Windows 8.1 - Support dropped 2014. *BEFORE* many people (including their corporate customers) can successfully update to 8.1 SP1.

The service pack is the support.

Windows 8.1 customers cannot complain they're not getting bug fixes, if they won't install the bug fixes.

Windows XP has just been getting patches, that new software support is by 3rd party developers. XP is stuck on Windows Media Player 11, IE 8, and DOES NOT have support for Office 2013, so I don't know how you have it. Mac OS X Tiger is just 1 version of OSX, the version of Windows XP (SP2) that was out back then had support dropped in 2010.
You're right, I meant Office 2010. But my point still stands. No matter what way you attempt to spin it, no matter what date it went on to 'extended' support or what which service pack you need to remain in active support, Microsoft are far superior at supporting their older software than Apple.

Reports show although it may be running faster, its still no where near as fast as ios 6 is.

You must be out of your mind if you think an almost 4 year old device would run the latest/more advanced OS as fast as the old one or as fast as the latest device!! And having all the new features of the latest iOS on a 4 year old device? I can only assume you are not being serious!

I have read lot's of your comment's and man you have such a hate for Apple! Nothing wrong with that I guess, but I wouldn't waste my time in a site that is mostly Apple fan based if I was you.

Thanks for your input, I hadn't noticed this before. Yep, it all just works, 100% of the time. As every Apple product ever has -- people never encounter issues with technological devices. There have never been problems, and this is the first. Ever.

So you saw all the Get a mac ads!!! ;)

PCs suck, but this could be the very first apple issue, ever!!! Hence the shock from posters, apple products are magic and they just work. I'm insulted u call them technological devices, ever since the iPad they have become magical devices.

Just a bit of humour mate ;)

Wonder how popular FaceTime is.

It would have so much more potential if Apple opened it up. I'm in a situation that I never use it as I have friends and family across multiple platforms. In my situation Skype is a much better solution.

Hope they sort it ASAP for the people at use it.

Haha, all you people mocking those who stayed on iOS 6, as if you think FACETIME will change our minds. You really haven't thought this through. Even if iCloud stopped working, I'd still use it. I'll be using iOS 6 when your iPhones are all dead, thrown away because they can't run iOS 10. You can enjoy your flat design, but it's not for me.

I just had a thought....

Apple is a company that wants their users to run the latest yes ?

What would be the reason to force people... ? Exactly this..

Cause something that people use everyday to have issues.... People get all cheesed off and upgrade..

So that's how Apple like to play it..

If Apple really wanted people to stick with iOS 6, then their would be an only augment that "all software as bugs", but Apple wouldn't you to run iOS6,,, why wouldn't they deliberately do this ?

Apple's own solution is just to upgrade.... so this this makes perfect sense, otherwise they would offer a fix.

Subaru has an ad campaign here in the US that touts their safety record. The newest commercial shows a totaled out Subaru SUV, and the cop, followed by the wrecker driver, followed by the junkyard owner all use the phrase, "They lived." The point of the commercial is that a Subaru is supposedly a very safe automobile. Does this mean that, in your eyes Subaru should not be able to tout their relative safety if anyone has ever died while driving one?

Why do people love comparing cars to phones! Your example dosent work. Cars crash because of user error. Although I can see one point, if Steve Jobs was still around he would some how make this out be user error!

was that for the iPhone 4 or the later iPhones? I felt the pinch on my iPhone 4, but when I got my 5S those times were no longer the case.

That chart was for ios 7 on iPhone 4.

----------

My guess is the number of iOS users that would want to downgrade is small enough it's not worth Apple's (and developers) trouble to support multiple OS's. My point about Android is its amusing that we make fun of the fact the latest OS is on so few devices but then at the same time complain because Apple won't let us downgrade to an older version of iOS.

Thats because the two OS work differently. All major apps get updated in Android via the app store. You only see major updates with Apple when they upgrade the software.

Even then you still run the risk of not receiving all major features.

You went to all this trouble searching for, and uploading that image, just to launch a cheap shot at Apple ….. wow ….. my various Apple equipment generally speaking, works very well, with a lot less headache than the stuff I used before, but keep in mind that no tech is going to work flawlessly all the time.

