Again with the adapters argument. The only retort you've come up with it is "herp derp well since they ship an SD Card slot adapter that means that it's more likely they'll include it herp derp". While ignoring the fact that they ship video out adapters. All you did was pull a straw man.

Years of design? The iPad isn't even a year old. You mention the headphone jack just to save yourself but guess what? That will also be coming out of the top should you decide to use that like a moron while it's docked. Not everything is designed to be intuitive with the plastic dock Apple ships. Their own damn case doesn't even work with it.

No, it really isn't incredibly low. Apple clearly cared enough to put a video out port on the incredibly low on space first gen MacBook Air for a reason.

OHHHH so I see how it is. Now you are just going to try and twist your way out of this. If the VGA adapters did supposedly get returned then it was because Apple made it limiting and no other reason. Apple has included a video out port on all of their machines for as long as I could remember. SD card slots are relatively new to the Mac but a port for video out has always been there. Why is that?

It COULD be a microphone but unlikely due to how big the opening is in the case. It COULD also be a MDP no matter how hard you try on proving otherwise with your SD card slot defense.

Fix'd based on your criteria.

A few of observations.

A.You seem inexplicably hostile. Why are you so personally offended by his opinion?
B.Your arguments are incredibly weak.Macbook Air has one so iPad will too?Really? So iPad will have a keyboard too then.
C.It's really a hoot!Do continue!

More and more evidence seem to mount up to the reality of the next ipad 2 not having 2048x1536 :(

If they go with 512MB Ram upgrade, and a flash memory size bump with camera, SD card built in, and a larger speaker, I for sure will not upgrade. This will be disappointing year for the iPad when competitors have much better tablets releasing in 2011...

That's exactly what I was thinking!
If they just do their usual small bump updates as in the 3G to 3GS and other products as history has proven, that is just not enough to fight off the all the other tablet devices that are coming.
COME ON APPLE, GIVE US SOMETHING!

2 cameras?, Not enough to buy the coming iPad 2,

I need:

Hardware:
Faster CPU
Faster GPU
More RAM
Better screen resolution to show smooth fonts (Not coming for now)
USB port
SD card port
Giroscope
Reduced bisel
Lighter

Software:
Better multitasking
A C-Obj compiler to code and run iOS native apps
A complete file system managment

If you must have every single one of those things you'll never have an iPad.Some of them are simply excluded due the the concept of what the device is intended to be.(see intro keynote)

I think it depends on the quality of the camera.

Barcode / qr-code scanning would be a useful but that only works well if they don't put in another crappy fix-focus camera.

You could also use the iPad to place offers on eBay. You could enter product information and take the photo instantly with the same device. But again this is only possible if the camera has good quality. (Close up and indoor)

Christian

Or for my needs, take pictures on potential filming locations to use with the app Storyboard Composer. It's brilliant on the iPhone albeit a bit to small. Would be perfect on the iPad.

Neither of those new features on the iPad 2 is going to persuade me to sell my current iPad for the new one. Plus, I have my iPhone 4 for the 3 new features (minus photobooth).

Likewise. Cameras alone are not enough to ditch gen 1 for gen 2. More usable RAM, CPU/GPU upgrades, retina, etc -- different story.

And FaceTime proliferation is great and all, but hell, already got 3 FT-capable devices, the most used and portable of which being the iPhone.

They need to keep a model with no camera at least for use in K-12 schools so that school officials cannot spy on children at home.

Can someone explain to me why Apple uglified the Facetime icon in 4.3? I don't think I've ever had a real problem with a single Apple designed icon, except for this one. What's up with the horrendous textured background? It just doesn't work and fit with the rest of the icons.. seems like someone who just learned how to use photoshop threw it together. It was fine before. I say this as a designer... anyone agree?

I don't want "fun effects" for my iPad. I want professional editing and professional movie editing. I suppose, Apple will probably release iMovie, which can "communicate" to the desktop version of iMovie and has pro features, like greenscreen removal; and iPhoto, which can actually edit photos, separately, for an addition cost.

Also, I don't see anything, apart from case manufacture's guesses, of hints of a rear facing camera - which I would love - as long as it's at least 5mp and at least has 720p vr.

This is good news. Looks like it will be getting a front and rear camera. People might think the rear is stupid, but I think it is actually pretty essential. Every portable device should have one. My only concern is that Apple will nerf it. The thing needs to be at least as good as the iPhone 4s. Hopefully the do something better than VGA for the front camera as well, although I doubt I'd ever use it.

Still, the camera alone won't make me upgrade from my gen 1. I think it would also need a resolution boost (possible, but not likely IMO) and significant processor, RAM, and storage increases (more likely).

I also wish Apple would develop an iOS version of iLife that somehow interfaced with the desktop version. I'm sick of the barebones Photos app and the fact that Apple really hasn't put out any additional software like iWork - which despite being pretty useless due to compatibility issues, are still among the best designed productivity apps on the store.

It seems like on the software side, Apple could really blow open the possibilities of the iPad, but they just aren't doing it.

I think the Camera and the Photos, Photobooth as well as basic photo editing capabilities just like the Photoshop App has should be all in ONE app! Too many icons man..

Plus, I think they should definitely have an option to 'hide' icons and 'folders'..

