Oh just stop crying return the phone and get an android.

to continue my analogy... I've invested too much time and effort in this wife... there's a 9 month old baby in the next room right now and i've spent too much of my money on her. The only reason why I can't go android now is because I've invested too much $ in the stupid apple ecosystem. My music would take forever to rip and I would have to pay for my apps all over again.

Is it possible that there are lots of people out there with working phones ? My phone works great, I have no issues with signal drop, dropped calls, green spots or whatever.

You cannot assume that all the iPhone 4's out there are not working. Keep in mind that out of the 1.7 million that were sold, there is only a small number of people that are complaining.

Is it just me or is anyone else sick to the back teeth of the blatant fanboyism towards anything Apple? These idiots are helping to prevent what are essentially good satisfactory products becoming great ones by accepting anything faulty Apple releases as acceptable and useable, and whatever Mr Jobs says as gospel.

This has been perfectly illustrated this week with the release of the iPhone 4. Where, believe it or not, Apple have actually designed, developed, mass produced, and released to the general public a telecommunication device that cannot telecommunicate, especially when held in a certain manner. However instead of, as any genuinely concerned company would do, initiating an immediate mass recall and refund, Apple and their fanboys are telling us that, yet again, the problem lies with the user, not the device. So it has now been left to the consumer to adapt and change their most natural telephone posture.

Again maybe it is just me but whenever I spend over £600 on a new shiny electrical device I expect it to 'just work'.

Thumbs down to fanboyism.

Get a iPhone 3GS

Like I said, this isn't some nitpick. This isn't a screen that's too warm or a stuck pixel or speaker 10db too quiet. It's a phone that can't complete a call under reasonable circumstances.

But that's your definition of reasonable, not apples. I have to believe the phone is working how they want it to, thus you got what you paid for. That's the beauty of apple. They make a product, control every aspect of it, and you purchase it and use it in the way that they intend. If you want to deviate from that path, go to windows. I'd believe if it was 3 or 4 of these having a manufacturing defect, that it was a problem.. but it seems like they're all acting the same way, so they can't be broken. They are what they are, and we should be grateful for the fact that this technology exists and we're able to purchase it.

Apple is a way of life, you have to give yourself over to the zen of it and stop stressing out over things you can't control.

It's not up to Apple to define what working phone means. It could be - if they specified in the User Manual that IN ORDER TO USE YOUR PHONE YOU HAVE TO HOLD IT THE WAY STEVE JOBS TOLD YOU TO. But there is no such claim in the manual hence people have certain expectations (i.e. that the phone will be working just like any other phone on the market - regardless of how you hold it).

...
my wife was good looking and cool when i met her when i was 17. when she was 25, she was 20 lbs heavier and stopped cooking dinner every night. when i made love to her at night, i just turned off the lights and pictured her in her old glory. now, she's 180 lbs and yells at me for spending all of our money on electronics.... anyway, the lesson here is apple is now 20 lbs overweight and all you ****ers don't realize what can happen. if you choose to just close your eyes and hope for the best, you'll wake up one day and hate yourself for not keeping the bitch in check when you could.

Whereas, you're still quite the catch?

Completing a call that the previous generation phone can complete, regardless of how it's held, is absolutely reasonable to all parties.

Based on the topic/title of this thread, I'd hazard to say that Apple is ruining itself just fine, thank you very much.

The fanboys just seem to accelerate the process, to some small degree. ;)

Whether you believe it or not, for some people it does just work.

My wife and I aren't experiencing any problems with our phones.

I'm probably more tired of the irrational over-the-top complainers.

+1

To the OP: Apple fanboyism actually doesn't even exist. Sure there may be a few people out there but honestly, look at the comments on sites like Gizmodo, Engadget, or here even.

Its FILLED with Apple haters, and its extremely rare to even see someone hop in and say something otherwise because Apple lovers are completely sick of hearing it.

It's hilarious when I see remarks on tech forums where people do nothing but complain about the fanboys, but I have yet to honestly see a fanboy. All I see is people complaining about them.

While that's great that your phones are working, how should people handle the situation if their's don't work.

Clearly if I bought an iPhone that stopped working if I held it in my left hand, I'd be upset. How is that irrational or over the top? I mean we're talking about a $400+ phone that can't be held in your left hand (for many people).

