This argument assumes that the majority of Americans care what the rest of the world thinks. I do not believe that is the case. The rest of the world had to be scratching their heads, wondering, "how did we ever let ourselves trust such a crazy Government like the US" which allows a single person to completely upend the trade relationships between the largest economy in the world and every other nation. Now, we know the truth. That single person never had the authority in the first place, but like so many things Trump, he just assumed he had it, or didn't care that he didn't. He's a criminal, after all. Lines don't matter to him.
Now, I am sure they are asking, how could the most powerful country in the world be so stupid they'd elect someone who is so stupid he thought he could destroy their own economy and the world economy just because he said so?
Also, from prior rulings by SCOTUS, POTUS believes he has total power now and that anything he does while in office he can't be punished for. Laws Shmaws, he says.SCOTUS has an easy sideways slide on this one. As pointed out by the lower court panel (two of whom are Republicans), the law cited by Trump does not give the Executive Branch (Trump or anyone else) to impose Tariffs. It doesn't even mention Tariffs. All SCOTUS needs to say in affirming this decision is, "if Congress intended to give this power to the executive, it could have included the word "Tariff" or "import tax or duties" in the law cited by the President and it did not. So, if the executive branch believes it needs this power, it can now go to Congress and ask for it. Whether Congress has the right to grant this authority is a question we need not address in this case."
I wanted to both Love this and Laugh at this comment, because both are so very very true...A man with literal golden toilets would.
Pretty disingenuous to use the $4000 number when you consider it's the most maxed out phone you could buy but don't let that stop a sensational headline for clicks.
Nothing is that special even at the current price. That's not a tariff problem that's a problem of Apple just running the same device through the small incremental upgrade path each year and trying to sell it off as something special. The iPhone is saved by the contract payoff plans by carriers. I would love to see what the price would be if no one would be able to finance the phone. It really doesn't matter what model. No phone, of any flavor or configuration, is worth anything near that..but if you actually read was posted, MacRumors states "$1,599 to more than $4,300" Even at that, $1600 is too much for a base model lowest config.
iPhones just aren't that special.

Why is nobody reporting that the tariff are also because Tim did not attend Trumps invitation to Dubai?
Absolutely spot on. It seems what he has ordered is illegal, either in principle or execution. But it will take the courts a while to catchup and block it all. And then the appeals....The rest of the world had to be scratching their heads, wondering, "how did we ever let ourselves trust such a crazy Government like the US" which allows a single person to completely upend the trade relationships between the largest economy in the world and every other nation. The New York Times did. 🤷♂️Why is nobody reporting that the tariff are also because Tim did not attend Trumps invitation to Dubai?
In order to avoid the tariffs, the whole supply chain would have to be in the United States… That’s the chips fabs, all the parts being made here… It’s not just robots, kid. Apple speculated that it would take 10 years to get the whole thing (supply chain) up and running, and cost in the hundreds of billions.I would pay $4k for a USA-made iPhone. Make Pros is America… I don’t even live there but would pay it over the current slave labor in China. And how would it cost $4k anyways… Robots do most of the work…

Who said the democratic party was extreme left? Not me? Ignoring that both sides have extremes and making your own statement to refute something I didn't even say may say something about you too 0_0If you think the Democratic party is extreme left, then you are on the right, not the center. On the political spectrum, Republicans are currently far right and Democrats are Center Right to Center Left. The progressive wing is on the left (not far left). Normalizing what is happening on the far right through bothsidesism is why we are slipping from democracy into an authoritarian state.

That was a different tariff. It's hard to keep up, because he threatens a dozen new tariffs everyday. Here is his exact quote:Trump also said Samsung would get the same tariff increase, and no one from that company was invited.
“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” the President wrote. “If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank your for your attention to this matter!”
That’s the thing, some people can buy Chinese slave labor with tariffs and some of us can buy US made goods for more money. I tried this over 30 years ago when some things could still be bought that weren’t made by slaves in China. Not the case anymore.I'm out on any $4k iPhones, no matter where they are made.
(Yes, even a new Mini. $4k is way too much)

Fair enough.Who said the democratic party was extreme left? Not me?
But you're still trying to bothsides the issue. The far right currently controls the Republican Party. The far left doesn't have any power in the Democratic Party. The Center does. The left (Democratic Socialists - Bernie, AOC) have some influence.Ignoring that both sides have extremes and making your own statement to refute something I didn't even say may say something about you too 0_0

Understandable, but my reply was more focused on the guy saying half the country was brainwashed. Not necessarily this tariff issue. We need better politicians, but thats impossible. Anyone whose not in someone else's pocket stands no chance.Fair enough.

I'm certainly not ignoring that a far left exists, it simply has no political power.
