Coming from a 7+ which was working perfectly to the 11 with T Mobile offering $350 trade in, I could not resist.
Plus T mobile finances the remaining $350 into 24 months at 0% interest.
$15/month for the phone was the deal of the century!

Comparing my other Xs Max and 7, the WiFi6 is the biggest feature to me - with super high network speeds (100Mbps) available at home and work but then gets slow with WiFi which chokes the bandwidth, using a wider WiFi stream(s) with WiFi6 will help with speed on the phone/tablet/Macbook end for me.

I had a similar feeling when I went to collect my iPhone 11 Pro Max 512gb. When I went to the Apple Store to collect my order, I tested the phone out. I felt it was not worth to upgrade my phone this year.

I cancelled my order and have decided to wait for the 5G model next year which will have a new form factor and pencil support, too. That will be a big upgrade.

I know it is fun to upgrade to a new iPhone and watch every year, but this year Apple has not done much for me to spend another US $2000 for a new phone and watch.

I will surely do so next year without hesitation.

My carrier even offered me a special deal because my 2 year contract is ending soon. I requested the, to work out a plan in which I can get that deal next year. Don’t mind getting a free iPhone 12 Max, next year. He he!

Any have to miss out with the fun this year.
Just to be clear you have no idea what next years model will have and are just setting yourself up for disappointment. There are no valid rumors about next years models. It’s all baseless speculation and guessing.

Why did you buy one then? You are correct. The plateau is there and i agree.

I have also been in the Apple Store yesterday and i looked at the new phones in person for the first time (Space Gray Pro or Silver Pro looks the best btw IMO) and i came to realize that it's the same thing as the Xs / Xs Max, just with an improved camera system. Better phones yes, i mean atleast they kept the same pricing as last year, and the 11 got 50$ cheaper compared with the Xr's pricing last year.

It's just a revision of last year, an updated version. If you like them, you should get the Pro (Max) over the Xs (Max) and the 11 over the Xr. But not if you already have a Xs Max / Xr, or even X.

Well if you have the X, the Max is rather nice because of the larger screen. I know, many like smaller phones, but me? I definitely prefer the larger variant. X to Xs that's almost the same phone.

I have the 8 Plus 256 GB, my phone isn't even 1 year old. I bought it last year to replace my 3 year old 6s and i had to decide between the 8 Plus or Xr and 8 Plus won. Xr: No 3D Touch, no optical zoom, and the display is sub 1080p (but it doesn't matter because it still looks very decent. I'm impressed with Apple's 828p LCD).

I definitely want many features on my phone, which is why i got the 8 Plus last year (had a 6s before that, and a 5s before that), but i do not need the latest improvements straight-away. The biggest factor is, that the improvements have gotten minor over the last years. Especially when you consider the pricing. 11 has an OK price, and this phone is definitely a decent one and it will be more than enough for the average consumer.

All the new iPhones are nice, sure. But they don't really interest me. Especially not for that pricing of the Pro line.

Do i need the all-screen? Nope.
Do i need OLED? Nope. The 1080p LCD on the 8+ with 3D Touch, wide-color gamut and True Tone is fine and looks good.

Would i like an all-screen 6.5" phone? Yes of course. But not for that price. And my current iPhone was also very expensive and it's not even 1 year old.

A couple things i miss with my 8 Plus, like a Night Mode for the Camera. Or the Portrait Mode for the Front Facing Camera (X and Xr/11 also has that).

But other than that, i am happy with the 8 Plus. I also thought that i would value the ultra-wide angle lens more than a telephoto one now, but after playing around with the 0.5x camera yesterday i definitely like the 2x optical zoom more. I'd wish Apple would give us a 3x or 5x optical zoom lens. For me, it just makes more sense to zoom into something, rather than zooming out of something if you have an optical zoom lens.

The 8 (Plus) (or X) are still so amazing. If i had too much money laying around and i had no idea what to do with it, yes sure i would get the Pro Max. But that's not the case and i don't even care anymore.