Took 2 seconds to find the image on Google and the same amount of time to upload it. How is pointing out a fact having a cheap shot?

I have no hate for Apple, im just not blinded by the fanatical loyalty some people show.

So often on here we hear the expression "Well my 4 year old phone has received the latest software, the dosent happen with Android" - But with the latest upgrade your not getting all the features AND your phone will run slower. So why not allow people to decide what software version they want to run.

It gives people something to bitch about on the internet.

That might be true for some, but the only person I know on iOS 6 seems to genuinely prefer it. She doesn't need the new features/changes of iOS 7. And, she doesn't go to online forums to whine about it, either. She just decided she'd stick with an iPhone 5 on iOS 6 as continue to use it "as is" for a few years.

I think the discouraging part, for both her and I, is the notion that a feature was removed. In my mind and probably many others, there's always been an idea that if you don't upgrade, you're left using old sw/hw, but you don't have anything taken away. People used Snow Leopard years after it was released, but Apple didn't unexpectedly prevent Mail or Address Book from working without warning.

I would still be surprised if this was intentional.

What's the big deal with updating to iOS 7? If your device supports it update!

They give updates for a reason though. Would you stick with a old car that was breaking down or upgrade to a better car if it was given to you?

It's because there are still millions of people using iPhone 4 and iOS 7 runs like a snail on them. I think it's reasonable to use an OS that's several orders of magnitude more smooth and faster, right?

iOS 7 runs pretty smooth on the iPhone 4. It actually speeds it up significantly.

----------

Umm, cars sometimes crash due to design flaw or mechanical failure, my friend.

Technically the "comparison" does work if you're using it in a general sense instead of being technical. Just keep your phone updated (the moral).

FaceTime isn't working on iOS 7 in Sweden right now. We've tried it on Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE on iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s and iPad as well as iMac and MBP running the latest Mavericks.

I do not get it. In one hand you guys do not understand why people want keep iOS 6 on their older devices and call everyone to update to latest and greatest OS even though it will run slow on older devices. Then you guys also do not understand why people complain slowness when they do update. You guys complain in both ways, makes me wonder the only right way is forcing everyone buy the latest and greatest iPhone or iPad....

Updates are meant for you to *update*. Simple as that. On every iPhone 4 I've seen iOS 7 doesn't run AS FAST AS THE NEWEST TECHNOLOGY but it gives it a boost. ALSO, it depends on what the user has on their phone - that has something to do with the "slowness" of their device. Apple does want you to buy the latest and greatest, but some people cannot afford it. Still updates are meant to *UPDATE*... Old software brings more bugs because they are focusing on UPDATING the newer software.

I'd feel better knowing that there was some underlying technical issue why FT on iOS6 was broken. And, if it is a technical issue, it should be communicated in advance - a good way to recommend remaining users prepare to upgrade to iOS 7 in advance. And, if it was was broken intentionally, I do think that's not good for customers.

I don't think anyone is denying that upgrading to the latest OS in inevitable, but I think the issue is and the lack of communication.

If AT&T somehow stopped supporting FaceTime for iOS 6 users, wouldn't those users also have a right to be upset?

This probably isn't worth fussing over any longer. Have a good day everyone. :)

People still use FaceTime frequently?

Hmm

Interesting

I use it 2-3 hours per week to chat with my 2 friends and parents. Living 1,200 miles away - you miss a lot of things and voice only doesn't show the complete picture.

What is iOS 6?

the next generation of iOS

Apple assumes a 2 year cycle on phones and a 5 year cycle on Macs. It loves the customers who buy phones every 1 year and a Mac every 2-3 years.

The old OS wasn't breaking down though.

It's more of - do you want a car with heated seats (2009 model) or heated and cooled seats (2012 model).

While I don't want FT to be cross platform - Apple shouldn't support multiple platforms. I wish they would kill iTunes for PC as it was a nightmare when I used to work at the Apple store.

Instead, use an iSight camera that's tied with Apple TV - so you can FT in the living room, on the go with your iDevice, or at your desk on your iMac.
