Upgrading to FCP Studio from FCP 3.0 Academic?

I am interested in upgrading to FCP Studio 5.0. The original disk I have is FCP 3.0 Academic. I had no problem upgrading to 4.0 but want to be sure I can use the upgrade version of FCP Studio. Has anyone upgraded from the Academic 3.0 version?
Thanks

Final Cut Studio Serial Number

Hi
I have a favor to ask of anyone here who is kind enough to help me out. I bought a copy of the Final Cut Studio, but i lost my serial number for it. My cleaning lady threw out the box and manuals. This is extremely frustrating because now my Studio is worthless without the serial number. I was hoping if anyone had a serial number they could give me or a generic one that will work for all copies. It would mean a great deal to me, so i won't have to buy a whole new copy and spend all that money. Thanks so much.

I don't know how Final Cut Studio is packaged or how the installation process works, but I really doubt if anyone on this forum would help you, since the policies of this website discourage and prohibit piracy of any kind. I'm not accusing you of anything, but sharing a license key is equivalent to piracy and members of MR may not do it. You may probably be better off calling Apple - if you have the purchase records (even your name, address, and phone might suffice), they should be able to help you out. After all, they have your money! :)

Well, w/the money you've saved by pirating programs one would think you could afford a better cleaning lady.

BTW, nice first and only post.

Just contact Apple directly. They will have your personal information on file, along with records, invoices, etc. of your purchase. They will be able to send you a new serial code, so no need to find one anywhere else.

Let us know how you make out.

Nice try, bud.

FYI, we're not THAT dumb...

That cleaning lady line was about a 1 out of 10 effort in originality.

better excuses than a cleaning lady

my dog ate my serial number.

I thought the serial was going to self destruct so I tossed it out my car.

I thought I was Lorena Bobbit so I tossed it out my car.

I forgot it. honest, it won't happen again.

the serial didn't work so I threw it away. then I figured out was because I was using a Cyrillic keyboard. why does Apple hate us Serbians? dammit.

You could always try:

Actually, the guy already responded back about a week ago, but the Mods removed his comment as it was somewhat insulting to the people who criticized his initial question. On the other hand, he thanked those who actually helped him and informed him that he should talk to Apple directly, which he did, and he received a new serial key direct from them - so his question was answered and his problem solved, no thanks to some of the people here... But this is old now, so let's just drop it...

I went from FCP 3 Academic to FCP4 full to Final Cut Studio with no problems. My retail FCP4 happily accepted my FCP3.0 Academic serial number.

Or so he claimed. :)

Agreed.

That's exactly what creativeczar said in the third sentence of the post you quoted. His/her question was whether FCP3 academic can be upgraded to FCP5 similarly to the FCP4 upgrade. Of course Apple states that it can't, but sometimes what Apple says isn't exactly accurate so it's worthwhile to either try oneself or ask others.

Fair enough, just giving him the benefit of the doubt. :)

Well put - I've run into this before myself. As a result, it's always good to confirm with other third-party sources, i.e. MacRumors members! ;)

It sounds like creativeczar wants to do exactly what I did, so I mentioned it. I went from 3 academic to 4 to 5 with no problems. creativeczar has gone from 3 to 4 and now wants to go to 5. That's what I did.

creativeczar said: "I had no problem upgrading to 4.0" so the 4.0 serial numbers are all that will be needed when the 5.0 install is performed. Worked fine for me.

Obviously you can't jump straight from version 3 to version 5, but that's not what was asked.

It seemed to me that's what was asked, but I appreciate your confirmation that going from 3 Academic to 4 (4.5) to 5 works. I too am in the same boat. :)
