Without cheating I thought I would give this challenge a go and you know what?, I am upset with myself because I did watch the womens European championship which England won which meant it was impossible to not see all the media postings about the game but can I remember any of the female players from ANY of the teams I watched? can i heck :( and I watched the games!!!!. But give me men's national teams and I can name a number of players from different nations!!!.

Challenge failed lol
Thank you for your honesty 😂

At any rate, the US soccer federation did a great job in understanding that women’s soccer would pick up, however the fact that the USWNT in eight editions won the same amount of cups (4) as men’s Italy, Germany and more than Argentina, England, France, Spain in twenty-two editions indicates how uneven the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament actually is.

I recently watched a discussion on that precise topic. The men follow the money and the money is in football, basketball, and baseball. One of the commentators said soccer is filed with our worst athletes. 😆

The thing is, I don’t think you need the same attributes for soccer that you do for the other sports. For basketball you need to be over six feet tall, otherwise you can go home. For baseball you need great eyes and great coordination. For American Football you need to be big and athletic.

Soccer players don’t need to be huge, or have great hand-eye coordination. They just need great ball control with their feet and a good sense of team strategy. I am sure there are lots of good soccer players in the US who don’t get picked up by the sports development system there.

I think scouting and academies make more sense to develop the talent than trying to shoehorn soccer into the university system, where there aren’t the grants because the clubs and other donors aren’t rich enough.

MLS has now 29 teams, stadiums are getting full, and money is now coming in. In addition, the deal with Liga MX will allow American players to play with more advanced teams on a routine basis. 2022 MLS was leaps ahead of 2012 MLS, which was already leaps ahead of 2003 MLS (I could barely watch it). In addition, Apple is pouring billions into MLS. I think that 2032 MLS will be among the top three in the world. The only downside of MLS is that due to the federations system (UEFA, Comenbol, CONCACAF etc), MLS teams will get little play in important tournaments.

Here is a little snippet from the BBC website which was following the game

'The Netherlands have beaten African champions Senegal, Asian champions Qatar and North American champions USA at this World Cup.

Next up, South American champions Argentina.'

a very interesting observation made by the BBC :)
Now they are ready to beat the Euro champions :p

Oh wait

I only watch soccer during the World Cup and find their agility and skills amazing. Plus there’s no better fans in my opinion than soccer fans. The same show I mentioned said soccer is boring. To be frank, soccer is boring to me outside the World Cup but during the Cup I could not disagree more with those guys.

Just watched USA v. Netherlands.

Congrats to the Dutch. They looked surgical while the USA, who played hard and got some chances, were playing like barbers.

Props to Pulisic for putting up a good fight. He was clearly slowed by his injury and will be one sore boy in the morning.

The poor marking by Adams, Dest and Robinson that directly led to goals was very disappointing, especially when you consider how well the trio played in the tournament.

All-in-all, a step in the right direction for the US men. A focus on adding some skill up top and the center backs to replace Ream and Zimmerman and I think you can reasonably envision a competitive side in four years with top eight aspirations.

Favorite comment of the match: "I don't think anyone had a Zimmerman bicycle kick in the box on their Bingo card." I sure didn't :)

No one is talking about the French v Polish game today, not many fans. lol

1 - 0 so far to the French.

I guess the excitement is more toward the England v Senegal game later on.

Poland can win this......France is cat mousing them as Argentina did vs the Aussies.

I need to post a foto of a Kit-Jersey I purchased in 1985 one of these days here.

I don't totally agree with that. In athletics the US has some of the best and there is certainly no money in Athletics. The Spectators don't even bother. i remember during the 2012 olympics in London it was impossible to get tickets in the UK and i was able to purchase tickets for multiple events using a US contact with no problems.

Well here is the 3rd goal lol.

We face the same ticket allotment issues here in the states at the NCAAs. Some teams follow and others don’t. It’s exponentially worse with international competition like World Championships and especially the Olympics. The cost to attend is prohibitive.

I never enjoy an England knockout game. I’m always too nervous. Especially at 0-0.
Yes, always nerve-racking when I watch England play, we have a policy in our work to play on such occasion (WC) only, if England is eliminated from the WC and we have a work day the following day, everyone gets a day off work, so there isn't much stress and negativity the next day.

Ok, please England, keep it at 1 - 0 and qualify, please? I don't want to give a day off!!

I’m just listening to the commentary (and the drums) but it seems so far Senegal is getting marginally the more dangerous chances. Ahum and then England score, 1-0 to the English. But I thought it was very poor goalkeeping by Mendy.

Still hoping for an upset one of these days, Australia really put the pressure on Argentina last night and it produced excitement and drama.

YES YES YES!!! 2!!! Henderso does it again!

Sorry, snap! it was Kane, how the hell I missed that!

Ya, England is qualified for the next stage, I can calm down now knowing this.

France is going to be a tough ask. Especially in defence.
Can we just enjoy the moment for now? and leave that part until later day? :p

Joke aside, yes they will probably have a tough play with the French, but again, England has shown a strong play in this WC.

England looked good, but Senegal lacked the players to trouble them. I think Stones and Maguire will find it more difficult to deal with the likes of Mbappé, Giroud and Dembele. Should be a good match.
