IMHO, no higher resolution screen (not retina, just higher resolution) - lame upgrade.

I think iPad 2 having camera(s) was proven multiple times already.

Hummm.... isn't a higher resolution screen higher resolution? I don't get your point? I guess if it's less than a Retina display you're not happy?

Personally, I'd be happy with "higher resolution" and not Retina if it keeps the cost down and keeps the battery life. That is where Apple is kicking butt over most of the announced competitors... they're having big issues keep all the bells and whistles going for over 6 hours.

I've been wanting Photobooth on an iOS device too. Looks great!

Everyone will be disappointed

No matter what Apple brings out because the rumors said retina display and when it does not materialize it will be the end of the world. Luckily, normal people who buy most this stuff don't follow rumors so they will be happy.

I can't wait to use facetime on a portable device. I call my brother from my computer to his phone and it is pretty cool that he can walk around, point the camera at any friend, ect.

I expect the cameras will be the same as the Ipod, not the high quality ones like the iPhone.

Kudos.

I for one shall be buying an iPad 2, whatever features it has. Retina display won't happen I bet (battery). Of course Facetime/Skype/whatever you want to call it as a concept, must be integrated in the next revision of the iPad for it to remain competitive. It's not going to be revolutionary, just evolutionary (of course they could have put it in the first iPad but marketing said no).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Pretty much an obvious addition.

High res screen and the game is over, Apple wins.

Of course, that depends on what price tag that would put on the iPad (and what it would do to the battery) ... Maybe as an 'option' - but guess Apple would not want to put too many versions out (fragmentation) ....

ne1 know how?

That takes the cake for the worst post I have ever seen here.

Anyhow, I'm thrilled for the next iPad. This is the perfect device for my parents. No learning, no keyboard full of buttons besides the letters, and when you're done with one thing, hit the Home button and / or just hit the Sleep button. Then, it's always just there when you need it. One button to Wake.

Actually, they're sort of excited about technology for the first time. I explained the iOS as task / home / new task / back home. One button functionality. That's the kind of device that people want when they don't need all those extra pretty features us nerds want.

Including a camera, they can take pictures of the family and events. They can FaceTime chat with me when they want. Then, all they need to worry about is when to charge it. I keep getting excited over and over again that the touch interface of the iOS is just perfect for the previous generation, even if we don't always think about it.

Anyone noticed, that the calendar icon on this shot shows a "9"?

My iPad shows a "27" in the preferences, as iPad 1 was introduced January 27th 2010.
So my guess, iPad 2 will be introduced February 9th 2011 !!
Cute find.

If I was making a list of possible 'dates of interest' it would like this: [most to least likely]
Feb 9th (Wed): iOS 4.3 releases the day before iPhone 4 on Verizon ships, 4.3 is required for personal hot-spot, a promised feature
April 9th (Sat): iPad 2 ships to customers
March 9th (Wed): iPad 2 announced, pre-orders open

2 cameras?, Not enough to buy the coming iPad 2,

I need:

Hardware:
Faster CPU
Faster GPU
More RAM
Better screen resolution to show smooth fonts (Not coming for now)
USB port
SD card port
Giroscope
Reduced bisel
Lighter

Software:
Better multitasking
A C-Obj compiler to code and run iOS native apps
A complete file system managment

My Wish List

Retina display
5MP front and rear camera
1gb ram
128gb storage
dual core processor
Better speaker.
Proper Safari (not this mobile rubbish)

Here is my problem with some things.
I don't want all these different apps which can easily be combined.
It gets worse when putting every app in different folders and try to name them.
Some apps just don't feel right in the folders you already made and one folder for just one app sucks.
Having separated apps and folders all over the UI doesn't really help either because it makes you constantly search for the apps you have. (I've got a lot of apps :) )

Now don't get me wrong iOS is the best UI of all mobile devices out there but that doesn't mean things can't be done better.

Wishes for next iPad would be:

- New case design. (total new design and better grip)
- Build-in mini USB slot. (card reader is nice but USB would be way more useful)
- New battery. (higher specs probably drains the battery a bit more)
- Camera. (rear and front)
- 3G standard. (no more wifi only models)
- Increase in flash memory going from 16/32/64GB > 32/64/128GB
- Increase in RAM from 256MB to 512MB and maybe option for 1GB in the 64/128GB models.
- Faster processors as options (no need for it now with most apps but for professional audio/photo/video applications this would be extremely useful)
- Higher resolution display as options for the 64/128GB models.

On the iOS part:

- Better ways to organize and execute file sharing possibilities.

Where would I wanna use my iPad2 (HD) for in serious situations?
(I know these are possible with the first iPad but they don't work on a professional level in terms of reliability when your in a position were a problem can be fatal.)

- Agenda with way more options which can be synced to Mobile Me (including a big update for Mobile Me)
- New official Apple iChat app which would include Facetime. (keeping it clean and simple)
- Field monitor for camera's. (would be a HUGE deal in the movie business!)
- Controller for music/video/photo applications on the Mac where you can't have problems with latency issues. (new releases of Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio with iOS apps would show that Apple didn't forget those users and is still in the game for some serious ass whoopin)
- The perfect POS (Point of Sale) system for stores that doesn't keep you behind the desk all day long giving you more freedom to do what you good at doing, less administration to worry about and spend more quality time with your clients, customers and family.

I can only imagine how traumatizing it must be when they accidentally open it and see letters and numbers they don't understand. Those poor children.

Teaching moment missed.

All to often parents shield their children from what
can be learned about money.

Pick a stock that kids would know, say DISNEY and tell them what is happening, how to follow it,
ask questions etc.

Can't start early enough to teach about $$$.

Great now more people can take silly pictures and post them on Facebook to show off they have an apple product:rolleyes:, it's all Good news though.

A front facing camera and a little better resolution and I may be there on release day but I still don't see the need for a rear facing camera on an almost 10" device! Call me Crazy

As written many times, you can use it to scan something and yes, there is an app for that

FaceTime should've been on iPad 1. Now we get it on iPad 2. Better resolution should be on iPad 2. Now we will get it on iPad 3.

Apple Gift Cards don't expire. I'll just wait for iPad 3.

That would be for coffee shop stalkers or law enforcement officers undercover recording a deal for evidence but pretending to enter their suspects drug order on their Mac.

How about two rear facing cameras for 3D? Add it to the iPhone, have a walk-and-text app that preserves depth perception as well as forward visibility!

next generation ipad

Wonder if they'll lower the price of the current base model to 400 and then have this new iPad be the top of the line. A guy like me will get the new one and pass the other on to a loved one who will become an addict. The Hand me Down Upgrade!

Is it just me, or is the status bar different? It looks grey/solid. I would like a solid status bar on the iPad(like on iPhone)
