Well, that is the last time those guys work with Apple. I hope they had fun.
Unless Apple asked them to "leak" those details. Hmmm. Maybe.
Quick, better uninstall Camino, Adium, Open Office, Quicksilver...Safari too, since Webkit (the underlying engine that actually does the work) is free software. Not sure what's so hard to understand about free software. People write software for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes to sell, to learn, to solve their own little problem. Many of these people have 'real' jobs writing software that can be mundane or boring so they turn to free software to do something creative. Without free software OS X, and software in general would not exist today.

God...i really hope i haven't ruined this guys chances of working with Apple![]()
Apple, allow for 802.1x authentication in 1.1.4! It's ridiculous that I can't use my college's great network. Either build it in, or allow for a 3rd party app to do it because it is a serious oversight.
Ever heard of Open Source?
Besides, not everything has to be a "biz model"...

Yeah, as the guy above said: Not your fault, his.
If it wasn't intentional. Nothing would surprise me.
I suppose it would have been found sooner or later.....
Actually, you have it backwards. 'Paid' for software, is the basis for most/all of today's software (free and paid for). All of today's OSs/languages/software can trace their original development costs to the Billions (if not Trillions) of tax dollars spent via the military/universities/NASA in computer/hardware/software research over the past 60+ years. Not counting the Billions of dollars in Business investments in universities/labs/etc research.
Sure, some software today is developed 'free', people do contribute their labor for other reasons besides monetary gain as you stated. But someone is always directly/indirectly paying for their time.
Nothing is really free, it just might not have cost you anything (directly).
Don't get me wrong (my disclaimer before I start) OpenSource has a place, but ultimately people like to get paid. Yeah it's nice to do program as a hobby or develop some apps because you want to see if they would work, but eventually you have to pay bills.
Now as a developer I have two routes I can follow. I can make money by developing for a platform I like (such as the iPhone) creating the apps that I like and quit my boring job writing boring code. Or I can be a 9 to 5'er patching someone else's code and wishing I could be doing my own thing.
I know many people who have contribute and still do contribute to various Open Source projects and they all say the same thing, "I wish I could quit my day job and work on this fulltime!"
Yet, before Apple even announces their plans for 3rd party iPhone apps, they're being bashed and made to look like big brother!
And speaking of Big Brother, if it wasn't for IBM taking on and defeating SCO in court, one of the most popular Open Source projects would be dead in the water.
Can't wait!!! I will gladly pay $ for well written apps distributed on iTunes.
Oooh, Ultima Online! Or maybe a remake of Neverwinter Nights (the original AOL version)!
I'd like to see some suggested "top five wanted apps" or "top five expected apps", on this thread. I sense my eyes can be opened wider to the possibilities. I know some smart developers will surprise us with can't-do-without killer apps we hadn't even thought about. But what are people here wanting? Expecting? Thanks.
I HATE lawyers and all they try to stand for because in the end they don't care about anyone but their fat pockets!!!
My guess is that iphone 2.0.0 will be released right along a new hardware release... our iphones will probably never see iphone software update 2.0.0

App to control Airtunes speakers (stream music from the iPhone to the speakers).
i cannot believe you are suggesting this: this is exactly the sort of thing i hope for! or a good port of exult, but don't that happening
Yeah, EVERYBODY hates lawyers...
...until they need one.![]()
What I'd personally like to see
1. Skype-like VoIP app
2. Mobile versions of iMovie 08, iPhoto, (quickly edit photos video captured on the iPhone to send to Flickr, .Mac Web Gallery and YouTube)
3. Remote control app for Apple TV
