and sell tons like they always did, I have my doubts about this year that's all;)
I'm with you on the rest, time to get back to real world, NFL games start in a few:) Have a nice evening:)

I have to heavily agree with this guy on these points.
Most importantly ... any iPhone X user that drops their X on the floor crushing the screen is going to be SUPER disappointed no stock for their AppleCare+ warranty replacement. They'll have to make due with an iPhone 8/7/6S in for a few weeks or a month! I can see the threads on this in the USA alone.

Moreover This is going to heavily affect Apple's Fourth Quarter Revenue count and the BIGGEST Revenue month they have ... December holiday shopping! Apple's retail is seriously going to take one for the team right up the cave-hole and the brass is NOT going to be happy about that. Board included.

The pricing is going to kill Apple the most here. I'm curious if the majority of iPhone users (Globally or in N.America) with a 6/6S/7 will upgrade to an 8/X? I'd figure the 7 being cheaper now will get the majority of upgraders cash as wireless charging in the 8 cannot really be used directly with Apple's product (it's not shipping until early 2018) so what's the point?

It's as if Apple is on purpose trying to hurt their revenues this quarter, but why?

If the sales of ALL iPhones drop significantly this will HELP Apple and their customers:
Apple will need to drop the pricing of the iPhone 8 or the X, maybe both by March 2018 if sales are anemic.
Apple will need to invest more in R&D and come out with next years iPhone much sooner and simply the product lineup [iPhone 7, 8, 9 ... a unified 8+X)

The next MacBook Pro mid 2018 will feature this new FaceID I'm sure unless the laptop lids are too thin at the top, they may need to move the camera/sensors to the bottom of the lid bezel like Dell does in their XPS 13.