That's just my opinion :)

There is an option to hide icons. I think you just need to enable "Restrictions" (like parental controls) and indicate which apps are restricted. Simply restrict the ones you don't like. I do this same thing on DishNetwork to get all the channels I will never watch off my program guide.

At last, apples on the right track. Just a few more goodies & I'm in again.:D

After the recent financials announcement I sure hope that is sarcasm when you say "at last apple's on the right track". I would venture to say that in 2010 there was not a better track to be on than the one Apple chose. 14 million iPads in 9 months is insanely good.

My 2 Cents

I'd like Photobooth for the iPhone too.

Cameras are of course a given for this new model - IMO they should have been included in the original one, they were already in the iPhone and the iPod so why leave them out. I think we all know why... "leave them wanting more..." "sell them another one next year..." "bigger margins on high initial component costs..." "lets wait and see if we can sell it first, then add the candy..."

Finally, I think the cutout at the top would be a great place to put an infrared sender, imagine being able to control your TV or Apple TV and loads of other CE stuff with your iPad!

Now you want one again, don't you....

Here is my problem with some things.
I don't want all these different apps which can easily be combined.
It gets worse when putting every app in different folders and try to name them.
Some apps just don't feel right in the folders you already made and one folder for just one app sucks.
Having separated apps and folders all over the UI doesn't really help either because it makes you constantly search for the apps you have. (I've got a lot of apps :) )

Now don't get me wrong iOS is the best UI of all mobile devices out there but that doesn't mean things can't be done better.

Wishes for next iPad would be:

- New case design. (total new design and better grip)
- Build-in mini USB slot. (card reader is nice but USB would be way more useful)
- New battery. (higher specs probably drains the battery a bit more)
- Camera. (rear and front)
- 3G standard. (no more wifi only models)
- Increase in flash memory going from 16/32/64GB > 32/64/128GB
- Increase in RAM from 256MB to 512MB and maybe option for 1GB in the 64/128GB models.
- Faster processors as options (no need for it now with most apps but for professional audio/photo/video applications this would be extremely useful)
- Higher resolution display as options for the 64/128GB models.

On the iOS part:

- Better ways to organize and execute file sharing possibilities.

Where would I wanna use my iPad2 (HD) for in serious situations?
(I know these are possible with the first iPad but they don't work on a professional level in terms of reliability when your in a position were a problem can be fatal.)

- Agenda with way more options which can be synced to Mobile Me (including a big update for Mobile Me)
- New official Apple iChat app which would include Facetime. (keeping it clean and simple)
- Field monitor for camera's. (would be a HUGE deal in the movie business!)
- Controller for music/video/photo applications on the Mac where you can't have problems with latency issues. (new releases of Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio with iOS apps would show that Apple didn't forget those users and is still in the game for some serious ass whoopin)
- The perfect POS (Point of Sale) system for stores that doesn't keep you behind the desk all day long giving you more freedom to do what you good at doing, less administration to worry about and spend more quality time with your clients, customers and family.

Just curious, but why would you want them to get rid of WiFi only models? And what reason would they have for doing that? I read somewhere that around 60% of iPads sold are WiFi only. I wouldn't get 3G as I only use mine at home and I don't want another monthly bill.

First time I've seen this mentions, but I think a built in lighter is a great idea! Would be great for lighting camp fires, cigarettes, etc.

I know it's been said before but there is no way iPad 2 will have retina display. A "Retina Display" on iPad would put the resolution somewhere near 2048 x 1536, which is higher than the current 17" MBP at 1920 x 1200. There is just no technical, economical, or physical way this could be done.

I don't want to go on the record of saying the resolution won't get a slight bump; however, I highly doubt it.

there is, GPU's have been supporting 2600X1600 for many years. I doubt a new GPU can't handle that. Couple it with a dual core CPU and it would also be 2 times faster than this iPad, even though it processes 2 times more at any given time..

Go away, learn to spell, and search.
Just a fact.

Hay, i wuz jst lookn for sum 1 if they new how to hlep me :)
What, are you trying to be bossy on a freaking web forum? Is that where you get you happiness for the day? After I took about 5 minutes to read this thread, I thought I was kind of a computer nerd, but wow... some of you guys take the whole cake. HAHAHAH Which is fine and all, but.. just.. wow. Hav a gr8 day every1 !:D

Interesting speculation about the new iPad 2 by all here. Looking at my behavior as a day 1 iPad 64GB 3G/GPS purchaser, the only feature that would trigger an automatic purchase of whatever the highest end model is, would be a near retina display. My biggest issue with the iPad is reading text on the display. I spend a lot of time at it, but would like the text to be sharper. I'm not saying I won't buy the next version without a better display, but if it has the improved display, it would be automatic at whatever the asking price. This is what leads me to believe Apple might surprise us and do just that. Likely wishful thinking only, but what is life without dreaming a little?

Not saying that resolution can't be supported - but just not on iPad. You could throw a GPU and dual core in there that could support it but I think that would run the price up substantially and may, well, melt your iPad.

Is use of the front-facing camera going to be limited to using Apple's FaceTime? I personally find the front-facing camera on the iPhone 4 useless since many of my friends don't have an iPhone 4.

If it was possible to use something like Skype video on the iPad using the front-facing camera that would be very cool.
