Enjoyed that as a neutral. Penalties are great when it’s not your team! Feel sorry for the Dutch. Their free kick was pure genius.
Agree.

And agree, too, that penalties are terrific fun when you are a neutral and it is not your team; however, when it is your team, it is gnaw nails time, and peer through trembling fingers at the screen.

I don't know who is English here or supports the nation but
you might understand this thought:

I woke up several minutes ago
the first thing I thought of was
imagine if Dele Alli was the same Dele All who was unstoppable in 2019?
Him, Kane, Mount and Rashford or Sterling would make a great attack.

then I realized it was 5:15 AM and I should get up.

That was my very thought when seeing a penalty kick. Its great fun, if you don't have any "skin in the game" But if you're a fan for the kicker, its awesome, and if you're a fan of the other team, its a travesty.

Being an American, watching what is largely a wildly popular non-american game, its engrossing how things play out. The flopping is interesting (the NBA does the same thing)

But I find it interesting to see a player fall to the ground crying out in agony, and the ref's ignore him, the game keeps going and then he gets up and starts playing, lol

US sports are not immune and I always enjoyed this comparison.

Argentina looked awful last night in terms of sportsmanship. Really didn’t want them to win and hope Croatia smash them in the semi’s.
Both teams are to blame honestly, it was like a fight club, pushing, kicking etc, not the sportsmanship I would have liked to see, and that fight they got into in the middle of the match, I mean, what was the point of that?

Bad winners.

Sad the way they behaved, was that really necessary?

Just to clarify a situation and how the mainstream media found a target du jour

there is bad blood between these Argenitne and Dutch since 1988.
and
who know what the Dutch would done if the won,
because they had not won against argentina since 1988!

the Ref change the game by slowing down the pace after the 70min
with the stoppages and explaining everything ruined the flow, some say on purpose.
3 times Argentina had a free kick that was taken then that was stopped
which never happens in real football on planet earth,

anyways
im not complaining or "winching" as Sandor Clegane- would say
I'm just stating an over-look fact these football pundits are missing.
they are showing messi calling a report a fool
while he compliments the planet during the entire interview.

we are feed daily garbage by the media way too much, for no reason just to cause hatred among us.

well enjoy the 2 matches today, football fans!

The Dutch were egregiously trying to throw the Argentinians off from their penalties. Dumfries got two yellow cards during the shootout. Argentina's behavior was poor, but it was definitely not one way traffic.

In other, far more shocking news, Grant Wahl passed away suddenly while covering the match. I'd followed him since his early days at Sports Illustrated when he covered college basketball. He really was one of the good guys. A tremendous loss for American soccer and sports journalism in general.

I’ve read about it, terrible loss for the world of soccer in the US. Almost as depressing are all the conspiracy theories that immediately started, but that’s a topic for another day.

I am getting fed up of all the Portuguese players trying to get a penalty. ref should either assign a penalty or issue a yellow card.

I am not a supporter of Argentina but I disagree. The ref lost control of the game completely. I agee that the Arg player should not have kicked the ball into the Subs but they were already invading the field because of the foul. The team has to be responsible for its subs staying off the field and on the bench.

I think it is also going to be more interesting to avoid an all European Final.
