This is the transition I recently made. I never used FaceID/had an OLED screen before, so the upgrade was significant for me. I tend to upgrade every two years, as I feel that that way you see a real difference between the models. Personally think upgrading every year is silly, and individuals won’t see much of a difference. But I also understand that it’s nice to have the latest and greatest.

Yeah, it's pretty fun when the user experience is a major change. I do the same, wait a couple of years so I really feel the impact of the new device - going from a pre-OLED/FID device to an X/XS/Pro is pretty shocking (in the best possible way).

Maybe the 6S Plus can't compete on metrics, but metrics only matter in so much as they do something useful, and using both phones side-by-side for typical phone tasks, there was very little difference.
I have both. Massive difference on even just basic stuff.

Sounds more like you have a problem with impulse control and have a spending habit that causes buyers remorse once the shoppers high wears off.

The reason I upgraded was for the ultrawide and the rest is gravy. With trade in this phone cost me what a new prime lens for my dslr would have cost.

So for me it was adding a 3rd prime.

I bought the 11 Pro in midnight green yesterday. It’s 256GB just like my iPhone 8.

Anyway, I feel ripped off and thinking about returning it. It’s more than twice the price, but it’s not twice the phone. I was honestly looking forward to this purchase. I thought that I would be satisfied, but I’m not.

In fact, I hardly notice a difference between the two phones in terms of usefulness. The OLED is a little better, but I honestly don’t notice it. I feel that my iPhone 8 is still plenty good and fast with iOS 13. I don’t play games and I feel that I don’t need the better internal specs.

Battery life on the 11 Pro is better. That’s the only advantage that I see. Otherwise, the Pro is just too bulky and heavy. I feel that the 8 is the perfect size for one hand use.

It just feels like the latest and greatest doesn’t offer anything particularly worthy of an upgrade, especially at $600 more.

I’ve seen plenty of posts about how smartphones have reached a plateau and now I finally understand what that means.

Good to feel correct. The 8 works fine. New stuff is indeed a major rip off. Heavy. Not much better.

And 27% heavier in your pocket. :p

Well, it's a bit heavier, ~24% more actually (5.22oz vs. 6.63oz), ~1.4oz difference, about 7 US quarters. :)

The carrying difference in terms of weight, in a 7 vs. an X is pretty minor (having carried the former at 4.87oz ...), so the 8 should be even more minor-ish. :D

Hmm seems odd, I would never every compare an 8 with an 11 PRO! The Pro has much better batter, screen, amazing, did I say AMAZING camera! And looks cool

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just return it, not start a thread and move one?! LOL!

If your experience is disappointing you can always return it. I traded in a 10XS Max for the 11 pro. I needed a smaller phone and better battery life. Yea, maybe the difference is not as big as it could be, but the screen is sharper to me and I’ve had the X, XR and XS Max and this one has the best battery by far. With my trade in, the price was what I consider reasonable for the latest Iphone. For me this was a definite upgrade.

You could keep your 8 or try the 11 to save some money since it seems you are not interested in the advantages of the pro version. As others have said though, you don’t really have a right to feel ripped off.
My take of what he said was he felt he had been ripped off, and that in my view isn't the same thing as if he had said he "was" ripped off. I agree if he's not happy with his purchase he should return it and keep what he had or replace it with something different.

Ok, I FEEL he was not even remotely close to being ripped off.. that should clear up any confusion. 😁

The problem is that the 11 is even more of a brick (both in dimension and weight) than the 11 Pro when you're coming from the 4.7-inch 8.
True that’s, one thing that helps that the 11 is lighter compared to stainless steel pro.

With any new product release there's potential for fake hype and new product hype. To avoid falling into that trap perhaps wait until release and get actual hands to influence your buying decision instead of buying blind.

Didn’t read the thread, but I can almost guarantee that your definition of ripped off is very different from others’. If you don’t like the phone, return it.

UPS officially lost my phone. It says coming soon. I went to the Rancho Cucamonga store this morning and got a phone. The order has been cancelled. Such an annoying experience
I’m curious how this is relevant to the thread. Maybe you posted in the wrong thread?

I didn’t find it minor at all and returned the X and kept my 7 for another year before getting an 8 earlier this year. Check your denominator. You could say the 8 is ~23% lighter, but the 11 pro is ~27% heavier. :) And the 11 pro is 45.7% heavier and 30.4% bigger than the 6 was. That is more than a bit... people who say it is the same size haven’t held/used them side by side in a while. There is actually a bigger difference between the (6/6s/7/8) and the (X/Xs/11 pro) than there was between the 5s and the 6 (15% in weight and 15% in volume since the 6 was much thinner).. but I digress...

I certainly didn't say it was the same size (including weight), I indicated the size difference. Funny enough I have both an X and a 7 (and couple of Plus models, and a 6 a 5S, etc., I'm a developer/architect, including mobile, so I stockpile a few devices ...) sitting right here and I've had the wife comparing them, she's on deck for a new device, or at least a hand-me-down of my X, and is sensitive to the size (because of how/where she carries it), and was more than happy to swap features for a size increase.

That is actually the point of this thread, that the "minor" spec/feature/functional bump was trivial vs. the size difference - my perspective: it's the other way around, the increase in size is easily worth the incredibly notable increase in all the other specs/features.

Just to be clear you have no idea what next years model will have and are just setting yourself up for disappointment. There are no valid rumors about next years models. It’s all baseless speculation and guessing.
And we should all know by now that the 'next iPhone' never ever lives up to the hype.

My guess is that 2020's iPhone will still use the same form factor as the X/XS/11 and only include 5G and finally get this year's rumored reverse wireless charging, perhaps even some 3D camera AR (I forget the technical name of it).

All this hype about a hardware revision to lose the notch, any in-screen touchID, and USB-C wouldn't be until 2021, is my bet.

You’d be wrong. 5g needs a redesign. The 2019 pro phone is the S year. And Apple didn’t make up with Qualcomm for nothing.

In addition pencil support is coming. iPhone has to be redesigned for it as well. At the very least a flat edge like iPad pro to charge it.

I’d recommend the 11 or even a refurbished XR if Apple sells it.

Makes sense considering the new rumor about the return to an iPhone 4 design. Kind of like how the current iPad pros are a bit more boxy looking.

S generation was 2018 with the XS. So if Apple followed naming convention, 2020 is 11S and Pro S. Otherwise they will have to jump to calling it iphone 12 which they might for a complete redesign.

But while everyone puts their eggs in the total redesign rumors it's not really Tim Cooks style as there is alot of tooling and parts inventory to use going forward since designing the X Series. Look at all the rumors that were circulating for iphone 11 Pro and all we really got was a third camera and bigger battery.

Oh, really?

So I don’t have the right to feel ripped off? - And what happens if I “violate” your proposed law?

I feel ripped off. Hence why I’m returning the phone. Sue me.
Apple didn’t rip off anyone. All the features of the new phones were out there for everyone to know.
