When you’ve just touted how reliable FaceID is and it fails the first 3x on stage during the demo.

But it didn't fail, it's like Touch ID after a certain amount of failed attempts it requires a passcode, which is what happened on stage, enough people looked at it while the set was being prepared that it registered them and therefore required a passcode which is exactly what it is designed to do.

Federighi went to his back up phone which unlocked instantly but it was probably so fast you may have missed that.

That black tab is annoying. Can you imagine watching TV with one side of the screen having a black tab? How will movie watching work? Will it block out a part of the movie?

Simple answer is no. The screen under the bezel is a 2:1 ratio which means almost every movie will not even go near the bezel on the side.

Though a lot of films are 2.35:1

Yes the 1:2.39 ratio, I've already addressed that in this post

The 1:1.85 movies butt up to the bezel and the 1:2.39 also butt up to the bezel however it's even more perfect on the X screen, when it butts right up to the bezel both the top and bottom of the move are not affected by the rounded corners.

I was at the Apple store a couple of days ago and there was a customer there that could not get his face ID to work hardly at all. He said he was lucky to get it to work 1 out of 10 times. He showed the Geek how he set it up and the Geek says they have a two phones returned that Face ID did not work. They gave the guy a brand new phone in a retail box and he set it up before leaving the store. Once he set up Face ID, it worked perfectly every time.

So if yours is not working, might let Apple take a look at it.

So we liking Face ID or not?

I'm not sold yet, but it may be a learning curve. ApplePay takes much longer/more motions than TouchID. But the implementation for various login situations is great. On the fence...

Very interesting. These are very complex phones with a lot of very sensitive components. Apparently being assembled by students working OT...so there's room to wonder whether some lower-performing phones get out of the manufacturing facilities?
