I know this is the "Mac.." forum. I am using the IP7+ and wife uses SG S8+; the face unlock on the S8+ is super fast and it works every time.
The new IP8 and iPhone X - meh
I like the new Apple watch and sticking with my IP7+.

That black tab is annoying. Can you imagine watching TV with one side of the screen having a black tab? How will movie watching work? Will it block out a part of the movie?

That's the one thing that stood out to me insanely. Having the black cut-out during movies. That better not happen...

I guess I'd wanna see it in the flesh before really committing to my opinion, but that polished bezel looks very Galaxy like too.

Not a fan

To be fair, face unlock on the S8 works every time with a photo of the owner too - it's easier to be super fast when it's completely insecure.

That said, I'm not convinced apple's solution is fully baked yet. I'm quite happy with Touch ID personally.

Face ID is cool in theory but with touch ID I could pick up the phone and it would be unlocked before I ever looked at it. It is definitely not faster as you have to look at the phone and then swipe up to go to the home screen. I think this is a step backwards when it comes to unlocking your phone.

Face ID isn't going to work at the drive through window when the credit card machine can barley reach the window ledge or its stationary and the cashier can't remove it.

Sunglasses are the issue with me. That's another rather big step and painful for me. And I'm fairly certain you need to look at it without tinted glasses.

Beyond belief.

If you have no issue with this, then you have a health issue, as sunglasses are essential (and good ones).

only thing I cant work out with face ID how do you use it say in a drive thru in your car where you normally stick your phone on the receiver and use touch ID

Have you ever used Apple Pay? You can authorize it with your finger/passcode and then it just sits there waiting for you to put it near the credit card reader. It stays authorized for quite a while, not sure exactly how long. Many times I have it up and authorized waiting for the cashier to finish ringing up my items, then I just place the phone near the reader. Your finger does not have to be on the home button when you place the phone up to the reader. I see no reason why Face ID won't work the same way.

That being said, I'm not sure I buy that Face ID is better than Touch Id. I will be surprised if things like beards or glasses don't mess it up. Things like face masks and scarves are pretty much guaranteed to, and I'm wondering if you are in an accident or something like that were to cause swelling/cuts on your face if that wouldn't mess it up too. Not to mention, I am like many others here, I pull my phone out of my pocket with my thumb on the home button so my phone is already unlocked by the time I am looking at it.

I won't update my phone until next year so I guess I will see what the iPhone Xs ends up using. However, my wife is due for a phone this year, and I am guessing she will probably just get the 8. I'm not sure she will be that impressed with the X to be willing to pay that much more.

For those who refuse to give finger ID, buy the 8 or 8+

Face ID *

Or stay with their existing phones :p

I want a radically new design not just polished bezel glass back vertical cameras and a screen that takes up the front.

The X still feels like an iPhone 6 to me.

I’m gonna reserve that judgment until I see/feel it in person.

I don't watch TV or movies on my iphone.... so for that it doesn't bother me....

It's without a doubt 100% not as fast as touchID. Like you said, and I have posted over and over..the phone starts off in a pocket and by the time you even are ready to see the screen it's unlocked.

The phone is in the hand, fingerprints just work and work well!

Next year it will have Touch ID
