That is why they need a G5 in a PB.
It says minimum 867 or faster for a powerpc g4. Isn't that what the powerbook has? Sooooo it should run. Just saying.

Actually I'm not very interested in these apps (it's not my line of work), but I am waiting for a G5 (or equivalent) PowerBook and if Apple is releasing apps that no longer support the current G4's then it can't be too long.Playback of HD DVDs authored in DVD Studio Pro 4 requires a PowerPC G5 processor
GregA said:DVD Standards
-Author traditional DVDs using SD assets
-Author HD DVDs using SD and HD assets
-Burn discs containing both an SD and an HD project
I guess that answers my wondering...?
Also:
DLT drive (required for DVD-9 projects)
Does apple have dual layer hardware yet?

Read my post on page 2 of this thread. Or,Calihafan said:DVD Studio Pro now supports HD DVD... now I don't know much about the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD battle, but is this HD DVD the same that Blu-Ray is competing with? Because Apple just joined the Blu-Ray consortium. I'm very confused.

I agree. I can't wait. My days and nights of transcoding m2t to DVCProHD will soon be over! This will also make printing to D-VHS and miniDV (HDV) tape much easier (for the purpose of saving master prints).Lacero said:FCP 5 finally goes native HDV! This is single-handedly the biggest new feature of FCP and way better support than iMovie, with its lousy transcoding to AIC. RT-Extreme also means you can edit HDV on lower-end Macs without it becoming frustrating.
Yeah, maybe two or three more years at the most. iBooks had G3s for a long time even after G4 only applications were out. I suppose people will say, "but PowerBooks are the pro line and they should be up to the task of running all the pro software." PowerBook G4s will still run DVDSP 4. They just won't be able to (according to the information cited) avail the HD authoring features, and (apparently) they won't be able to play back HD-DVD content.witness said:Actually I'm not very interested in these apps (it's not my line of work), but I am waiting for a G5 (or equivalent) PowerBook and if Apple is releasing apps that no longer support the current G4's then it can't be too long.
Thanks for the clarification.Avicdar said:DLT drive does not mean dual layer DVD drive. It means a DLT tape drive to enable you to take the DVD image (on tape) to a proper DVD replication facility.
Guess that is more relevant?Output Formats
- DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, Double-layer media
- Double-layer media support
I believe they are making one...Lacero said:Holy Cow! Is this the new Transformers movie? As a little kid, that was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons. I was always waiting for a live-action version!

Freescale do have an alternative to the hot G5's, and the new G5's are getting cooler, so it might not be so long. IBM, Freescale and Apple have had plenty of time to work on this.Rod Rod said:Yeah, maybe two or three more years at the most. iBooks had G3s for a long time even after G4 only applications were out. I certainly hope so.witness said:Freescale do have an alternative to the hot G5's, and the new G5's are getting cooler, so it might not be so long. IBM, Freescale and Apple have had plenty of time to work on this.
All Apple have been saying is that it would be difficult to get the current G5 desktop/server chip into a very small PowerBook, but they haven't said anything about using an alternative chip, which (in my opinion) is more likely.
