6mins in and already a score, and it was such an easy score!

Well here comes the 2nd, and we are only 11mins in the game.

Absolute masterclass from Brazil. Joga bonito in full effect. They play well without Neymar but the attention he demands from defenders opens up so much of the pitch for the rest of their highly talented attackers.

2nd half was ok, and wasn't as intense as the first half, nonetheless congrats to Brazil (was there any doubt not winning?).

It's through this stage of the competition that you expect to see teams step up a gear. If Croatia do not step up a gear Brazil are going to make them look ordinary and thus an easy win for Brazil. I think the rest of the teams are thankful that two of the favourites are playing each other (England v France).

My god, another intense game from the Spanish and the Morocoons. AHGH!!!

I feel we will see penalties in this game.

I recall quite a few years back when they had the "golden goal" rule during the 2002 World Cup (actually had to look that actual date but I recall the goal) and Senegal eliminated France. I have a friend from there now living in Canada and at the time all the Senegalese living in Geneva went wild. More exciting but also nerve racking as penalties.

The Moroccan community in Spain is huge, if they win, they will be extremely wild.

Well, here we go, penalties time, Grimm, an intense and scary moment for both teams.

Damn, they are playing so strong on both sides, from the Moroccon goalkeeper to the Spanish forward many missed chances.

My head already hurts.

Spain really fooled everyone (at least me) with that WC start.

Still, it was one of those games that the two should have lost.

I have to say that I always hated the "golden goal" rule, - as there is no comeback for the other competing team - whereas penalties place equal stress on both sides, and, in this day and age, I cannot understand that some teams still fail to devote preparation and practice to the taking of penalties.

Penalties, of course, place considerable stress on players as individuals - that is, on the respective penalty takers and the respective keepers - testing their mental strength, their physical skill, their composure as individuals rather than as members of the team - rather than on the team as a whole, which is also an interesting feature of what is normally considered to be a team game.

Penalties are fun if you are a neutral. Not so much if it’s your team.

I’m glad there was at least one upset. I watched the game and thought that for all the possession they had the Spanish never looked convincing in attack. And the Moroccan keeper did an excellent job.

I am speechless.

Big congrats to the Moroccans!!! this is the biggest surprise for the World Cup knockout stages.
Possession 77% to 23%

Shots 13 to 6

Corners 9 to 0

Can't score a goal and can't score a penalty?

If I'm Spain I'm burning those baby blue pajama tops. Clearly unlucky. ;)

Congrats to Morocco!

Gonçalo Ramos.

From the same factory that brought you Bernardo Silva, João Félix, João Cancelo and Rúben Dias.

The guy that replaced Ronaldo in the starting XI and scored a hat trick. Man Utd plays far more fluid and dangerous attacking football without Ronaldo, and so do Portugal. Kind of nice to see all that attacking talent not being held back anymore.