The 8 Plus is far from being outdated, just because it has huge bezels or a home button. (Oh, and i also love the Taptic Engine of the 8 Plus, the feedback is so nice).

You have a 14-day return window, even when you already unboxed your phone. Return it. If you really like to upgrade your iPhone this year - get the 11 and be happy. I would do the same.

I am a huge fan of Apple. 6 years ago i watched my first Apple September Keynote live in 2013. I walked into the Apple Store a week later and i looked at the newly released 5s. Man, i wanted that phone. I was sold at the moment i picked it up and i held it in my hands. I got one a couple months later. Sure, they were like 649$ unlocked for the 16 GB, not 999$/1099$, and i only had an iPod touch back then (i was only 16) and i just wanted an iPhone after gaining interest in Apple and their products. But back then Apple had their magic still. Even in 2013.

And now? I leave the store and i say: "Cool phones, but nothing i need." They don't excite me anymore.
Perfectly sums up how I feel. Went from the Max to the 8 Plus last week. I miss the extra vertical screen real estate. And that's about it. These current phones (and rumored features of 2020 iPhones) do nothing for me. I would need a folding iPhone to shell out big bucks again. Until then, I'll happily use cheaper large screen iPhones until that day, if it ever comes.

What was the thing you expected from the 11 Pro?

Anyone into tech knows this year knows the 11 Pro is just about the 3rd camera. Chip wise the 11 Pro is dated on release and it's not that people notice much difference with chips anyway unless coming from a much older phone. Apps open a little faster maybe, big deal. People upgrading are either coming from a much older device, or stuck in an upgrade loop sadly.

iOS13 and Apple Arcade do the heavy lifting this year, but you'll get that on any iPhone.
How is the 11 pro dated chip wise?

When the 8 and the X came out, I opted to go to the 8 instead. After a few days, I took it back and got the X. For me, the X was such a massive upgrade from the 6/6s/7 and 8 so I have no idea how someone can think the newest line up isn’t a massive upgrade. But, to each his/her own.

People need to stop and realize that the less expensive phones are available at lower prices because much of the tech has been funded by people who purchased the higher end phones in previous years. If you don’t want to be an early adopter, then don’t and be fine with what you buy. NO one was ‘ripped off’ here. Next year’s 2nd tier phone will likely be better than this year’s. We can play that game all week long and conclude that we should still be using the star-tac flip phone.

I bought the 11 Pro in midnight green yesterday. It’s 256GB just like my iPhone 8.

Anyway, I feel ripped off and thinking about returning it. It’s more than twice the price, but it’s not twice the phone. I was honestly looking forward to this purchase. I thought that I would be satisfied, but I’m not.

In fact, I hardly notice a difference between the two phones in terms of usefulness. The OLED is a little better, but I honestly don’t notice it. I feel that my iPhone 8 is still plenty good and fast with iOS 13. I don’t play games and I feel that I don’t need the better internal specs.

Battery life on the 11 Pro is better. That’s the only advantage that I see. Otherwise, the Pro is just too bulky and heavy. I feel that the 8 is the perfect size for one hand use.

It just feels like the latest and greatest doesn’t offer anything particularly worthy of an upgrade, especially at $600 more.

I’ve seen plenty of posts about how smartphones have reached a plateau and now I finally understand what that means.

Apple has a 14 day money back guarantee, just return it and don’t stress out. You bought a new phone only 2 years removed from when yours launched, of course it isn’t going to change your world.

Every year it’s the same threads over and over and over again. Either you like you’re purchase or you don’t. No need to come on here and blame apple. Just return it and call it day. Done deal. Regardless whatever you say won’t convince me not to upgrade every year. I make a good living. I’m a tech guy. I upgrade every year. Oh well. Pro Max this year for me is a good upgrade. Better camera (night mode) is always a plus for me. Kids growing up. Vacations. Awards ceremonies. No need to worry about stage being too dark or having to back away to get entire stage pic. Also battery is awesome. I use my iPhone for for work purposes. So it’s a plus. Less focus on battery life now.