Then there's news reports of the proximity sensor being an issue as well.

Apple's response to the antenna issue is only adding fuel to the fire, I mean telling people its not a problem, hold the phone differently or other phones suffer from this are not the best responses in dealing with the problem and will only inflame the situation.

If I was experiencing problems, I'd make Apple aware of the it in a polite manner through their tech support channel. I'd either patiently wait for a fix or be the first one in the return line before my 14 days was over. I'd then calmly relate my experience with the probem here on MacRumors.

I wouldn't post over and over about a recall, design flaws, deception, demands, or feel entitled to any compensation other than a refund of my money when I return the phone. Like I said, I'd be the first one in the return line if my phone didn't work. I'm not a loyal enough customer of any company to hang on to a product that doesn't work.

I guess that's just me.

Thanks for letting us know how you'd react. We really don't care. The important thing is that a forum is open to anyone who wants to vent their frustration in their own way.

Just skip the posting if it ain't your style.

Oh they're out there, no denying this. There's fanboys for everything.

Everything!

Sorry but Diabolic is right. There's no need for people to get huffy and childish over something so stupid.

If it doesn't work right, return it. Apple/ATT both have return policies.

Another lecture!

Let me explain: I love Apple products and just want this phone to work. By publicly posting our frustrations, we better our chances of getting Apple's attention. We are working the problem to get them to work the problem.

I don't want to return the phone if I still have cards to play. Stop lecturing me on how I should deal with Apple in a public forum!

I just answered a question that specifically asked how I thought people should react.

It's just a phone.

I don't get all the complaining, yes I have the signal dropping, but if apple designed it into the product like everyone says, then I'm getting what I paid for.
As long as my iPhone is within factory specifications, I see no reason to return it. It is as apple intended it to be, if they want to change that, I'll do whatever they tell me to update it.

The simple truth is:
1) Apple is the best.
2) Apple makes the best phones.
3) I need a phone.

I don't even look at phones that aren't iphones anymore, and since they only make this one, and the one I used to have.. I might as well get the new one. Even if it drops calls, it can't drop more calls than a non-apple phone. People aren't lining up to buy phones that aren't made by apple, because they aren't the best.

All other phones aren't as good, so there is no reason to complain. I'll use my phone for this year, and next year I'll buy whatever new thing they come out with.

Do you want the one with bigger GBs? :D

I could not agree more.

The sad fact, is that it's Apple screw up this time around. And it's a big one.

There is indisputable evidence that Apple got it wrong, and that has all the fanboys crushed. Their reaction is one of anger, disappointment and embarrassment because the very company that they adore has gone so wrong.

Some fanboys will recover, some will not, such is life.

I have used apple products over 15 years. but I am not fanboy or anything closed. there is very obvious fact that I have been discovered so far. Apple seems to test their first products by scarifying our use. then they correct some faulty design or software issues. I had few times that laptops were bad. they were all the first models. it's simple to me before buying Apple product. don't buy the first model no matter what it is. you have to wait until Apple will fix or redesign after. more likely revision models are usually safe. iphone 4 is not exceptional. exterior antenna design is not new at all. telecommunication companies already had tried that. but they found that the result was really unexpected in terms of hardware and health issue. exterior antenna could harm your brain. I am serious here. yeah, iphone 4 looks great. but again it got design flaw. but Steve doesn't want to admit it just like not adapting Blu-Ray for macs. they are stubborn somehow. I don't like that attitude.

by the way, who can explain that little bumper is $30? that's totally rip-off. yeah, it's all about business (more likely money). now. Apple has been changed to greedy mind. the company is next MS for different area. everything has the end. Apple won't continue to make surprise or hit the record forever. especially after Steve Jobs would be gone. Apple won't have a bright future. Apple is Steve Jobs. none of other seem to have that kind of strong charisma. it's sad. the company could be getting back to the similar situation in 1990s. who knows? you can't just judge I am wrong because Apple has been really well since 2001? it's only 9 years. very recent success is only less than 4 years. MS has been successful over 20 years. it can't be still compared. in terms of market strategy, Apple seems to bring certain number how many or much they have sold. but it's still nothing. for example, netbooks have been sold over 300 millions so far. ipad? not even closed yet. in worldwide, actuall mac or iphone or ipod whatever market is still very small. it's only a big thing in US.
