9to5mac is speculating that the iPad 2 will be announced on February 9. This is based on the fact that the current iPad Calendar App icon has 27 on it, and it was announced January 27.

That might mean something, except the current iPad calendar also has a 9 on it. (iOS 4.2.1)

hmm, mine shows "20" - probably due to the fact that this is the current date (but I run 4.3b1)

It's not the actual calendar date.

Go to Settings -> Wallpaper. Look at the preview wallpaper image.

Neither of those new features on the iPad 2 is going to persuade me to sell my current iPad for the new one. Plus, I have my iPhone 4 for the 3 new features (minus photobooth).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I bet the iPad 2 will ship with 4.3 and will get 5 when the iPhone 5 ships.

Except your wrong. You CAN apply filters in photobooth for the Mac.

Yes

That takes the cake for the worst post I have ever seen here.

Anyhow, I'm thrilled for the next iPad. This is the perfect device for my parents. No learning, no keyboard full of buttons besides the letters, and when you're done with one thing, hit the Home button and / or just hit the Sleep button. Then, it's always just there when you need it. One button to Wake.

Actually, they're sort of excited about technology for the first time. I explained the iOS as task / home / new task / back home. One button functionality. That's the kind of device that people want when they don't need all those extra pretty features us nerds want.

Including a camera, they can take pictures of the family and events. They can FaceTime chat with me when they want. Then, all they need to worry about is when to charge it. I keep getting excited over and over again that the touch interface of the iOS is just perfect for the previous generation, even if we don't always think about it.

Exactly. For my 78 year old mom, this will be perfect. She never uses her desktop at her house because it takes 10 minutes to boot up and also is confusing for her to use. Having an iPad will allow instant on and easy to understand access to email and pictures.

I also envision using Facetime to allow her to see her grandchildren's recitals and ballgames, real time, while she is sitting at home 2 hours away. FTW!

God, I hope so!

Well, as soon as Apple announces the availability date (and it does have a camera) I'll be selling my current one that day to get enough for a new one.

alternatives to retina display

I agree with some other posters that a retina display seems unlikely at this point (as much as I'd love one).

But the prevalence of rumors regarding the display makes me think they're going to change something about it. Is it possible they're going to do something easier like add a non-glossy option making it a better ereader?

I have both relatives and relatives of friends with computers like you describe. My parents' generation is the generation of "don't replace it or throw it out if it still works"... Some of those computers I've seen (and had the misfortune of trying to maintain) are just sooo slowwwww.

They keep those old slow computers because they still work, and the speed doesn't matter because they weren't raised with instant gratification. The iPad will be a real treat for those people.

Communicating with the family - for free over Wifi and FaceTime specifically - is possibly the most valuable thing for family. Especially those you want to help that you may not see all that often.

2 cameras?, Not enough to buy the coming iPad 2,

I need:

Hardware:
Faster CPU
Faster GPU
More RAM
Better screen resolution to show smooth fonts (Not coming for now)
USB port
SD card port
Giroscope
Reduced bisel
Lighter

Software:
Better multitasking
A C-Obj compiler to code and run iOS native apps
A complete file system managment

Well, buy a Macbook!

My prediction:
Same 1024x768 display
Front and rear camera
512 MB of RAM
Faster CPU and GPU
Better speaker
Won't launch with iOS 5

Possibly a Mini-display port and SD Card slot.

You really went out on a limb there!

I will be disappointed if it doesn't have a "Retina" display! After having an iPhone 4, looking at the current iPad screen is just not ideal! :(

Thats what I thought!

P.S. I am SOOOOO TIRED of hearing people say, FaceTime, but we're not sure about a back camera. These people simply don't understand Apple PERIOD! So let me explain............. A BACK CAMERA IS PART OF FACETIME!!! Part of the experience is flipping the camera around, that is one of the main highlight features of FaceTime. If there is FaceTime there will be TWO cameras PERIOD! Apple will not deliver a partial user experience! You'd think MacRumors would get that  And that's not even to mention the potential a back camera has with apps using that as functionality, AR, etc.!

Agreed.Seem obvious to me too.
Of course then people point out that Facetime on the Mac uses only one camera, but since that's an entirely different device it's not much of an argument.
