Surprising that Costa Rica managed a 1-0 win against Japan in that group’s other game. It wasn’t a very good game, Japan were the better side but gave away a goal with a couple of mistakes in the penalty area. Now if Germany win against Spain that whole group will be on 3 pts and anyone could go through. The last two group games will be Costa Rica v Germany and Japan v Spain.

Unfortunately, they (the US) were the better team in the second half, too.

Their lack of finishing did for them.
What is obvious from this world cup is there are very different styles of playing the game. The France/DENMARK game yesterday was a perfect example of the EURO-Game. The South American game is very different and what is emerging is what i will call the CONCACAF game as exemplified by Canada and the USA. This version of the game is fast paced with a lot of running onto the opposing player and forcing them to play. A fair number of foul plays which would not be tolerated by a European referee. What is also evident with this style is that both USA and Canada run out of steam in the latter part of the game because of burn out.

Croatia is showing real skill and class. Canada is no match for this. This could have a lot more goals in it.

I mean, what a turnaround for Croatia, but I have to give credit where credit is due to the Canadians, they are showing some skills.

🇨🇷 🕺🏼

Unexpected, but will take it.

Lose 7-0, then beat the team that beat Germany.

Crazy, but fun.

Canada looked so much more poised in the qualifying matches I watched.

I guess a side like Croatia can do that to you.

Unforgettable (Roger Milla!), played in my then hometown, but it was just one or two surprise games. Virtually all the other games went as expected. I see some quality play from weaker teams this year.

Those Cameroonians came out of nowhere. Villagers with no money, no famous trainers, no oil rich sheikhs to back them or even bribe opposing players (as can happen in this sport). I’ll never forget the way everyone reacted to the Cameroon matches that year. Feels like yesterday.

Agreed. Even Higuita made the bad mistake of doing one of his crazy exits with them… and dearly paid for it.

Some impressive play but finding the tournament boring so far. It doesn’t have a World Cup vibe.
Maybe my standards are a bit low, but I'm finding it to be a pretty compelling tourney.

The number of upsets creates a vibe that the matches can go either way.

Only one two-win team (France), so far. Spain could join in a few hours and Brazil tomorrow.
