im confused...there is significant improvements.

he is not getting them....then he is doing somthing wrong.

simple.

if you dont like it....return it....wait...you cant...

As helpful as ever.

Someone probably didn't read the reviews. The majority of them already stated that there was nothing groundbreaking in Snow Leopard and there was really no need to upgrade from Leopard unless you really wanted to or you don't mind putting down the cash as it was only about $40 (CDN). Right now Snow Leopard is a bit of a premature OS in terms of what was introduced and applications not being able to take advantage of it until developers program around it. So yes, right now it might seem to be a "waste", but wait a few months from now, I'm pretty sure things will be much better.

spring cleaning and speed

I don't know if its removal of printer drivers, powerPC code, or file compression, but my computer had over 900,000 files in Leopard, and after upgrading to Snow Leopard, it has around 750,000 files. These changes don't impact my use of the computer, but I'm also noticing speed improvements in nearly every basic task that I do on the computer. That alone is worth $30 to me.

one more thing...

Another benefit of Snow Leopard comes from third party developers. Some updates don't just provide Snow Leopard compatability, but have added new features at no cost to us. For example, Orbicule's Undercover update for SL can now use Core Location features to help track down your Mac if it's ever stolen. Very cool.

someone really is going to complain about THIRTY DOLLARS? ...wow. I know the economy is bad, but really now? /facepalm

The purpose of SL is that it improves what already exists under the hood. It also is the building foundation for what Apple has plans for the next os. Thirty bucks well spent :apple:

Just because $30 is nothing to you doesn't mean it is to others.

I can see why some people would be disappointed by Snow Leopard, because to the untrained eye it looks much the same, however, I think that over the next few months it will shine.

I have noticed a few weird things happening with it though. For instance, sometimes all of my applications will be hidden, and I have to click on the icons to bring them to the front, even though they are not minimised... has anyone else seen this?

You purchased the wrong version. You were suppose to purchase OS X Cheetah not Snow Leopard. Everyone knows that snow slows you down... especially when you're driving.

I remember from last October into the spring I and others often asked the question what the point was of the new Macbook Pro's having relatively good GPU's, and having two of them instead of one. Most of us don't need heavy graphics capabilities on a laptop. The fanboys on Macrumors were hollering that the real reason would only become apparent once SL was released, since it would utilize the GPU's to speed up applications by a lot. Basically, I can't remember any other major thing being touted as upcoming feature than this, using GPU's for running apps.

Didn't happen.

Of course I'm upgrading, indeed $30 isn't a lot, though I would have paid $100 if I could finally use my MBP's GPU's for something sensible like actual work, and if I were able to switch between them for god's sake.

How is this false or wrong? You're right, it didn't happen...yet. Whoever thinks that everything would just speed up when Snow Leopard is and was terribly misinformed. Many know that the application needs to be developed so right now it might not seem like anything but a few months down the road when developers start to become familiar with it, then we will see.

I don't know when Apple introduced these...the latest thing I got was the iPhone 3G and I don't even remember if it came with stickers (probably did but I had no use for them).

But the ones included in the leopard box have a larger white surface area resulting in a thinner translucent line on the outside, if that makes sense.

I guess It would make whatever you've stuck it on look a tad less cheezy. They look alot better than the old ones though.

Ah! Thanks for the info!

I can't say I'm all that impressed with SL either. It really doesn't feel any faster than 10.5 did and most of the new "features" are things I won't use. I have no use for drawing chinese characters on my trackpad, and I can't even remember the last time I used video chat. I do however miss AppleTalk which IS a feature I still use daily. Anyhow, I guess if I had paid any more for SL I would have been really mad. For $30 I guess it really doesn't matter. Seems like we all got worked up about nothing to me.

i dont see any difference in snow

i got macbook pro 2.8 uni it took 45 secs to boot up before snow and 47secs with snow

only reason y i got it for boot up times and speed and it feels exactly the same ,did we get scammed?

Wow,really?

Really???

I shouldn't have expected more from this place.

Right, but then there was never a reason to claim that these changes - the OS making use of the graphics card - would be introduced with SL. One could have just said that they will "at some point in the future" be introduced. Those changes, once introduced, will have nothing to do with SL anymore.

I'm going to make the bold claim that over 50% of people who've bought any of the Macbook Pro's have never needed to use their 9600 cards up to this point. In that sense it's a waste to put these cards on board. If I would have known that I had to wait for an unforeseeable time, and longer than for SL, until I'd be able to use them, and Apple would have offered a $100 cheaper version of the Pro without the card, I would have bought it (hope I got all those commas right, english is not my first language ;-)).

And note that I'm not thinking about external applications here, just about things like iPhoto, iMovie, etc. AFAIK these have become a tad faster because of better utilization of parallel CPU's, but not GPU's, where the real future of the game lies...