Nah, I know that’s the PC thing now. I don’t have a right to feel assaulted if I wasn’t assaulted. OP doesn’t have the right to feel ripped off. Simple.

Oh, really?

So I don’t have the right to feel ripped off? - And what happens if I “violate” your proposed law?

I feel ripped off. Hence why I’m returning the phone. Sue me.

The slang term "ripped off" denotes being deceived and taken advantage of. That did not happen to you. Apple published the stats and there have been plenty of pre-order reviews.

The phone not meeting your approval or needs versus what you had, does not equate to you being "ripped off."

Return the phone. Problem solved.

But I do feel that I have been deceived and taken advantage of. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have spent time buying the phone and returning it.

To be ‘ripped off’ would require that you were mislead. What did Apple misrepresent about the phone that can’t be explained by the likelihood that you were simply caught up in the hype of the phone?

Personally, I’m thrilled with mine. I like the performance, enjoy the camera, love the color and am impressed with the screen. And I paid what I knew it was going to cost.

You keep using the word “being” ripped off. I clearly said that’s how I “feel”.

And yes, I was mislead. Which is why I bought the phone in the first place. Apple generates the hype. Falling for it and feeling disappointed is clearly their fault.

It’s like any other tech or even non tech product in the world. The last little bit of improvements cost the most. It will almost never be worth it to buy the absolute best. We shouldn’t be using worth so much here. If you are looking for a value, you won’t find it buying the best of the best.

Yea, really. I cannot make law so you’re not violating anything accept basic common sense. Just informing you of your ridiculousness. Return the phone, decide it did not provide enough value for the cost for you and move on with a different direction.

Being ripped off is a definable thing, ‘feeling’ ripped off should require actually ‘being’ ripped off.

I’m not sure the Pro is worth the premium over the 11 personally. I’ll evaluate and decide what to do. Simple stuff as a consumer really.

I was interested until I spent about half hour in store using a pro max next to my 6S Plus for the same tasks. The larger screen is pointless for most things as the extra length is practically useless. OLED is great, but barely noticeable unless it's dark. The camera quality was not night and day difference. Low light performance is better, but night mode seems to be mostly just a typical Apple re-branding of something mundane... extended shutter and some shadow push.

I walked out extremely disappointed. It was in no reasonable way $1200 in incremental value over my current 6S Plus, which had its battery replaced a year ago. If the phone was somewhat ready for the next four years, with 5G, two way charging, etc., I'd probably feel differently.

Normally we expect tech to become cheaper over time but the opposite has happened with high-end smartphones (especially the iPhone) and high-end PCs (especially the MacBook Pro / Mac Pro). It's understandable the OP expected more of an improvement considering what these things cost.

$1,250 for a 256 GB iPhone 11 Pro Max and I simply couldn't justify that, not even with a four-year-old iPhone 6s Plus.

Come on, let’s be real. You didn’t get “ripped off.” You got exactly what you paid for.

Now, maybe you have buyer’s remorse! That happens. Fortunately there’s a return policy.

There’s plenty of people that feel the new phone is worth it. There’s plenty of people that stick with their current phone.

So you don’t ‘think’ you were ripped off, you just ‘feel’ ripped off even though you know you weren’t and just needed to post about it?

To each his own, I suppose. I just wouldn’t ‘feel’ ripped off if I got what I knew I was buying.

Those who’ve had several iPhones over the years know exactly what they’re getting.
Either a upgrade in specs or a different form factor a new color or camera.
So you know what you’re getting before you buy.

I knew that getting in getting the Pro Max that I was getting a bit of a upgrade of my XS Max. I wasn’t expecting a life changing experience or some great upgrade I was expecting what I get whenever I upgrade a iPhone( see above). I also really wanted Midnight Green.

This feeling of being ripped off is the result of creating a false narrative in ones mind. The expectation of what you think it should be and not what it is.
